    Hi Ian, if your led light switch is only single pole try replacing it with a double pole switch to isolate the neutral as well as the live.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained

      That was my first thought but I only run a single live down to the switch - I woudl have to run the neutral as well which is a pain.

    One more thing to try - rotate the plug 180° in its socket on your power bank

    I also can't resist the cente aisle in Lidl. I've bought all sorts of things I never knew I didn't need, but they are there just in case. I do use most of them, eventually..

    Still need to complete the wood ship lap on the wall in the machinery lean to, including infill below the window visible in the solar panels instal.

    Hi Ian, I saw somebody suggest a bypass capacitor and that should address the LED ghosting problem you are having. You could also consider using a dimmer with a neutral capacity but pricey. Great idea doing all the little unfinished jobs before you start the main house otherwise, they will never get done. if Julie is still having problems with slugs and snails wet a piece of wood and lay it in the garden, check it each day and collect them from underneath and feed them to the chooks. My dad did it for years until he adopted 2 blue tongue lizards who did the job for him. Following and liking from Australia.

      I think I will worry less when I have full power in the workshop - I was just surprised at how much power was being drawn from the Ecoflow each day even when we are not there.

  • @harryiv6107

    Great work knocking things off that long list!!! For the LED lights I would look for a light that has an integrated power supply but if you absolutely don’t want to change the lights out I have heard that you could add a snubber circuit (I have no idea what that actually is but I believe it’s just adding a resistor somewhere into the circuit) to reduce or eliminate the glow from phantom voltage.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained

      I may be worry about it for nothing, but with limited battery storage at the moment it always concerns me.

  • @marcusd2380

    Just reading some of the comments on the glowing leds. Not sure if u can couple enough current inductively to make them glow. But for mains leds on the power rail inside the led there is a resistive path across the power rail in the region of 1 meg this discharges the caps on the power rail to cut out the glow. If you light glow for a short time after disconnecting the power but then go out it could be these are not fitted.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained

      They are reasonably cheap units - just not seen it before but think it is quite common. Probably worry for nothing.

    Your building/system is very well built. When you screw the osb to the studs watch out for the modern self tapping screws penetrating the nail plates. The better screws are really good at going through most anything. Of course I found the nail plate covering a water line and made the perfect leak. Solar panels are supposed to be able to support a man (technically a firefighter) standing on a panel. When you get all the panels connected it will be interesting to see how much power you generate on a cloudy day. You might be surprised how much you get.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained

      Yes, it would just be my luck to screw right through them. The single panel I have active at the moment will draw around 200watts on a cloudy day (550w panel). Which I am happy with. So if all 6 do that, it would be over a kilowatt which should replenish the batteries in no time.

  • @jimmysquires5093

    One possible reason for the glowing LEDs is inductive coupling. If your electrical wire to your light fixture is running along side a hot wire, there is a possibility of electron coupling. It does not take much to slightly turn on the LEDs. On the other hand, it is a very small amount of current that you will lose.

    • @HomesteadingUncontained

      It would mean building an inner and outer frame around the container - just seems silly doing all of that and hiding the container - so I want to do something else like a container barn or similar.

    All led lights wich do not light up if switched off do have a small resistor in its circuit, shortcircuting the 'fantom' pick up - resulting into drawing more 'fantom' current than your present lights

    • @HomesteadingUncontained

      so it would be worse to put something in to stop this. Once I get 'proper' power in the workshop I will not worry about it.

    • @fransvankralingen725

      @@HomesteadingUncontained the copper wires running to the lights do act as antenna's and pick up magnetic radiation (possibly from parrallel energized wires) the amount of energy lost this way is only measurable with sophisticated professional ecuipment.
      Regard the phantom light as conformation everything still works ok.

    Hi ian an Julie I have 4 solar sun trackers each with 4 solar . So I just have ordered 2 more trackers as I am finding they are much better output each solar panel is 550 w each . I have 8800w in total on the trackers and I have found out they are 24% more efficient than the other panels that are on t the roofs of buildings that are fixed so I can store more power and in much quicker time. I did exactly like you fit top an bottom angle bars to stiffen them up and have went through 2 winters in Highlands of Scotland with some very powerful storms and no damage all my trackers are quite wind protection not sure out in wide open area think wind would twist them

  • @rodduncan1183

    Yes I know it will require you to pull the light apart but
    Does it have a capacitor inside to accelerate start up ?
    You have how many LED's ? which require how many volts to start up but how many volts does it use when it is running ? I know P./A about things like this so I am sure someone will ascertain the real reason

    • @HomesteadingUncontained

      I think I am worry about nothing - according to most it will draw negligible current - once I get full power in the workshop it will not be an issue for sure. 👍🏻

  • @grunff

    your leds are lighting because of capacitively induced phantom voltage on the lines
    i am surprised that you say it is causing a measurable draw on your power bank; i would have expected that to be negligible
    do you have the option to use a double pole switch, switching both live and neutral going to the lights? that would fix it

    • @HomesteadingUncontained
