From a random guy who was on a SWAT Team for 6 years, thank you Andy for having these guys on to tell our side of the job. Most people never get to hear it and knowing your platform reaches so many people gives us hope that there are still people out here who want to hear our voices. Some of us are tired of being Martyrs!
Let me bust your door down in the middle of the night and come at you armed. They knew they already had the suspect locked up but since the boyfriend had lived there at one time or stayed the night there or used the address they called it a point of interest. They lied on report saying that the saw mail being delivered there that had drugs in it which was denied by the post office. They got rid of their camera one of the officers had the camera mount on his vest but no cam the cam vanished and nobody sought to inquire where the equipment was. This cop is dirty. He wants you to look by what he did when he knows he unjustly took someone's life. Look i have nothing against NO KNOCK warrants when they are followed by proper investigations i.e eyes on the residence, the no knock can be disengaged due to children or other person's on the scene, proper time to evacuate the surrounding area... what these cops are doing in that city is dangerous with no regard for public safety.
@BuddyHandsome Listen to this guy try and justify what he did. EVERY NON RACIST can see this man is dead wrong but him. They had him locked up in the jail and decided to raid every where he had been including her apartment. they lied and said they had proof that drugs were delivered there and it was flat out denied by the post office. REALITY IS they decided to raid her place because he once lived there...that is all. The idea he is making this shit up in his mind is f up. This person has not integrity. Not in the footage of the officers one of them had a body cam on that disappeared he had the mount for one but no cam and NOBODY questioned where the camera was. We have problem with policing in America of all places they will not stick to procedure or policy.
So glad I listened to this. I had it all wrong listening to the idiotic media. You did everything right and I am grateful for police like you. Thanks Andy for having this incredible man on. I will 100% buy the book. Well done Gents!!
As a 26 year retired Alaska State Trooper, this guy is right on target. I really enjoyed listening to him, and found my self going, yes yes yes, right on.
Amen. We have a awesome Sheriff here that gives out carry permits to anyone legally eligible. Openly saidif the Feds come for nefarious purposes she will have them escorted out. And I'm in California..lol Now i just found out she's retiring.. 🤬🤬
Thanks for this episode Andy. For me it’s always important to hear all sides. I don’t know if Mr. Mattingly will see this comment but I would like to thank him for his service as a police officer. Those guys get a lot of crap from the media and people who don’t understand what it takes to do the job on a daily basis. I’ve always tried to live an honorable life and set a good example for people that come from communities like mine. I left the Army after my second contract and I am now pursuing a federal LEO career. I know it won’t easy but I will give it my best.
Man I am from the area and remember all of the accusations and the protests(riots) due to this. Awesome to get some first hand insight. Thanks Andy for getting him on here.
Excellent episode. From the beginning I was expecting a convoluted mess similar to the guy that got “kicked out” of devgru. That was not the case at all, he articulated his side of the story clearly and with context as well. Thanks Andy for another great guest!
@@budgibson185 I’m a cop and no one lays it out for me. You have to go to court and battle dickhead defense attorneys over every little detail so you eventually just learn to be excruciatingly articulate to seal up any potential gaps

I followed John's story from first hearing about the case on Officer Tatum's channel. This was a very good idea, to be on a long form podcast like this. Because this format let's people really get a feel for who you are as a person. You didn't dodge any questions, and you come across as truly genuine. Wish you all the best with the book, John. All you guys involved in that tragedy are the personification of getting screwed with your pants on.
I’m a former major crimes prosecutor in the Louisville Metro area. Everything this guy is saying is 100% true and accurate. I also quit because of this shit. And, what he says the public isn’t told, he is 100% telling the truth. The news in our area hasn’t reported 99% of this even though it’s a Pulitzer winning story if they did.
I live here too and for some reason the local media don't want to report facts. With the people in power in Louisville unfortunately I don't see things getting better
Andy this is an amazing podcast, I’m in the uk but this story just blows my mind! Thank god there’s a platform for these guys to tell their version of event’s. Thank you can’t wait for the next podcast 🤘🏽
Great interview. It's refreshing to actually hear the truth from someone that had boots on the ground. I'll be donating to the Wounded Blue. Sounds like a great organization.
I can, that’s why I turned that shit off long ago. You can be informed and not watch the news. You’ll actually be far better informed and less irritated.
CNN is currently bordering on old school soviet union communist propaganda. I remember respecting them like 20 years ago but they've traded their integrity for money and clickbait.
Andy, love the podcasts and TH-cam video that goes with it. Blown away by some of the experience and ideas discussed with Mike Glover. Well spoken, intelligent, and both have a sense of humor! I believe there is a correlation between sense of humor, intelligence, and handling stress/difficult situations.
@Labhrás O'Dochartaigh You don't suppose there's a law against letting a known drug dealer use your house? When you hang out with criminals, the likelihood that something bad will happen to you increases. That's a choice you make.
@Labhrás O'Dochartaigh I haven't done much research on this case honestly. My comment was about showing appreciation for the police, not about the specifics of this case. With the political climate at that time, I'd think if there was any evidence to the contrary, they certainly would've used it to prosecute this officer..
You're a legend Andy for giving this good fella a platform to give a first hand account of the events that unfolded. It blows my mind that objectivity is being completely lost to subjectivity. How a spade is not a spade, nor is a good human being a good human being anymore, is a sad reality of living in 2022. Keep charging mate, much respect from NZ!
People are a fan of no-knock/no-announce warrants until the police make a mistake, go to the wrong house, ram your door open before shooting your dog. You wake up hearing gunshots, reflexively grab your nightstand gun and they dump their mags into you too. Hopefully none of the "accurate fire" goes through any walls and hits anyone else, like your children. God knows their yearly 25 yard quals don't make for very accurate fire.
Firstly Andy ... well done for getting this guy on and giving him a platform to be able to get some details/facts on the table. Secondly ... I see *CYA* all the way through this case. As I have said before ... I moved to India close to 12 years back as I could not live in England anymore after seeing what it had become (it is a LOT worse now). And I see the volume of people leaving certain states and even the US entirely ... you can join the dots from there. This whole "cops are bad" agenda has been brewing for a while but the last 2 x years have allowed it to burst it's banks and flood out of control. I’ve applied to become a police officer three times in my once quiet & peaceful, but now busy & suburban Texas hometown. They don’t want me. My DD214 isn’t good enough, and I don’t have enough college credits for them. Yet I’m 6’3, a very fit endurance athlete, and have a squeaky clean legal record. Not even a single speeding ticket. I had recently talked to a random mustached man at a local track who turned out to be a detective LEO in the nearby big city. He tried to convince me to apply there, but then went on to tell me that if anything even somewhat-questionable happened with me involved, then the city essentially wouldn’t have my back.
I grew up in a poor working class drug infested dump. All of these dudes, that push heavy drugs like heroin or crack, use girls and their houses. They keep their drugs and or money there, and sometimes they sell out of the house, they will have the girls drive them around or deliver for them, buy them guns. This is extremely common. Usually they will have a couple girls, which means a couple spots.
I’ve never met this man and work for a different larger city doing a similar job and sadly this story sounds parallel to things I have experienced and witnessed. In terms of comparison, everything he talked about was true. It’s funny that what one witnesses as part of a situation and how it is reported in the media, are many times different stories I.e. lies
Amongst the many things I would like to say, I have to say something.. how is it that it is acceptable for this former officer’s loved ones to be attacked and targeted and harassed, as if they were in any way, part of his decision making that day (which as a former narc detective I know you did not deserve this situation to go as it did) but, we don’t pay attention to the fact that Brianna was part of an illegal narcotics enterprise… she knew she was involved in an illegal hurtful game, and it goes along with common sense that she was in some way benefiting from it… we should as a community hold those who enable the drug dealers or any other habitual criminal as it applies to this, to be held responsible and accountable. Furthermore, any one providing misinformation and lies to the public should be criminally charged.
Ironically after 23 years with an agency, I was just having this conversation with a supervisor today about how we can try to affect change to stop getting political puppets in Leadership Roles.
Great podcast. Learned a lot. Amazing how people from his own department and city lied after knowing the facts. He may want to change the logo on his shirt. I believe that is trademarked.
Back the Blue Any vets know from seeing badge cams that cops routinely deal with tactical nightmares, I would rather clear kalat mud brick houses than the modern western domicile any day of the week. Respect.
@Labhrás O'Dochartaigh that's a terrible generalization. I live in small town USA and the cops are the same dudes we go hunting and shooting with, do jiu jitsu with, and they are the same ones helping the community because they are part of the community. They aren't giving out frivolous tickets and harassing people for no reason. Their first question is generally "what can I do to help". I lived close to a young couple who were hopelessly strung out on meth. Instead of throwing them in jail, they did all they could to try and talk sense into them and help them. I had seen them drop off food and supplies and toys for their kids during Christmas. Unfortunately, using turned into dealing, as it often does, and the state got involved
@Labhrás O'Dochartaigh I don't have heros because man is deeply flawed. I admire some people for their determination and will to accomplish their dreams....if they were able to do it without compromising their morality.
Those city officials let the city burn they threw people under the bus.. hero’s under the bus and they should all be investigated anybody who is a city official or related to one that buys property in downtown Louisville should go to jail for fucking life ….set an example
Great story. I hope he stays positive and strong. He has a good message. Anyone halfway intelligent, looking for a career will run fast from law enforcement! You can't change idiots in government. I once thought you could...if your cause is righteous and honest......wrong! Advice to active law enforcement...find a new job a s a p. Everyone will turn on you so they can look good when the cards are down.
I lived in Jacksonville, Fl from 2007-2017. The City Limits is the Duval County Line. There is NO Jacksonville PD. There is only the Jacksonville Sheriffs Dpt. Some of the communities like Jacksonville Beach that was within Duval County had a small PD. But by and large Jacksonville Sheriffs Dpt was it. It was the same for the surrounding counties Clay, Nassau, Baker, but not sure about Flagler County.... It gave Deputies the flexibility to deal with a wide range of issues. From parking tickets to serving warrants and SWAT stuff. Within Duval County there was rural farm and forest lands, hard core inner city stuff, and fancy beach communities.
I don't understand no I do how this isn't mandatory watching on national level is a crime this is such a good interview andy is an amazing interviewer and this story is so sad that so much was political and race baiting amazing interview
Notice how much cooler and less arrogant this cop is compared to the one who was on last week. Difference between a southern street cop and a big city California cop. You can tell this guy is 100x more likeable and has the right mindset for the job.
How was he arrogant if you don’t mind me asking? I thought he was quite humble, they tried to make an example out of him and he fought to clear his name.
@@denissgoc Has nothing to do with his case. His attitude was just lame. He was extremely dry to listen to and tried to act too cool for school not laughing at Andys hilarious jokes. He just had a BIG D0UCHÊ ENERGY.
Great interview. However, I disagree. I was 21/22 when I started, and did 28 yrs. Age has nothing to do with ability to do the job. Character and training are key. I had 3 OISs and if any of those had happened today it would be a different outcome.

how is it that it is acceptable for this former officer’s loved ones to be attacked and targeted and harassed, as if they were in any way, part of his decision making that day (which as a former narc detective I know you did not deserve this situation to go as it did) but, we don’t pay attention to the fact that Brianna was part of an illegal narcotics enterprise… she knew she was involved in an illegal hurtful game, and it goes along with common sense that she was in some way benefiting from it… we should as a community hold those who enable the drug dealers or any other habitual criminal as it applies to this, to be held responsible and accountable. Furthermore, any one providing misinformation and lies to the public should be criminally charged.

Love these types of episodes!
Need to continually fight back and never rest
Ironically after 23 years with an agency, I was just having this conversation with a supervisor today about how we can try to affect change to stop getting political puppets in Leadership Roles.
Great podcast!
Have a good day and a great week everyone. Stay safe y'all
Great podcast. Learned a lot. Amazing how people from his own department and city lied after knowing the facts. He may want to change the logo on his shirt. I believe that is trademarked.
That's a democrat run city for you. I unfortunately live here and it's terrible how police are treated here even when they catch the bad guys
Back the Blue
Any vets know from seeing badge cams that cops routinely deal with tactical nightmares, I would rather clear kalat mud brick houses than the modern western domicile any day of the week. Respect.
Except for the whole IED adpect....
@Labhrás O'Dochartaigh lmao 🤣 you are a joke! I live in Louisville and he is spot on how it is here
51:54 hand to God one of my battalion commanders in the Army was a Lt. Colonel Sanders. Fantastic officer actually
Great episode!
Fuck yes!!!
Respect to dudes a gals who gave a faQ
Corruption aside what you do matters to us
How can i get involved in wounded blue...very worthy cause.
Great interview and thanks for telling the more complete story than the media's.
Edit: Glad to hear about Brent today 3/3/22
Great interview 👍
I like this guy.
Those city officials let the city burn they threw people under the bus.. hero’s under the bus and they should all be investigated anybody who is a city official or related to one that buys property in downtown Louisville should go to jail for fucking life ….set an example
Thank you for your podcast Andy. Always well balanced and Logic based.
Just think how things would be if people in charge just said the facts and did not try to spin the situation.
2:05:47 John should start a fund for small business owners who lost their businesses because of the riots.
Happy monday everybody! Hope its a kickass week for you!
I'm only here to point out Andy's Starbucks water cup. Good interview though.
I’ll own a Cleared Hot one when they come back in stock! Lol
That's a latte my guy.
Black kid in Florida stand your ground shooting i believe was named trayvon Martin...really enjoy your vlogs andy. Thanks for sharing
Just listened to both after reading your comment. I think your biases are showing Jesus, and that scares me. Aren't you supposed to be all knowing?!?
@@RunningNewcomer He seemed more nervous than anything. You could tell he had anxiety of some sort.
Just a periodic reminder that Kyle is a hero
Another example of why the "war on drug's" is pointless. Making something that's profitable illegal just makes a lucrative black market.
Louis Ville?
Looavull
Yeah that made me cringe. I'll allow a Louie-ville, but Louis Ville made me cringe. But we all know its pronounced Looavull.
The Florida case was George Zimmerman, Trayvon Martin.
The other difference is dept size. I am from a large so cal dept.
🏆
Good cop.
Wow that 2 hr 39 mns flew by
lets get Slade on here bro.
Hoo Rah!
Sorry Andy Pipefitters is already taken. Lol. That’s my trade, Union Pipefitter, Local 110, Norfolk, Virginia.
Great interview. However, I disagree. I was 21/22 when I started, and did 28 yrs. Age has nothing to do with ability to do the job. Character and training are key. I had 3 OISs and if any of those had happened today it would be a different outcome.
There is a distinct difference between civil police and the military we have to stop conflating the two things. There not the same period
None of the officers were wearing body cameras. Was this ever discussed in the interview? It may have been but I do not remember it coming up.
Narcotics officers don't usually wear body cams
this episode is zoomed in to 5x
Curious how many mistakes cops make that have led to charges of citizens.
What does your comment have to do with this podcast? Your comment is why this had to be done
@@sandyb2379 he talked about mistakes on warrants.
@@lavamazda05 what mistakes? I listened to the whole podcast did you?
@@sandyb2379 I did. This was over a week ago so I can’t remember at what part he does lol, but he does.
How about insurance for police officers wounded and otherwise, on duty.
Crazy to think cops have the strongest Union in the world lol .
Great podcast with the source coming straight from the horse's mouth!
