Your going back through the archives and we are liking it. Some classic places and some certainly not managed places. Thanks Amacf

Love these engines with their side tanks and tiny coal hopper! Hopefully they preserved a few. Liked the juxtaposition of the modern electric train above the steam near the end! Gracias!👍✌️😊🙏🏼🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂

Both these lines still operate (at least part of them) as tourist lines. Some of the locomotives are preserved now ....... Andy

Amazing that this line and its steam engines were still run by DB AG (they even applied their logos) until 2000! Were there other lines in East Germany that still used steam trains after reunification under DB AG?

There were quite a lot of steam operated narrow gauge lines that past into DB ownership. As far as I know all are still operating privately (but with reduced track mileage in some cases) ... Andy

hihowdi. interesting archival footage . im courious with the bells on the german locs. was that an add on after ww2 or did the locs come that way. as i remember its mostly that north american and some other places had bells on their locs. thanks .

I'm not 100% certain Allan. I would guess the locos featured were built with the bell but I'm certain these are not the original locos working the line. The ones featured were probably built in the 1930's. The lines are older than that. It's probable that there had been problems at the road crossings in the past ........ Andy

The bells are mounted for regulation purposes. In theory, every locomotive can have a bell, but they are only required for shunters and local traffic. So they are rare to nonexistent on a 01.10, common on a 50, and always present on narrow gauge locomotives.
For the signage: at 7:26 you have a required whistle spot (double P), the spot where you hear the locomotive bell has a 'L' sign.

The gauge is actually 75 centimetres not 50. I am not aware of any problems with this. ....... Andy
