Muzio Clementi was an English composer ofltalian birth who settled in London in 1774. Here he made a successful career as a pianist and teacher. During a continental tour in the 1780s he stayed in Vienna for six months and took part in a famous piano contest with Mozart, who commented on his 'remarkable technique at the keyboard'. In 1798 Clementi established a business tl1at not only published music but manufactured pianos.
The sbc sonatinas of Clementi's Op. 36 have long been the most popular of his smaller and easier piano pieces. In this Vivace, the left hand has an accompanying role, whereas the right hand is full of life and vitality.

ABRSM’s recommended tempo for this piece is 60 bpm. The dynamics tend to change suddenly - from piano (soft) to forte (loud) and this needs to be kept in mind when practising.
A good legato (smooth) touch is generally best, with occasional staccato (detached) notes once in a while, as marked in the music. Be careful to play the right hand melody in such a way that it sings out above the left hand part. (which is just an accompaniment) There is always a risk of the left hand accompanying part overpowering the right hand melody in these types of pieces.
A steady tempo would be good to maintain throughout.

Don’t worry.. if you are finding it hard to play, maybe just work on separate hand parts a little more. Also when playing hands together together practice at a slower tempo than you usually do. Don’t feel under pressure to play it fast too soon! Good luck!
