Their R1 trucks and RS SUVs are great products. But Rivian Automotive is being over ambitious. They are hanging on a tight rope that is burning. Their Normal factory did not even make half of that 150,000 number. Their stocks have plummeted to $11 below the initial IPO price of $78, and consumer demands for EVs have slowed down; even giant Tesla is struggling. Rivian should wait until after their business becomes profitable, and that is not until after 3-4 years from 2024, to start such ambitious project. Their CASH FLOW is negative! What they should do is followed Tesla and buys cheaper old factory and cut costs.

I'm interested to see what Rivian will be building at this new site. I don't think the demand is there for the same 3 vehicles they are already building in Normal. Also, this is a battery plant too? Are they partnering with someone for their battery tech? Looking forward to hearing more about Rivian from you soon.
With many countries moving to ban new internal-combustion engine vehicle sales within the next decade, I think demand will rise dramatically. Also, having Amazon as you're largest shareholder (and customer) doesn't hurt. And yes, all news releases have outlined that this will be a battery plant as well. While SK Battery's plant is only about 50 miles away from this site, initial reports have been suggesting that Rivian will continue to use Samsung batteries like it currently does in Illinois. Too soon IMO, their debt ratio is out of control with little income. They need to focus on maximizing production in their current facility as 200 cars per week (9,600/year) is not going to make them successful. Once they are creating over 100K vehicles at a minimum, then they should look to build another factory. As an investor and order holder, it's all very exciting, but the demand isn't all that yet and I'd like to see them work on infrastructure (charging network and showroom/dealership). This is all far more important at this point. Time will tell...
All really great points. When Tesla built its first Gigafactory in Nevada in 2014 it already had $3.2 Billion in annual sales. That being said, it only had just under 17,000 sales that same year. My feeling is that Rivian felt this was a safe move given the massive backing from Amazon. Thanks for watching!

Impressive. Rivian is definitely preparing for the inevitable mass adoption of EVs.
They should hold off construction of second plant until they generate enough revenue to sustain capital expenditures...otherwise a bad financial planning...
Building a 2nd factory is certainly ambitious when they’re years from coming close to breaking even.

GA tax payers are literally paying for this failing company. Hopefully voters will wake up to see Kemp’s new failure.
All about shady backroom deals a $$$payoffs. Some have gotten multi million payouts and bought waterfront mansions for nothing but a hayfield and a worn out old house.
Necessary move, but they will need to secure more funding since they will not be profitable for at least another 5 years.

This place will be massive. Right now the area is still just woods. Ground breaking is scheduled for this Spring. Still a few more hoops to jump through then ground breaking will begin.
Based on current plans, this is going to be absolutely huge. Can’t wait to see it finished. I’m always interested to see how closely the final product matches initial plans.
@@trailblazedHQ this is 15 minutes from my house. I live in Madison and Rutledge is next town over. JDA development is over it. Facebook is already building 5 data centers in Stanton Springs area. This is just across I-20 on the North End of Stanton Springs/JDA location.
@@Matrix9381 Thats got to be great for the local economy! What is the local feel for all of this rural development? Media seems to indicate a lot of opposition- is that what you’re seeing?
@@trailblazedHQ definitely. They feel like the deal was done before anything was made public. Lots of people's land and homes they grew up in being bought out and having to move. Lot of concerns about infrastructure, environment etc. Me personally, I'm excited. But I don't speak for everyone, and vice-versa. It's in a county with a major interstate East-West. Major highway North-South. 3 different railroad companies in area. So it makes sense. Growth in this area is going to happen one way or another.

Fair point - at least it's not Lucid who (with 300 deliveries to date) just announced a new manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia.
They need to get fast into cheaper sedans and crossovers.
They failed to tell future buyers where to charge when travelling more than 300 miles...
why would you need 20 million square feet? That much floor space will have to pay for itself! Tesla doesn't even use all what it has!
Gives them room to grow without the need for additional land purchase. As we've seen already though, Rivian is burning through cash at an astonishing pace. It will be interesting to see how they utilize the new factory when it's built.

Rivian is investing $zero. The governor of Georgia is giving them everything. No taxes, no infrastructure spending, free prime farmland to concrete over while bypassing all zoning and environmental regs. They will contribute nothing but destruction and misery to generational farmers and good people who want to raise families in rural communities, not RJ's slums

Earlier public engagement would have been better, since it ended up being sneaky, underhanded backroom deals that is certain to destroy the small towns and agricultural region. No environmental or community impact studies have been done. The developers paid themselves 10x the fair market value of their own land, skipped town as multi millionaires for a few hay fields, and billed taxpayers and neighbors in the form of government incentives
@@flowergirl72345 I am in Normal IL and Rivian has brought a boom unlike any other to the area.
Home owners have seen a substantial increase in property value. All of this in the wake of the big events of the previous two years.
Jobs have flooded into the area in which the pressure has increased everyone's starting wages.
I'm certain there is probably some bad going on but the good is so immense around here it is impossible not to focus on.
Issue is that a lot of rural folks dont want boom they want quiet. It may seem far fetched but people do vote against improving their rural areas QOL just to keep it cheap to live there.
