    Thanks for the tips! Can’t wait for this crab season. It’s too bad the weather doesn’t look good for the opener.

      @@Fishing247 I forgot to ask you how much weight is your hoop. what’s a good amount of weight for our area to use so the crap pots do not walk away

    • @Fishing247
      @Fishing247  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My hoops is 14 pound. It is depends on how deep you drop. The deeper you drop the heavier weight your hoops should be. I will add weights if I drop over 100' to 200'. If I drop around 50 ft. My 14 pound hoops is good. However, on the strong current or big swells day, you .at need to add additional weights.

    3. TRANSIT PROVISION: In waters where groundfish species or species groups are closed to take or possession but authorized for take or possession in other areas, those species or species groups may be possessed aboard a vessel that is anchored, drifting, or transiting in or through that closed area. While anchored, drifting, or transiting through an area closed to take or possession of these groundfish species or species groups, no gear may be deployed other than for the take of crustaceans with hoop nets used pursuant to subsection 29.80(b), Dungeness crab traps used pursuant to subsection 29.80(c), and dip nets used pursuant to Section 28.80. (§29.80(b), §29.80(c), §28.80).

      @Fishing247  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your information and you are correct about transit provision. As long as you do not deploy Rockfish gear in the water while having Rockfish on your boat. I have already sent an email to DFG to clarify the regulations regarding ground fish and crabbing. I really appreciate for your times to research and provide useful information and clarification. Awesome.👍

    I am assuming if you can go the other way, meaning you can crab in deeper than 20 fathom waters first, then rockfish in less than 20?

    • @Fishing247
      @Fishing247  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. It is legal that way or just fishing and crabbing under 20 fathoms.

  • @STRIPERBAY408
    @STRIPERBAY408 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    So when the regs change in December back to fishing above 50 fathoms, we have to drop hoops above 50fathoms in order to obtain both limits of crab/rockfish….?

    • @Fishing247
      @Fishing247  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For December 2024, It will be over 50 fathoms for rockfish in December. I asked this question with Game Wardens 2 weeks ago and I was informed that you can drop hoops for crabs under 50 fathoms while having Rockfish on the boat but you can't not have any fishing line in the water less than 50 fathoms. I will confirm with Game Wardens again about your question. Thanks for your question. We will make sure we understand the regulations correctly to avoid tickets and enjoy our times on the water.

    i think you are wrong about not being able to pull your hoops in over 20 fathoms even if you have rockcod. Law says you cant take rockcod over 20 fathoms. doesnt say you cant possess or have them in transit.

    • @Fishing247
      @Fishing247  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are correct sir. I email game gardens and they confirm with me that you can drop hoops over 20 fathoms if you do not have line and hooks in the water. Thanks for watching and your comment.

      @@Fishing247 i know that there are folks thinking that they cant go pick up hoops after fishing and they are wasting time by sitting on their hoops first and then going into shallow water to get their rockcod and lings. You have good intentions to help people not get ticketed but the title of this video is misleading unless the reader goes through all of the comments and replies. Best of luck to you and be safe out there.

    YOUR HOOPS ARE ILLEGAL. REVIEW THE REGULATIONS ABOUT HEIGHT OF HOOPS, AND THE WIDTH OF THE RINGS. YOUR TOP HOOP APPEARS TO BE TOO HIGH AND TOO WIDE.
    CHECK YOUR REGULATIONS!!

      Thanks for watching brother. Sometimes looking is deceiving. I know about type B hoop net regulations. My hoops dimensions are as follows: bottom ring is 35", top ring is 18", and it is 9" tall. The type B hoop net regulations: bottom ring max is 36", top ring no less than 15" and no higher than 10". I appreciate for your time to watch my video and your comment.
