If you build a trundle drawer for your recovery gear, remember that chassis rails flex. Make sure you can unbolt the end of it, or you might not be able to get your gear out when you most need it.

Just put a deposit on my uncles d22 nav which I’m getting in a few months. I’m 16 and can’t wait to start building, but on a budget. Getting winch bar and winch. 2 inch lift and eventually a diff locker. I’ve been looking at the evc throttle controllers in the hopes of saving money on diesel when city driving and helping to tackle the tricky tracks out the local bush. Love the videos you guys put out and they have inspired me to do such a build. Every time I watch one of your videos I get more excited to build my own rig.

Building a recently purchased ‘07 Rodeo or as she’s known now the Canyonairo! I bought it because of Graham and I couldn’t afford an Isuzu so I got the sleeper version! She was owned by a caravan bloke who went solo on his adventures and was a little easy on the right foot but now she needs to have some fuel and fun pumped through her so if you feel like giving her a throttle controller I’ll get into the vic high country and do it like Graham! Cheers boys, keep it up!

As a younger man, putting big tires on my rig was always the first step, typically resulting in an under powered vehicle. A few decades later, I typically start with gearing and lockers before suspension and tires. Love watching you builds and the contrast you two bring to the video, with one in a mostly stock vehicle and the other in a super custom.

Just started building our 200 series so we can do a trip next year after our wedding. Currently only got a draw setup, snorkel and torqit exhaust but plans are lift, wheels, 12 volt system, breathers, roof platform, bull bar, rear bar, remap and a few other things. Working progress and installing all my self so I learn as much as I can along that way. Loving it boys and thanks for always having cracking videos.

I am busy building a Ford Ranger 2016 model at I got from my dad when he passed away last year. So far I only put on bigger tires and a EVC throttle controller and this has has already made a great difference. Already have a canopy on the back and I'm working on the drawer system myself and buying bits and pieces of the dual battery setup so that that can go in as soon as the drawer system is done. Really loving this rig at the moment and I'm busy packing now for another adventure this weekend.

I've picked up a 100 series landcruiser and trying to build it up a bit so we can create some memories for us all and to teach them about the mechanics of building your own truck.i had a 2" lift put in it 6 months ago and the supplier didn't put in a diff drop kit and my power steering rack blew out , torn the cv boots. I bought my first 4wd (2003 120 Prado Grande) in December 2021 to be used as a tourer for a big lap this year as a sort of Uni Graduation present to my partner and I.
We started with a rooftop tent, awning, shower awning, Kickass hot water system, solar, dual battery in a battery box and some lights.
After being in the High Country for a week and having a crap storage solution - a pair of drawers, I've started building my own rear setup to be more ergonomic.
I now have a cage with a water bladder between it and the middle row seats. Next to the drawers is a cooker and utensils slide and ontop a diy fridge slide. Next to the fridge sits the battery with all the wiring tucked away in the wing.
On the other side of the drawers, on the wing, sits the hot water system and retractable hose reel and water pump. I can now pump water into the tank from anyway (even a fresh water creek as it has a filtration system), or out of it for drinking, showering and cooking.
Rear coil springs are on the way to do away with the factory airbag suspension.
I'm waiting to see if I'd like to do a lift or not, and a winch based on a couple of our next trips planned to the Great Ocean road, The Flinders Ranges, and Uluru.
Alot of the videos you guys have made convinced me to slow down and take my time with the build, especially since 💰 is a concern being 22.
    So cheers boys 🍻

2013 Mits Triton. Owned since new. Finally in a position to start upgrading it.
Over the covid period I taught myself to weld. Built a touring rack to sit over my tub. 25x25x2 RHS. Holds 20l water jerry, 20l fuel jerry, max trax x 4, a shovel and had a mesh flooring that sits 700mm above the tub flooring so I have two times the flooring space. Frees up so much space for the extra stuff we always have!!
Over this project I learnt the importance of correct planning in the design stage of the project.
Thinking about center of gravity and how it changes the drivability of the vehicle
Placing the heavier items over the wheels/axels instead of over the far end of the tub increasing leverage in the wrong areas. For example…I placed both jerry cans on one side of the rack. Thus loading up one side instead of placing both jerrycans on each side of the vehicle to cancel each other out.
    All fun and games,
    Trent.

Currently setting up my BT50 for my wife to drive to Cape as we ride. She had an awesome long Easter weekend learning in the local area (and nearly sending us over a cliff while doing a 50 point turn) but a throttle control is now on the list to get ride of that lag.

You're right about weight. Duel cab Hilux's are making some of the big rigs look silly. Jocko has made some great mods on his Luxy's. Wider track and lifts. As far as engine mods, you need a good base to start. Cooling. Larger intercooler, gearbox oil cooler auto or man.

Currently the ranger is completely stock as I want to get use to the car and find out exactly what i want to do before I go spending a lot of money turning it into a touring rig (do it once do it right) and having family and friends that own highly modified 4wds it's good to see what they have done and the knowledge they have given me over the last few months has helped with starting my list of what I want to get done to turn the ranger into a nice touring rig and a evc throttle controller is on the list of things to get.

I feel this video in my soul, late in 2020 I started a project of my own, putting a TD42 from a Nissan CIVILIAN bus and putting it into a 98 GU Patrol (RD28) and the amount of issues ive come across, blows my mind. Now mid 2022 and I am only just getting close to starting the car. From wiring issues (the bus was a 24v system) to gearbox and drive shaft issues, this car has been a nightmares worth of challenges. But Ive learnt so much about mechanics and this car, I can safely say that I will be able to fix any mechanical issue that could ever come out of this car (because ive likely already rebuilt the part anyway!) and while I hope i never need to replace this engine, I can happily say that i would do it all over again, mistakes and all.

It's currently bone stock & so far a fantastic vehicle, my current plans for it is a mild lift, tires, some lighting & cargo modifications as well as light body armor. My second vehicle however is a BEAST, a 1993 Chevrolet K1500 Suburban. This monster hauls my wife & 4 kids, WHO by the way LOVE YOUR CHANNEL. It currently has a brush guard & older period correct KC Daylighters on a roof basket. I've added a Garmin GPS but not much else but the adventures we've had so far are incredible. Both of these vehicles are being built by my family in house with nothing more then a car port & both are being built to work together much like the squad of rigs you guys go out with. Im keeping it simple, hence the XLS. Ive done Falken wild peak tires, rear bar, roller cover, stedi light bar and racks for the roof top over the tray, oh and good quality driving! Slide bars, battery set up and fridge to come.... Less is more for me and would love the the code-breaker for that peace of mind out in the bush. Great show guys, keep up the great work

I need some more height as well as we are planning to head down to the Vic High Country next year, then north up the cape again in 2024, so it'll have to be versatile. Big thumbs up for the channel gents - cooking segments are the highlight.

Currently building a navara d40. I've had it 12months and it was bog stock. It now runs a 3inch lift, 2inch body lift on 32's. Picked up a 2nd hand iron Man bull bar which has since been replaced with a bc products bullbar.
Installed a full aluminium trade box on the rear which is now gone and now making a custom box.
2 weeks ago I put new rear guards and under mount tool boxes.

    Gents,
Another cracking vid, and as a career car tragic I can certainly agree with so much of your advice, absolutely spot on. This time around the prizes aren’t going to help my build but I thought I’d share my dream build anyway. Much like Shaun’s build I am rebuilding an old classic. I previously had a GQ wagon that I slowly built up to a decent rig. For me kids came along and I had to sell “Nikki” the GQ and leave my wheeling days being me. 10 years later I am slowly piecing together enough parts/funds/time to build a new GQ wagon, with some lessons learnt fro the past. Since this is a side project it has been little by little and finding time/funds between everything has been the hardest thing.
Shauno, Graham, Jocko and team, I live through your videos and love watching the ‘old girls’ hold their own, keep them coming and maybe I’ll see you on the tracks in another few years with my flex beast GQ!
    Cheers,
    Marty

I’m converting a Holden Monterey from auto with TOD (torque on demand) to manual and found that it is no small feat. It involves the five factory wiring looms to change over, setting up switches for engaging the front diff amounts other things! I am so glad I decided to pick up a complete manual vehicle, I decided to bring everything across so the Monterey is as factory as possible so it’s easier to scan for issues and to get parts for. I will be planning to supercharge it at a later date hence why I’m converting to manual. Learning lots of lessons so far!

Just finished a Landcruiser Series 200 build ( i say that loosly as you never really finish a build!). I purchased the vehicle new last year and have set it up mainly for outback touring with the odd tough track thrown in. The build included GVM upgrade, ARB air compressor, Cooper STT Pro tyres, snorkel, Safari ECU, ARB front and side bar work, Lightforce lights, Kaymar rear bar with dual wheel carriers, Long range fuel tank, Warn winch, UHF, catch can, secondary fuel filter and dual lithium battery setup. The build was based on my experience in remote travelling for 12 years in my previous vehicle, a Landcruiser Series 100. It was not a cheap build but I plan for it to last me many years, hence the use of quality products.

I am currently Building a Hj 45 Toyota land cruiser, went out to a few good camping spots when I first got it one the road, after doing all the basic mechanical work you do to a 43 year old 4x4. Found she reved hard on the highway and because of this the old girl decided she had enough and started big end knocking on the way home. Now I have found a rebuilt engine for the old girl. Going to swap the engine over, rebuild the box and transfer and both diffs. Changing the diff ratio from 4.1 to 3.7 so she's a lot nicer on the highway while keeping the bullet proof 4 speed. She won't be fast but she will take me anywhere :)

Biggest mistake was the Jeep I bought. Looked really clean, no rust, ran well on the test drives, then we get it and in 6 months it threw a misfire and we replaced the engine, transmission went another 6-8 months after that so that was rebuilt, alternator, battery, trac bar, drag link, steering stabilizer, catalytic converter, steering gear box. Just trying to hone in on the death wobble and then my next step is new and better lift than what is on it now since I think the lift on now is old and worn and just not up to standards anymore. Hoping to get this lift by the end of the year and get that on and then do some full maintenance checks before I go and travel wherever in the US. Great video as always and love the info you guys put out 🤙

(btw he has never told me about it) so i call my dad over and we look at this amazing car that has been siting for ages and ages in a barn, anyways i tell grandad about it and he is like " i havent driven that thing in years!) so my dad, grandad and i are all talking and grandad says (and ill never forget this) "Lucas you are an awesome grandson and i know your are getting your p plates soon, I want you to take the 40 series and restore it. I love you its all yours". What a day that was ! love ya grandad. The 40 series is currently in the shed being worked on. my plans for it are not anything crazy, I just want a 40 series that looks good and is mechanically a1. no big tires or anything silly!

I'm building a 2006 Hummer H3 with a Solid Axle Swap. It is mostly done. I just need to remove the old body lift from when it was IFS, brakes and track down that pin hole power steering leak I've had for a long time. It has 5.13 gears, heavy duty front and rear drive shafts, 1 ton steering components, spring over axle in the rear, 37s, some decent bar work, a winch, two AGM batteries on a charging system powering a 2,000 watt inverter system and is geared up for some great some days in the bush.
I plan on taking this out on a week to two week trip in a few months off grid, doing tough tracks and camping where I can. Then find the next site or swimming hole the next day. Making it an over all fun rig that can go the distance and put lots of track behind it.

picked up a 1999 4Runner limited, factory 4WD and rear e-locker, 3.4L gas V6. Almost 290,000 miles but runs great. Already have a couple thousand of my own miles on it. Previous owner put on some decent all-terrains and so far just been driving around the Arizona desert when I can. Installed an aftermarket skidplate up front because the OEM one was missing from a previous accident the vehicle had been in. Planning on aftermarket front and rear bumpers, winch for peace of mind, rocksliders, and a way to store extra fuel for longer trips. Would love to do a small suspension lift and supporting mods and get 33s under it, but at the moment she's go the clearance I need and brand new tires I don't want to get rid of yet. Only issue was bad O2 sensor wiring harness, and then had the timing belt/water pump taken care of because they were way past due. Surprisingly rust free for an old Toyota and I have Sooty to thank for getting me interested in the older Toyotas

Just bought my first 4wd after wanting one for the last 5 years but haven't been in a financial place to afford one, after saving for a while I decided to go with older pj ranger, fell in love with the ranger when wheeling with my brother inlaw, just remove my rear seats installed a basic 12v system and now I am currently building my own draw system and fridge box/slide for the back (supercab), planning to build a canopy for it in the next month or so and then once the campus all set up I'll be driving down south (WA based) head straight to Albany and making my way back up the coast to Perth.

Pick up my 2022 Hilux in June, asked Shauno @ the Brissy 4x4 show what’s the first thing he’d do when buying a new car and he said drive it. Gonna listen to that advice and build as I go. Being a modern car the Codebreaker is a must! 😊

Currently have 2 build on the go! 200 series is nearly finished and ready for our lap of aus next year. And also have a GQ patrol td42 just done the turbo and pump and about to get stuck into the suspension, just a weekend warrior with the lads!

Me and my old man are building an ex-mines 79 series. Stripped nearly the whole car back, rear end, all interior, doors, all suspension, all the front panels, all intake pieces for carbon clean. Anything that couldn’t be sanded and painted has been replaced. Soon to go get the panels straightened out and a coat of paint, then on the rebuild to get it back to cleanish factory spec. Hopefully should be done before I get my P’s late December.
