    =====================
    Not all crude oil is alike. There are three primary qualities that differentiate one oil from another: Weight (API Gravity), Sweetness (Sulfur Content), and TAN count (Total Acid Number). While the ideal oil is light and sweet, there are over 100 different crude oils traded on the market today, including the benchmark crude oils of OPEC, WTI, and BRENT.

    I feel bad for QC/QA employees in the petroleum industry that have to taste the oil to see if it is sweet or sour. 😢

    Interesting. I had never heard of TAN count. I worked at an oil refinery in Louisiana for four years back in the 1980s. It processed heavy sour crude, so it probably had a pretty high TAN count.

    • @KimrayInc
      @KimrayInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Canadian oils are heavy, some are as low as API gravity 8.5. Injecting steam and hydrocarbons is sometimes needed to produce these extra heavy oils.

    • @KimrayInc
      @KimrayInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, you can. Typically different gravity oils will be mixed together or hydrocarbons will be added before transport or processing to create more efficiency.

    We know the boiling point of natural gas is -162°C, the question is what happens to natural gas if u heat it above that value?

    • @daslavas6271
      @daslavas6271 ปีที่แล้ว

      the boiling point is where the phase change occurs from liquid to gaz, in ambient temperature gaz is already above its boiling point (no need to heat it)

    In the video says that 39.7 API considered as heavier oil. but in the end of the video WTI 39.7 considered as light crude oil. PLease,explain, im confused.

    • @KimrayInc
      @KimrayInc  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      That does make sense that it sounds confusing. For the oil samples that we first show, the heaviest sample is 39.7 API, so it was on the "heavier" side compared to our 70 API sample. It isn't truly "heavy", but it was compared to the other samples. In the larger picture of crude oil density, 39.6 is on the "lighter" side of the spectrum. So, while the first image made it look like 39.7 was heavy, it was just in comparison to the other samples in that image.

    • @user-bm6xr9gl5o
      @user-bm6xr9gl5o 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@KimrayInc oooooh, thank you. So it means different oils have different density and that is why for some 39.6 is heavy, and for some it is light? am i understand you right?

    • @GeovaniLopesDias
      @GeovaniLopesDias 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @user-bm6xr9gl5o I think is all about perspective. Something is taller only compared to other thing. So, an oil is heavy in some context due to what is it being compared to. He is heavy if its index is greater than the others. It can, I suppose, be heavy in a context of application. In general, a oil couldn't not be particularly heavy, but it is if you desired to produce some good in particular, such as petrol, which is more abundant in light oils.
