  • Jon and Justin revisit the first episode they ever recorded together, “The Dark Side of Christianity.” If we are going to live honest and helpful lives in the church, we have to acknowledge that things often feel dark. Where does this darkness come from? It comes from the corruption of our flesh, and it comes from the work of the evil one. The guys talk about both in this episode.
    Semper Reformanda: Jon and Justin go a little bit deeper into the realities of the demonic realm and spiritual warfare.

    I would really love to hear you guys do an episode on division in the church, especially when it comes to a lot of christian truth seekers on TH-camrs that seem to be largely Baptist or Jon Mcarther fans. While they sometimes raise valid points, I feel like its morphed into a christian cancel culture as of late as if any teacher, pastor or leader that makes a mistake or might be off on some teaching are their labeled a heritic and now nothing they say or teach can be trusted.

    Have either of you ever witnessed a person being set free from a demon? Seems like Spiritual Warfare is a common topic, but most folks shy away from the Mark 16:15-18 aspect of the Gospel. I would say that I am fairly reformed in my understanding of Salvation, but I do believe, and see, Mark 16 signs at the small country church I pastor weekly. And yes, my family is constantly under the attack of darkness.

    Romans six tells us that our old man is dead and Paul tells us that IF we si there is an advocate. If we say that we are sinners, guess what, there will be sin. If we say we are new in Christ and that we have all of the fruits of the Spirit, there is freedom and renewal. Dan Mohler is the expert.

      So when Jesus said _Go, and sin no more,_ you believe he had his fingers crossed behind his back?
      By the way, you misquoted Paul, who didn't utter the passage you loosely paraphrased, that was the Apostle John. Paul did say, however, that whatsoever is not of faith is sin.
      Those who continue to walk in the lusts of the flesh rather than in the power of the Holy Spirit are deceived.

      @@PETERJOHN101I am wondering if you could elaborate on your comment. My impression is that you are implying that anyone sinning cannot be a Christian. The passage you quoted isn't implying that you will not sin. As it states in

      As you stated, we have an advocate in Christ. But it goes on to say the verse you said as evidence that you are in Christ. The way I understand this, and I think the heart of what @theocast is try to show, it isn't that I do his commands, so I am a Christian. Theonomy is perhaps stewardship scaled. Do we make sure to eat right, workout, raise families, build houses, churches, schools, hospitals, businesses. We are all called to be ministers in that we display God's marvelous grace as we workout those gifts he has given.

    • @DaveTheAmerican
      @DaveTheAmerican ปีที่แล้ว +9

      In Theocast’s defense, theonomy is not outlined or prescribed in Scripture. Jesus taught that the world oils become more and more evil until his return. He declared that He had overcome the world and that believers would always be a persecuted minority. When Pilate asked about Jesus’ kingship, here is how He responded: ““My kingdom is not of this world,” said Jesus. “If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.”” John‬ ‭18‬:‭36‬ ‭CSB‬‬
      Theonomy stands in opposition to the view of the world Jesus has. Theonomy teaches that men can progressively make nations and perhaps the entire world operate under a Christian government. Salvation does not come this way. We are called in Matthew 28:18 to make disciples, which is a one-on-one process. We just don’t have a Biblical model for forcing people to adhere to a Christian system of laws. It’s the Holy Spirit who causes us to change and to walk a Godly path.
      Since the principles of theonomy prioritize political supremacy over evangelism, I have a hard time seeing it coming from anywhere but Satan. In Matthew 4, Satan offered Jesus everything theonomy offers us now - worldly fulfillment, spiritual supremacy, and earthly dominion. Meanwhile, God tells us it to store up treasures here, where it’s temporary and passing away.
      That’s my take. God bless you bro.

    • @DaveTheAmerican
      @DaveTheAmerican ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@themanincharge6418 I agree that Christians today have a fascination with calling things satanic these days, but theonomy specifically seems directly out of Satan’s playbook. It de-emphasizes individual evangelism, which is what we are called to do upon salvation. Theonomy promises us a world where we can have peace because everyone accepts laws based on the Bible. That just doesn’t square with what Jesus revealed to us.
      In my military time, I got to go to several Muslim countries where the human leaders led by their perspective of God’s laws. In every case, it leads to abuse, control, manipulation, and greater unrighteousness. They vie for political control to impose their take on their scriptures.
      Revelation tells us there will be war and chaos leading up to the triumphant return of Christ, who will defeat Satan and bring peace. Christ alone is worthy and qualified to lead us into peace. You can look to the Vatican if you want to see how corrupted the world becomes when flawed, sinful men. It’s not our job to make the world ready to receive Christ. We need to be busy sharing the gospel and making disciples, not trying to shape governments to make people act like Christians. Know what I mean?

      @@themanincharge6418 I hear you, bro. I can respect your caution in calling something satanic, but I think we all must be willing to draw a line and take a stand against what the Bible calls doctrines of demons. If we are unwilling to do so, the greater risk is being silent when believers or prospective believes are being led astray by the Devil. Thanks for the thoughtful and civil discourse. It’s a refreshing thing in these TH-cam streets. 😄✊🏽

      God's foreknowledge does not preclude free will. My son may react exactly as I foreknow under various conditions, that does not mean I wanted him to behave in that manner. Your Gnostic teaching is a vain philosophy that makes God the author of sin and suggests that life is little more than a behavioral algorithm.
      Paul himself affirmed that we are to obey God's law in Romans 3:31 and Galatians 5:19-21, so you obviously make choices regarding your actions and those choices are yours and no one else's.

      So what does it mean to be a Christian? According to the Apostle John, those who violate the commandments are outside the faith. Can they be regenerated through repentance? Of course. Can someone who has fallen away be restored? Of course. It's a question of the individual's genuine desire to know and obey the Gospel.
      The Reformed teachers claim that good fruit is always produced by believers, however Jesus contradicts this clearly in John's Gospel. "Any branch *_in me_* that does not bear fruit, the Father discards." (John 15:2)
      The parable of the talents in Matthew 25 also contradicts this. It was the servant who said, "Lord, I knew you would reap where you did not sow," and was empty handed at his Master's return, that was condemned.
      It is possible for believers to be apathetic and to fall away. This channel is contributing greatly to the lukewarm theology of the modern apostate Church.

      @@PETERJOHN101 I do not agree with your analysis. I pray that God will show you the true nature of his mercy and grace. While your response is heavy on your works, I read from the Bible that none seek after God (Romans 3:9-12) and that all are sinners (Romans 3:23), his propitiation is received by faith, not works (Romans 3:25, 27) and we are saved by grace through faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-9), and that all that God calls will come and never be cast away (John 6:37, 10:28-29). Don't get me wrong, works come as a result of salvation and it is the evidence of (James 2:18), but what you are arguing for is backwards. We don't obey his commands so that we can prove we are saved. We obey his commands because we are saved. The motive for obedience was not to be out of compulsion, but gratitude. If that is "lukewarm theology" to you, I will take it any day over a theology that paints a picture of my Lord and Savior as a tyrant who isn't concerned about my struggles with my sin nature.
