    Your talk of being surprised about the eye tracking capabilities and using eyes as a control source was really interesting. It reminded me a lot of the hearthstone streamer "No Hands Gamer". He uses that moniker because he uses eye-tracking in combination with a foot pedal to play the game. He's said that his "actions per minute", or APM, is potentially several times faster than the average player. So it is really interesting to me to hear it confirmed just how intuitive and efficient that way of controlling technology has become.

    Have either of you tried out the HoloLens 2? It seems like the product most similar to this based on what you talked about, and I wouldn't say that it's at a level to be a solid consumer product. I'm curious to see how they compare since I've tried the HoloLens and want to know how the Vision Pro may improve on that tech. Overall these types of headsets are difficult to judge until you actually put one on and try it.
    The $3.5k price point is unsurprising based on what the tech is, but marketing it towards consumers at that level is very strange. The HoloLens was trying to go for an industrial/enterprise market which makes the price easier to swallow there, but it didn't really take off. I guess you gotta start somewhere though.

    • @TwistedShrapnel

From what I can tell, the Vision Pro is trying to primarily be an AR device with some VR. In the VR areas, then yeah it's probably closer to the XR-3. But in the AR space, as well as other things like form factor, I'd say it's closer to the HoloLens.

The mixing of the real and fake, the necessity of having cameras to capture everything to translate it, the potential misuses, I really cannot see myself ever using it, and honestly, something as pervasive as 'AR Glasses' (not goggles-something people walk around in their day to day lives with) is a societal level deal breaker for me. Still can't see the mass market appeal for VR. I own a Vive Pro, it's great, I don't see normal people using VR as a "screen replacer". It's too expensive, too uncomfortable and you're looking too ridiculous.
    I see a lot of people compare it to the iPhone, where apple also came late but popularized the concept of Smartphones as a whole. And I don't think that comparison is really applicable. A smartphone isn't really an involved device, 90% of the time it lives in your pocket and you don't think about it and even while your using it, you only need to raise your head and you're able to focus on something else. That's the kind of tech normal people buy, not a giant, cumbersome set of goggles that totally immerse you into whatever you're doing.

    • @newmantopia
      @newmantopia ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A better comparison would be to the Macintosh, which brought a transformational form of computing to the masses, despite being expensive and comparatively large.
      The first iPhone didn't take video, send sms, utilize 3G, copy/paste, possess a front-facing camera, or many other things expected of smartphones at the time. Over time its form and function rapidly advanced to make it an appealing device for most people. Clearly the same will happen here.

    I understand that this is a luxury and first generation product but it seems so massively out of touch for Apple to launch a new product for such an eye watering price in a global cost of living crisis. Particularly with it being marketed to individuals and not marketed towards primarily businesses (Like the Mac Pros).
    Cool tech is cool, but mocking people by waving cool tech with an intentionally inaccessible price tag to 99% of the world is plain gross.

    • @Whoopsie00
      @Whoopsie00 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ErrorWays I agree, but I think that's kind of a moot point. It's not about the technology, it's about the price and the marketing.
      There's absolutely no way that Apples cost of materials is $3500 per device. I know they need to recoup the R&D too, but the lower the price, the more you can sell, the less the R&D costs are per device etc. So they've just artificially set it at a way-too-high price to maintain the perception as being the fancy option and rake in money, and if you can't afford it "oh too bad make more money". I have no issue with them offering this as a high end device if they had a lower end one at a more accessible price, for actual humans, or if they were marketing it towards industry professionals/businesses. Either resolves it.
