I hold pretty much the same opinion. An official remake of 06 just isn’t necessary, nor I do I trust Sega to handle it with the maturity and respect of something like P-06. By which I mean, I don't want the game to became unrecognizable or fundamentally changed from the roots up. I want a polished, refined, deeper version of the wxact same mechanics that were in the game originally. And I can't picture a better version of that than what ChaosX already spent nearly a decade doing. And thats the thing about passion projects, isn’t it? They aren't done to fullfill a job, to make money, or bend to the whims of theirs superiors. Passion projects are purely out of love for the craft, so you can trust that literally every line of code was written with the utmost care. Even if Sega did greenlight a remake, they wouldn't give the team the space or time to make something like what P-06 has evovled into after years iterations and open feedback from the fans. It may not be bad like the original, but may lose the soul of what was there, and to me, thats not worth it. Besides, like you said, Sonic needs to move forward. How many times are we going to go back to "good old days" or "correct past mistakes?" Say what you will about 06, but at least in the 2000s, Sega had the courage and the passion to keep pushing new boundaries and ideas for the series.
The potential value is a lot less from remaking 06 thank creating a banger of a new title, but fixing 06 feels "safer". Until we get a new game (And especially one that doesn't rely on the boost) it doesn't feel like we are moving forward. Frontiers and Shadow Gens have done all the restoration needed. Any more repeats is just a sign of stagnation.
We're changing the past, *rather than looking forward.* Its X factor is past us and stomped the Sonic out of reputation. Only something as good as Project 06 but official (far too unlikely...) will repair this. But hey, it's always fun to imagine an alternate history when somebody replaced 06 with Project 06 and saved the clout lost :)
@@Stargazing_night_sky yeah and keep shadows and silvers story the same since I thought they were well written and also to keep mephiles and rewrite sonics portion of story
@Stargazing_night_sky I find it weird yall like long hair Sonic. That shit looks weird to me. No form of Sonic has ever looked like that before or since.
@AMAZIAH and I find it weird that you like short hair in modern sonic lol idk I just don't like it. I like the skinnier, taller, long hair on modern sonic. It looks so much cooler than slightly taller classic sonic with green eyes. Also that last thing you said isn't true. Unleashed sonic had longer hair, which is tied for my favorite sonic design But yeah, It's all just preference. Edit: also another example of long haired sonic is Sonic Riders, which is also in my top 3 designs for sonic
People hate on this game because they don’t know the difference between a BAD game and an UNFINISHED game! And 06 is beyond clearly the latter. It has always had the potential to be the greatest Sonic game ever! Remake it! Clean up the controls, tighten up the story to reach its full potential (Shadow’s story is STILL epic af! But Sonic’s story needs work), don’t touch the level design it’s still some of the best in the series, flesh out the overworld to make it more lively and we have one hell of a remake on our hands.
@@TheRealMightyEmperorAnd you can do so much to fill them with atmosphere! Imagine the town kept some of those gorgeous decorations we saw in the opening of Sonic's story. Or a day night cycle was included. Heck, you could even make a brand new Chao Garden available somewhere! I think having a boat that takes you over to one in Soleanna Castle could be cool :) Actually this is giving me deja vu, lol. Didn't we talk about this under your Shadow P-06 review? 😆
@@TheRealMightyEmperor From what I've seen, development for it is going well! Chaos finished the base ideas for his End of The World stages about a year ago, and he's spent most of 2024 working on the boss fights (Jordan from Sonic Pox is also working on some cool, Frontiers-esc cinematics for the bosses as well). Aside from that, he's also adding the DLC stages (like the Very Hard versions of the levels, and the special Team Attack amigo levels), and has given the effects to the characters attacks another face lift.
We need a whole remake of the writing between Blaze interaction with BOTH Sonic & Silver alone... If there's one plothole sinkhole, it's probably that poor cat. November 15th 2005 - Sonic Rush Boost Formula birthday (Still not available on PS, Xbox, Switch & PC)

Anyone mad about an 06 remake. Hasn't played P-06. Thats one of the best Sonic experiences you can have. That doesn't feel like a fan game. Now imagine Sega got this right Realistic environments Updated combat Updated Story Open Zone hubs Expanded world design They'd get this blemish off their damn record. As like all remakes it'd supplant 06. In the continuity and the consensus around this damn 18 year old game. Only negative to this prospect. Is Sega shouldn't green light shit if they aren't going to let the devs finish it properly. This would be a chance to have a MEGA WIN. Righting the wrong of Sonic 06 with the remake effect. Would be insane and I bet you with Shadow and Silver. The movie and the plans the have for Silver in the movie verse. Would make a Sonic 06 remake with all 3 in the promo material and on the box art. Accompanied with good reviews would turn Sonic perception around overnight. Shadow Generations and Frontiers got the ball rolling. I don't think you get Shadow Gens selling like hotcakes without Frontiers. Being called a good game. Atleast out the gate before Sonic fans did what Sonic fans do and cannablised the game. "OH, This isn't exactly like I like it so it's bad." Instead of pointing a issue out as something to improve. People treat Frontiers, like it's a modern day 06. Colors saved Sonic as an IP. Sonic fans cannibalized it. Lost World does something different that could've really worked with refinement and better cohesion. Instead of saying that Sonic fans treated the game worse than journalists. Who thought it was cool but not great.
I'm not going to go that far. the internet tends to give distorted view on the amount and power of simple fan opinion. Journalist opinion has been far more influential than the fan opinion. Even general public opinion has been worth more to SEGA. Fan opinions are louder sure, and if you are a Sonic Fan yourself you are more likely to hear them, but they have by no means been steering the ship.
@ I agree with your point how it should be faithful to 06 mostly. I made a video about this as well and I thought basically if they change too much it won’t be 06 anymore really
I love Sonic 2006 so much! I want a remake of Sonic 2006 with the exact same direction/vision that the original Sonic 2006 had. Sonic 2006 is always/was/is still is/will always be good in every aspect regardless of everything. Listen to all Sonic 2006 fans and ignore all Sonic 2006 haters! I personally want a faithful remake of Sonic 2006! The original Sonic 2006's story was already good in every aspect of every character.
It's amazing that you found love for a game that if you walk on what looks like a flat surfuce is a death barrier but, I feel that Sonic 06 should not get a remake/remaster over games like Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 and Unleashed . If you want to play Sonic 06 but finished you could always play Project 06.
@SuperNonstop247 Chaos-X literally said that he won't add the hub world/town missions/level trails/story/plot/in-game cutscenes/CGI cutscenes/multi-player into Sonic Project-06 at all, Which is why i want Sonic Team to make the official Sonic 2006 that is 200% faithful to the original Sonic 2006 at its core DNA in all regards. So please understand me! Okay?
Saying anyone who doesn't like 06 is wrong, and anyone who likes it is right, is so clearly a bad world view to hold. It is such an all-or-nothing stance that means no meaningful discussion can be had. Sonic showing little consideration for Knuckles is not good in every aspect. Blaze not recognising Sonic is not good. Silver's ball puzzle is not good. The controls for Shadow's hover craft are not good. Chaos Blast is pathetic in Sonic 06. SEGA would never do a 100% faithful remake of 06 due to all the damage that game caused them. Even parts that are good risk getting changed heavily, hence the points I mention in this video.
How you felt about 06 originally is very similar to how I felt when I played rise of lyric and forces as a kid, I didn’t care about rise of lyric’s bugs and performance issues, or forces’ lack of difficulty(hell, forces was the first video game I ever properly beat as a kid) because I never got into the discussions surrounding the games until I really got into sonic a couple years ago after watching the movies. And even after hearing all the bad stuff about the games… I still have a soft spot for them, even 10 and 7 years later respectively.
Still wild for me to think of people growing up on those games. If Forces was your first Sonic game, naturally you would have less expectations going in. I have a review of Sonic Forces that is completely honest on my view point. With Sonic 06 it became popular to make claims it was the worst thing to happen to humanity as a whole!
Well, don't be surprised if SEGA eventually does announce an official Sonic 06 remake because an amount of people have already revealed that in one of these recent days the person at SEGA who was the producer of the original Sonic 06 game said that he wants there to be an opportunity to remake that game. If Paramount decides to have one of the next Sonic movies be made as a Sonic 06 inspired one to bring Silver, Blaze and maybe even Mephiles into their Sonic Cinematic Universe, (SCU for short) the SEGA higher-ups might think of that as an opportunity to accept that producer's idea and have Sonic Team start working on remaking Sonic 06. That game is in the contract of which ones that studio is allowed to adapt, and they hinted at it twice in the Knuckles show. 1. Maddie wearing clothes in a scene during episode 1 that match some of the colors on Silver. 2. That "Flames of Disaster" titled episode. Plus they did say that they have some big plans for Silver.
I had a dream simular with Iblis I remember has Shadow walking before Iblis appears like he was a jumpscare and Iblis roared at Shadow like he was about to have a boss fight
Sonic’s actually written the same in 06 as other games. It’s just the bad facial animations that give off the impression he isn’t. His writing between this and Unleashed for example is very similar as they were both written by the same person. The frowning was also a result of the game being rushed and not a stylistic choice as every character gas a -_- face in that game and concept art for the same scenes has Sonic smiling in them.
Wow, Sonic '06 is a topic that never gets old for you, does it? I wasn't aware a Sonic '06 remake was/is being considered, but if there's official news of it, I'd certainly welcome it. Sonic '06 is a special case and I do believe Sonic Team needs to revisit this disastrous entry and make a daring remake even if there is fan opposition. Like you, I want the story to be faithful to how it was originally imagined because I personally appreciate its serious tone, but there's gotta be an update. The relationship between Sonic and Elise needs to be some kind of mutually beneficial thing. We see Elise is lacking in self-confidence and is used to hiding her feelings in the beginning, but I'd want her to develop some confidence and get a little more comfortable revealing her feelings. I imagine Sonic will rescue her again and again, but she needs to help him with a few things in return. I'd love it if in a few scenes, Elise finds the courage to assert her authority as a princess and insist Sonic do/not do a specific thing. We all know Sonic can be stubborn at times, but if he can grudgingly respect her wish, it'll be memorable. (Or maybe make sparks fly?) And you're right, Sonic is a bit different in '06 because he's more serious than usual and for some unexplainable reason, he is single-minded about saving Elise and keeping her safe. But this new side to him if what makes the story memorable if you ask me. I'm guessing the biggest challenge in remaking '06 is how Sonic Team will reinvent Silver's gameplay because he's not fast like Sonic and Shadow and I remember you made a video on this. I hope they'll come up with something. And maybe it'll be better if Sonic's friends aren't playable so the focus will be specifically on the three hedgehogs.
All the changes you say are reasonable, but they diverge even from Project 06. This large pool of different ways they could remake the game is a strong reason why I think they should just make a new game instead. A new game that can be inspired by 06 but with none of the baggage or limitations.
@@TheRealMightyEmperor I get you, but I was thinking a new title will be needed if a remake will ever be made because "Sonic the Hedgehog" or "Sonic '06" just won't do.
They just gotta make sure that the game is polished and they include all of the planned content. Make more characters playable in more stages and better physics
11:17 So true, they aren't even that many adventure styled Sonic games only like 5 of them, that being Adventure 1, Adventure 2, Heroes, Shadow 2005 and Sonic 06. Even though i still play these games over and over again without getting bored, i still prefer something new in that style and not just getting another sequel to Sonic Generations over and over again!
To be honest P06 is the best example we have as of right now of what this game could have been if Sega had more time and did not have their team cut so they could have half develop sacred rings for the Wii. They should have put more time into it and focus on a designated Wii game later.
This was something I wasn't expecting to hear from the developers, but then again our world is full of interesting surprises. Well there's pros and cons to the idea of a Sonic 06 remake. On one hand, it's a infamous Sonic game that's an unfinished mess with bugs and glitches, some poor level design placements (looking at you Silver's Dusty Desert pinball segment), a story that's a little all over the place and kind of confusing on some level or just repetitive like Elise being captured over 5 times, some hit and miss usage of the characters, and of course the infamous kissing moment. On the other hand, there's potential to make the game really good seeing the developers have an interest in doing a remake and a good opportunity to learn the mistakes and correct them as much as possible. The Adventure gameplay style is fun but certainly could be better like Project 06 judging the footage (I really wanna try that game out, but don't have the means or know how), Shadow and Silver's stories are the highlights, the music is mostly great, Mephiles is a great villain, the visuals are nice but could get a makeover, and there was at least a sense of passion being put into the game but sadly got half baked to meet the holiday deadline. Would I like to see a Sonic 06 remake, sure. Ideally, they need to bring back some of the old voice actors like Jason for Sonic and Shadow, Lisa for Amy, and Pete for Silver for example and the human designs should have an anime style and mobians living alongside humans. But I also do agree that we need to move on from old stuff from the past and move forward, kind of like what Sonic Frontiers did (despite it made references in dialogue and unfortunately Cyberspace... Go away Green Hill Zone.). Sega has been obsessed with the Classic Era of Sonic and having it brought over to Modern Sonic is honestly hurting his image and reputation.
Yep, we need to walk into something truly fresh. ChaosX has a TH-cam channel, if you go to it you will be able to download the latest build of P-06 for PC.
I just want a Silver the Hedgehog game. The events of '06 were erased, which means Sonic Team has an opportunity to reintroduce Silver and give him a new, fleshed-out backstory. And no boost formula. Silver DOES NOT need a boost. If anyone is interested, I already have an idea for the story.
I would mostly prefer Chaos X P06 to be used and supported by Saga and ported it to the current/ next gen systems it'll just save time and money. If preservation is still an issue then pull a Sonic X Shadow genretions where you have a menu that has a original vs remastered version for people who like the oringal rushed feel of the game
@@ChiefMedicPururu eh honestly it's not hard for sonic team in house to do. Just have Chaos X do the level stuff while Sega just adds the remainder stuff in. Honestly having a slightly better Hub with more clear texture work if they have the original textures (hopefully Sega didn't throw out the code or anything of 06 (+_+) )
Just watched the ending bit and it made me think of a Sonic fan story I'm writing on AO3. Called it Sonic Destiny and its a free part series (technically four parts) which is essentially my interpretation of a Sonic 06 redeem whilst also pointing out several things and I changed a lot. One change was knowing that people did not like the interspecies relationship thing I made Elise a new love interest in the form of a Prince from a neighboring kingdom and in that her whole story is based around worry of an upcoming betrothal. She's worried because she does not know if she'll live up to the expectations of Kyiden's (the prince character) mother. Knowing that she was an amazing queen. Then Sonic comes in and tells her to not worry about that and to rule as herself. I think that could work except for the fact that in that story the main villain is actually Sonic.exe though I use the name X for him but I change his lore a bit whilst using some of the original lore. In this he is actually a Void entity and brother to the one who actually created all the universes, and X's goal is to destroy all universe because he sees them as abominations. I also included hyper Sonic and changed up a way of how that works.
@@TheRealMightyEmperor probably but that is only the start of it. I literally also do poke fun at a few things such as Elise's tights with Kyiden sometimes as a gag asking her to either take them off or switch them out as the orange doesn't look good. I also basically have their relationship summed up to essentially he's a Prince she's a Princess. Then another thing I did was have Sonic upon learning about the events of 06 from X because he's with Blaze and Silver. He asks what she was doing in the future to which Blaze has no idea.
All they gotta do is create an 06 inspired game with the adventure era vibes and include some modern things like the skills tree from sonic frontiers for each playable character and their combat and add some upgrades like the light shoes, bounce bracelet, blue gem, green gem etc and they could release it on the 40th anniversary for sonic to symbolise how big of a milestone it is and they could say that the game will reform the future of the sonic franchise and start a new era or smth and maybe say that it’s the year of silver or the year of the future or smth like that to drag more attention towards it and I’m pretty sure if they include all the characters from sonic heroes, silver, blaze and maybe even mighty and ray for some nostalgia then they could use the time travel concept to bring back mephiles, zavok, infinite, maybe the end, chaos and some other villains then it would genuinely be one of the most hyped up and most anticipated releases for the sonic franchise since it would bring all kinds of sonic fans together Summary: In short they make an adventure styled 06 inspired game with Amy instead of Elise with less romance along with some modern aspects like skill trees or character upgrades and they bring back all the characters from sonic heroes and different iconic villains with time travel for the 40th anniversary
A complete from the ground up remake that changes everything like Resident Evil 2 could work wonders for this game, even just sticking to gameplay changes only like P-06.
It wouldn't even be 06 anymore though. Making it fundamentally different game defeats the whole purpose. You're not showing people what 06 could've been, you're just writing a rebooted version of it in a style completely divorced from the original vision. I agree that gameplay wise, though, P-06 would be the ideal form. Simply because it faithfully builds on the existing mechanics and includes intended features that were in game's files/manual, but didn't make it in due to the rushed development.
I'm just happy the idea is on the table at all. Sega feared this game for so long so I don't mind if they attempt to rewrite history and show the world that 06 really did have potential.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a good example of remakes not always being a good thing, like Rouge's model being tweaked to be "less revealing" despite her wearing her usual costume that she's had since SA2, and the re-recording of lines resulting in the new lines being delievered dully.
@@TheRealMightyEmperor Same. If I want to play Sonic Generations, I'll just play the original release. That version doesn't have any of the unnecessary changes and whatnot that the remaster has.
it's strange hearing people say things like, "Sonic feels out of character in 06," and yet the only "character" Westerners can tell me about comes from how the West interprets him. seems like not a soul can really tell what his character truly is.
I honestly wouldnt want them to change the story at all. I actually like it. Is it kind of corny and weird at times? Sure. But i like the vibe of the game and its fantastical, serious nature. Would i change a few things? Yes. But the thing is, i dont have even a TINY bit of faith Sega/Sonic Team knows what those things are and would actually fix them. I dont think they have the talent, the wisdom, or the wherewithal to make those small changes while keeping the game's identity intact. On top of that i hate this Modern cast that wont go away. If i hear Roger's voice come out of Sonic's mouth again ill go insane and to hear him in a 2000's game will just destroy me by that point. For that alone, i dont think i would want to play the game. Its not going to be for me at the end of the day, someone who enjoys the game for what it is despite its problems. Its going to be for those people who made a sport jumping on its corpse for almost 20 years now. And that isnt for the best i think.
@TheRealMightyEmperor I agree. I don't know why 06's existence has to hold back the series from ever moving forward again. Which seems to be the case for a lot of people, including Sega for some reason. They can just as well make a new game that plays more like the Adventure games like this one. They don't need a remake or anything like that. They can and should be able to make new, great, original games regardless. One thing I know for sure is its FAR past the time for an original game that doesn't depend on the past to stay relevant. We have had far too many games rehashing old ideas at this point. It's why I kind of hate the idea of a remake at all, cause it's been over 10 years since we had anything new that was actually good. This series has lived in its past since 2011 and gotten way too comfortable staying there
i have this game i was 7 back then but i can't remember playing as anyone other than sonic which is fucking my mind, so either i played one level and never touched it or it is just forgettable.
If it does happen. I hope it gives Elise more chance to shine. ^_^ Call me crazy, I didnt mind the kiss as much. It was to just bring Sonic back anyway. Depsite what the haters say. Even they can give Elise a mobian form? Just so people can stop complaining that a hunan kissed an animal. They forgotting something, Sonic is an anamorphic animal. 😐 Yeah yeah. Something like that. Maybe a name change? I read online that someone asked what a name change will be for a game and then one caught my eye is "Sonic Solaris Project". I like it.
In my eyes it's not erasing the history to remake it, because there is no way to do that to such a... "Important" game to the history of Sonic. I'd see it as a triumph if they could remake it with more emphasis on the parts that worked, showing the world that 06 wasn't flawed in conception, just execution. Granted Project 06 is doing that to a degree already, but I'd be down for Sega to give it an official try. But also a sequel of sorts, even just a spiritual one, could be even better. I guess I don't mind so long as I get a new game that's good.
I'm not sure Christian Whitehead is the call. I haven't seen him do anything Sonic Adventure inspired before. Not to say he couldn't., but ChaosX easily would take priority here.
@@TheRealMightyEmperor I don't think they meant literally pull in Christian, but rather pull a similar stunt to what they did bringing him in. "Pull a Christian Whitehead" = "bring in another passionate fan developer who understands the formula and can make a great game."
What tier would you put Sonic Generations and Shadow Generations in (each game individually)? As for 06, yes I'd definitely want it to be more than a 'simple' make-the-game-work type remake, instead something using its spirit abd soul to make the best game possible (but probably toned down a bit in the 'real world' level, the ending especially; I think trying to put video game characters into the real world is kind of a bygone era so it would sort of need a de-emphasis).
They're the only 2 games that could realistically be considered the best 3D Sonic game imo. I personally like the Sonic stages in SA1, Speed stages in SA2 and Daytime stages in Unleashed more than some of the stages in thise games. However there's always one gameplay style which just isn't fun ruining the whole package. The worst you could say for are the Classic Sonic levels and 2D levels but even those are good even if they don't match up to the main 3D acts. Together, it's the undisputed best 3D Sonic game.
I don't think the real world aspects need to be toned down. Although it is nice to think a Sonic 06 remake would be a flat improvement, this comment section alone shows how many different versions of "improvement" the fans all have. A new game would be better.
This wouldn't be such a big debate if they just bundled the original game with the remake (a touched up version of course). Then everyone's happy. Unfortunately, the only dev that's sorta doing that in modern time to my knowledge is Konami of all people 💀 Me personally, calling Sonic '06 a stain on the franchise is an understatement. This was supposed to be THE 15th Anniversary game, and it was so bad that it left the mainline games directionless until after Forces. I'd say that correcting this mistake and redeeming themselves would very much help them in the long run because the biggest joke of the franchise is wiped away by how potentially good (and perhaps insanely successful) a remake would end up.
My frustration with this era of gaming, even the ones with the most polish is that devs couldn't make the transition to specialized conventions of play which emphasize a certain aspect about their experience Their presentation was set to this in-betweener phase, stuck between funny "look at how animation works" and photorealism with only so much tessellation in windows vista The former was retro gaming, everyone understood what they were getting. Contra and Double Dragon were definitely playable albeit you had to stretch the imagination based on how your mind interpreted the box art The latter is Borderlands filters on EVERYTHING, with the occasional Arkham Asylum sending the studio into bankruptcy for a game that has all the versatility of a nerf gun What's lost is what degree of immersion the game has for you as they string you between events. I think for a time, clunky unwieldy mechanics were fair game because we were accustomed to the coin op experience. For a quarter you could try your hand at a very specific induction into their world and walk away feeling like it was novel. It's like going to a carnival and doing the hoop toss. The rules were plain and if you managed to clear the trial, you got a trophy for showcasing your understanding of the game These days everything wants to be cinematic like playing the virtual equivalent of Inception, but without the thrill of the narrative introducing elements for you to trace. Which is odd because we've jumped from a quarter to a $60 price tag to cut your teeth on more vertices than a Rubik's cube. I think the lack of polish on a program would be less glaring if they reduced the complexity and emphasized mastery once again With more abstraction you require more overhead or at least more headroom for the player to register the skill ceiling. This is actually my complaint about the latest Shadow Campaign. The style and the edge is all there, but Shadow's world is far too ballistic. It's Dr Strange in the presentation, but Kazaam in the execution If braindead, family friendly entertainment is what they're going for, they've set up a decent hay ride for us. I couldn't shake the feeling that they could have gone deeper with the sense of control. If Sonic is breakneck speed, Shadow's appeal should have been all about mastering his time dialation- lateral movements within the frame. I didn't care for whatever made the camera flit between different perspectives as if this was universal studios. As a player, you're supposed to have some conception of what makes him curb incoming threats. Less spiderman, but more daredevil. The best example I could think of in the gaming world is Samus in Metroid Dread. You wouldnt think that a 5 foot woman should be juggling Kraid like an inflatable balloon, until you juxtapose the principles of leverage with what the suit can do regimented under overclocked settings Then again, Dread is an example of super stylized set play. It makes me happy that they forewent releasing a mainline game between the GameCube and the Wii U to show us what a graphical overhaul looks like. So if only Sonic could internalize this lesson and stop releasing 25 games a semester. Just make the one or two that communicates the replayable element of what these people specialize in Just watching Sonic bob about sliding into superman 64 style rings is a humongous immersion breaker as he backhand springs into a wall cling for the closer and I shut my console off out of sheer embarrassment
This comment confuses me, I understand what you are saying but not why you are saying it. Are you trying to group everything from 2000 to 2024 as "modern gaming", because that is just not true. The industry has changed so much in that time, and there are many games that do not shoot for cinematic. Triple A does yes, but not every game is triple A. Sonic 06 was also exceptionally bad for the time it released, it was by no means the benchmark of games that came out alongside it, let alone after or even before. It was a bad game. And for the 2010's, Sonic was taking large pauses between games with far less than any time before it. It feels as if your comment is from 2007, and I am not trying to be insulting here, I genuinely am confused why this video prompted that response.
I think something that gets lost in remake discussion is that kids, teens, and any other casual fan of any series just aren’t going to pay attention to a quiet rerelease. Remakes aren’t just a quick easy nostalgia grab, they’re a way to bring games back into the limelight and give a whole new generation a chance to try them. I might have never tried out games like Link’s Awakening if there weren’t new remakes in the getting publicity. That’s why new classic compilations like Sonic Origins matter, whatever you may think of that game, because without them, we miss out on a whole generation of Sonic fans not playing the classics
@ I can see that but it really depends on how this hypothetical remake would go about. If it is faithful enough to keep the good that was in the original and commit to the ideas it was going for, you could say it does that for all of those good points: bringing them forward to get more attention. Ultimately this whole discussion just spins itself in circles because everyone has a different idea of what a remake would actually even realistically look like, let alone ideally look like.
Sorry but I would die on that hill, if the game gets remade the kiss has to go. Not only does it overshadow all the good the game has in general audiences minds, it has damaged Elise herself as a character. Which is a shame because we need more supporting human characters.
I just want Justice for Blaze the Cat she received the worst treatment in 06 unacceptable and what would be epic being in the IDW characters instead of a remake for 06 brand new game.
@AYTM1200 Sega is so incompetent you could give them 99 percent of a finished game, and they would find a way to F it up. I wouldn't trust them to chew bubble gum when it comes to Sonic.
You know...if we are gonna get a remake they need to do some touch up on the story i say fet rid of that kiss scene of elise and sonic i think... everyone can agree that this scene needs to get abolished! It's... honestly cringe.
The only issue I have with Elise, is that kids that happens right in front of Amy. If someone added the rest of the game, to Project 06, all they need to do is get Elise to kiss Sonic on his forehead, instead of his lips and the issue would disappear.
@ debatable. Either way, a lot of people don’t like it, including myself. For me, it’s really the awkwardness of Amy looking at another woman kissing him, despite the urgency of the situation. That romance simply complicates things beyond the scope of a Sonic story. It resembles something Ken Penders would come up with.
@ Amy is owed a little bit of respect, given that she was an integral part of some games. And no, this is really not any better than anything that Penders made.
Amy should have at least visually reacted, but at the same time. Sonic was dead. Amy is shown to not be so petty as to be made someone else kissed him when that Kiss saved his life. It is clunky for sure. Also somewhat related, Sonic and Amy were not a couple. Amy loves Sonic, and the Blue blur keeps his stance a mystery whilst not fully driving her away.
I would be completely okay with a remake because Sonic 06 wasn't good developt. The story is awesome, and that's why they should remake it to make the playable parts the best they can make it. Also, for me and maybe for other people as well, make Elise and other humans all animals like Sonic and his friends. That would make the game and scenes (like the kiss scene) so much better.
I would not want humans to become animals. Shadow generations brining Humans back is one of my favourite parts. This is a good example of why I would not want SEGA to remake 06!
I feel like a faithful remake with the same style would work, but to elevate it would be even better. Imagine halfway through, Mephiles somehow gains knowledge of his fate. Maybe something to do with Shadow Gens. Something akin to FF7 remake. Make it tie into the story somehow! Let Mephiles exist! Maybe have the game be a full remake with improvements, and the new stuff happens after the ending. Just a thought
Unlike FF7, Sonic 2006 is not a pocket dimension to the rest of the series. As in, games take place after 06 and are connected to it, where as only FF7 spin offs are related to FF7. That approach wouldn't work, unless you want Shadow generations, Sonic Frontiers etc to no longer exist.
Nah.. the meta story of FF7R was one of it's weaker aspects to me, and it's not the ideal way of keeping Mephiles in the story. You could easily just have Mephiles teased to still be alive in a post credits ending. I remember someone found something the files that suggested 06 would've had 3 different ending cinematics depending on who you finished off Solaris with. Maybe Shadow's cinematic ending for the last story could have that tease for Mephiles.
imo Sonic should just stop trying to be what it used to be, and become something better. they had their chance and they failed, they're only hurting themselves by focusing so much on past successes
but p 06 is only for pc meaning many other people can't play it for there self like me so I think they should make a remake but maybe if I had the opportunity to play p 06 maybe I would agree
@@goldmwashita9680 If there already is a remake of 06 then SEGA should't remake/remaster a worse version of it. It would be a waste of resources and time for another project. Also, you don't need an entire desktop pc to play Project 06, even a macbook or maybe even a chromebook could run it.
I don't see why we can't do both. Who says that an 06 remake means that we'll never see those ideas again? In fact, in that same fan meet up where the director of 06 and Shadow Gens said that, he also said that they are trying to incorporate ideas from past games while still making new ones. Shadow Generations is the perfect example of that. There is so much DNA from the 3 last eras of Sonic. That being Adventure, boost, and open world. Imo, I would really like an 06 remake. My reasons: 1. I've never played the original 2. I'd love to see more boost adventure hybrid like Shadow Generations 3. It would do so much for the franchises reputation 4. Contrary to what you said, I think this would only encourage them to make an 06 sequel, or just straight up Adventure 3. Once again this idea doesn't remove using those ideas again from the equation. But all in all, it really doesn't matter. We all know it's not going to happen. It's just too much of a risk. If I was in the directors shoes, I too would love to redeem my biggest failure. But because it's my biggest failure, I cannot redeem it.
They could bring the devs of that game in to help them.
We're changing the past, *rather than looking forward.*
Its X factor is past us and stomped the Sonic out of reputation. Only something as good as Project 06 but official (far too unlikely...) will repair this.
But hey, it's always fun to imagine an alternate history when somebody replaced 06 with Project 06 and saved the clout lost :)
Sure, but the start of your comment was on the money. It's best to look the the future now.
If sega wants a remake of Sonic 06 to sell they need to give the game a complete overhaul and make it actually playable
Keep the 06 character designs though.
Not really they just to finish it and hire that Brazilian
Unleashed sonic had longer hair, which is tied for my favorite sonic design
But yeah, It's all just preference.
Edit: also another example of long haired sonic is Sonic Riders, which is also in my top 3 designs for sonic

If 06 was successful we would have had a better timeline. I miss Sonic’s friends being playable and the epic story. 😔
So true...

Yeah the hub worlds just need a bit more love.
I think having a boat that takes you over to one in Soleanna Castle could be cool :)
Actually this is giving me deja vu, lol. Didn't we talk about this under your Shadow P-06 review? 😆
Hahaha, we might very well have! I hope the Boss Battle Update is still developing well so I can make another review!
Ok, that is exciting!
I still defend 06 to death. I knew it had flaws, but I find it legitimately fun to this day.

They'd get this blemish off their damn record.
I like 06 it’s just unfinished that’s the only problem really
Forever incomplete :(
@ I agree with your point how it should be faithful to 06 mostly.
@@SuperNonstop247 It's not that bad
I played the game and I didn't die by any of that
You'll love p 06
SEGA also have been talking about Adventure Remakes / Adventure 3 for YEARS. A lot of that is just PR talk to generate interest.
I had a dream simular with Iblis I remember has Shadow walking before Iblis appears like he was a jumpscare and Iblis roared at Shadow like he was about to have a boss fight
Do it SEGA! It would be the greatest clap back & redemption in gaming history! 👏🏿
Imagine if they fumbled twice
@@TheRealMightyEmperor Don't think that way. We need a clap back!
Remake? More like finishing the game!
Gottem
Sonic’s actually written the same in 06 as other games. It’s just the bad facial animations that give off the impression he isn’t. His writing between this and Unleashed for example is very similar as they were both written by the same person. The frowning was also a result of the game being rushed and not a stylistic choice as every character gas a -_- face in that game and concept art for the same scenes has Sonic smiling in them.
Partially agree, but he is a lot more dismissive of Team Sonic ironically compared to any other game.
(Or maybe make sparks fly?)
And you're right, Sonic is a bit different in '06 because he's more serious than usual and for some unexplainable reason, he is single-minded about saving Elise and keeping her safe.
Doesn't mean they would though
11:17 So true, they aren't even that many adventure styled Sonic games only like 5 of them, that being Adventure 1, Adventure 2, Heroes, Shadow 2005 and Sonic 06. Even though i still play these games over and over again without getting bored, i still prefer something new in that style and not just getting another sequel to Sonic Generations over and over again!
Indeed!
To be honest P06 is the best example we have as of right now of what this game could have been if Sega had more time and did not have their team cut so they could have half develop sacred rings for the Wii.
They should have put more time into it and focus on a designated Wii game later.
Yes
P-06 is not the complete game, tho. No hub, no story cutscenes.
@ChiefMedicPururu when it does get complete.
@@pinkheartgamers5007 Only bosses and End of the World is left, the project won't have the cutscenes nor the hub.

@@secondaryatlac I thought you meant the upcoming DLC for the game
Looks like you have your own Sonic 2006 Remake already!
@@reeceemms1643 my dude after you're done your goat fan fiction you should make that into game form as well bro.
All they gotta do is create an 06 inspired game with the adventure era vibes and include some modern things like the skills tree from sonic frontiers for each playable character and their combat and add some upgrades like the light shoes, bounce bracelet, blue gem, green gem etc and they could release it on the 40th anniversary for sonic to symbolise how big of a milestone it is and they could say that the game will reform the future of the sonic franchise and start a new era or smth and maybe say that it’s the year of silver or the year of the future or smth like that to drag more attention towards it and I’m pretty sure if they include all the characters from sonic heroes, silver, blaze and maybe even mighty and ray for some nostalgia then they could use the time travel concept to bring back mephiles, zavok, infinite, maybe the end, chaos and some other villains then it would genuinely be one of the most hyped up and most anticipated releases for the sonic franchise since it would bring all kinds of sonic fans together
Summary: In short they make an adventure styled 06 inspired game with Amy instead of Elise with less romance along with some modern aspects like skill trees or character upgrades and they bring back all the characters from sonic heroes and different iconic villains with time travel for the 40th anniversary
So many options
A complete from the ground up remake that changes everything like Resident Evil 2 could work wonders for this game, even just sticking to gameplay changes only like P-06.
The story would need a serious overhaul though.
At that point just make a new game
If it is a sign they have changed their internal view on 06 and it's features, sure. But it could also just be a PR stunt.
Honestly i am fine with 06 getting a redemption arc the game had a great story but it was completely ruined by its horrible gameplay
It's legacy is set in stone. Why not making a new game and have it be better than 06 ever could be?
It’s not impossible the question is is Sega actually able to do it properly
That is a big question
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a good example of remakes not always being a good thing, like Rouge's model being tweaked to be "less revealing" despite her wearing her usual costume that she's had since SA2, and the re-recording of lines resulting in the new lines being delievered dully.
Not going to lie, I only played the Shadow part of the game
I have to disagree, I much prefer the revised script, it's a vast improvement over the original.
you care about rouge's model being changed???? You care about seeing bat tits??? kinda weird bro
@@TheSwordsman100I actually disagree with that. But I respect your opinion
@@TheRealMightyEmperor Same. If I want to play Sonic Generations, I'll just play the original release. That version doesn't have any of the unnecessary changes and whatnot that the remaster has.
it's strange hearing people say things like, "Sonic feels out of character in 06," and yet the only "character" Westerners can tell me about comes from how the West interprets him. seems like not a soul can really tell what his character truly is.
what if, and hear me out, remake older sonic games but in the unleashed formula (without the night hack n slash stages)
No one wants more boost games in older titles.
If that's what they want to do they should just remake Unleashed. But a new game would be better,
06 but Elise isn't human and instead an anthropomorphic animal. Literally every single problem with the story is fixed
This would be what a remake would be like though. Best they just make a newer game.
We will never know

Even they can give Elise a mobian form? Just so people can stop complaining that a hunan kissed an animal. They forgotting something, Sonic is an anamorphic animal. 😐
Yeah yeah. Something like that. Maybe a name change? I read online that someone asked what a name change will be for a game and then one caught my eye is "Sonic Solaris Project". I like it.
Elise is fine as a Human
@TheRealMightyEmperor
Yeah, I agree with you there. She is fine as a human also. Just want her to have more screen time.
Too late for the Mobian treatment. Also, the latest takeover shows the team still dislike her.
@@ChiefMedicPururu That is more the fact that no one remembers Elise rather than an opinion on her Character
@@TheRealMightyEmperor Sonic does remember her, tho. TSR JP has him making a reference to a 06-only event.
The takeovers aren't canon, anyway.
Spiritual Sequel would do it for me.
I don’t really see why they keep talking about remaking ‘06 when they can literally just start doing it
Probably because it is a PR stunt with no real plans
If Sega does want to remake Sonic 06 I hope they pull a Christian Whitehead and bring in ChaosX and everyone that worked on P06
@@TheRealMightyEmperor my bad I meant like bring in ChaosX if they were going to make a Sonic 06 remake
No, they’d need to keep the “real world” aspect.
Can someone please explain why silver gets so much hate ALL THE TIME? I think hes a great character and hes my Favorite too :/ 😐
I have a video called the curious case of Silver.
This wouldn't be such a big debate if they just bundled the original game with the remake (a touched up version of course). Then everyone's happy. Unfortunately, the only dev that's sorta doing that in modern time to my knowledge is Konami of all people 💀
Me personally, calling Sonic '06 a stain on the franchise is an understatement.
I still think more good can be done with a new game that is made to be the best it can be
My frustration with this era of gaming, even the ones with the most polish is that devs couldn't make the transition to specialized conventions of play which emphasize a certain aspect about their experience
Their presentation was set to this in-betweener phase, stuck between funny "look at how animation works" and photorealism with only so much tessellation in windows vista
The former was retro gaming, everyone understood what they were getting. Contra and Double Dragon were definitely playable albeit you had to stretch the imagination based on how your mind interpreted the box art
The latter is Borderlands filters on EVERYTHING, with the occasional Arkham Asylum sending the studio into bankruptcy for a game that has all the versatility of a nerf gun
What's lost is what degree of immersion the game has for you as they string you between events. I think for a time, clunky unwieldy mechanics were fair game because we were accustomed to the coin op experience. For a quarter you could try your hand at a very specific induction into their world and walk away feeling like it was novel. It's like going to a carnival and doing the hoop toss. The rules were plain and if you managed to clear the trial, you got a trophy for showcasing your understanding of the game
These days everything wants to be cinematic like playing the virtual equivalent of Inception, but without the thrill of the narrative introducing elements for you to trace. Which is odd because we've jumped from a quarter to a $60 price tag to cut your teeth on more vertices than a Rubik's cube. I think the lack of polish on a program would be less glaring if they reduced the complexity and emphasized mastery once again
With more abstraction you require more overhead or at least more headroom for the player to register the skill ceiling. This is actually my complaint about the latest Shadow Campaign. The style and the edge is all there, but Shadow's world is far too ballistic. It's Dr Strange in the presentation, but Kazaam in the execution
If braindead, family friendly entertainment is what they're going for, they've set up a decent hay ride for us. You wouldnt think that a 5 foot woman should be juggling Kraid like an inflatable balloon, until you juxtapose the principles of leverage with what the suit can do regimented under overclocked settings
Then again, Dread is an example of super stylized set play. It makes me happy that they forewent releasing a mainline game between the GameCube and the Wii U to show us what a graphical overhaul looks like. So if only Sonic could internalize this lesson and stop releasing 25 games a semester. Just make the one or two that communicates the replayable element of what these people specialize in
Just watching Sonic bob about sliding into superman 64 style rings is a humongous immersion breaker as he backhand springs into a wall cling for the closer and I shut my console off out of sheer embarrassment
I agree that business and looking for engagement is messing with gaming
I think something that gets lost in remake discussion is that kids, teens, and any other casual fan of any series just aren’t going to pay attention to a quiet rerelease. Remakes aren’t just a quick easy nostalgia grab, they’re a way to bring games back into the limelight and give a whole new generation a chance to try them. I might have never tried out games like Link’s Awakening if there weren’t new remakes in the getting publicity. That’s why new classic compilations like Sonic Origins matter, whatever you may think of that game, because without them, we miss out on a whole generation of Sonic fans not playing the classics
Except the subject of this remake is not a game you would want new fans to play in the first place! So it loses that value.
Please SEGA just make a new game
There is nothing wrong with the kiss.
I just want Justice for Blaze the Cat she received the worst treatment in 06 unacceptable and what would be epic being in the IDW characters instead of a remake for 06 brand new game.
Blaze needs more love
@@TheRealMightyEmperor yes she does Sega is really sleeping on a true gem 💎
Chaosx actually doesn’t want to be a game developer as a career so he’d say no anyway.
Can't he just give what he's already built to Sonic Team and let them finish the rest ?.
I don't believe SEGA would reach out to ChaosX anyway.
@AYTM1200 Sega is so incompetent you could give them 99 percent of a finished game, and they would find a way to F it up. I wouldn't trust them to chew bubble gum when it comes to Sonic.
hey my great mighty emperor can you please do what if mario and sonic worlds were in the same world ?
Eh maybe, it has been done millions of times and I am not well versed with mario lore.
You know...if we are gonna get a remake they need to do some touch up on the story i say fet rid of that kiss scene of elise and sonic i think... everyone can agree that this scene needs to get abolished!
It's... honestly cringe.
English script is bad.
Nope. It’s a beautiful scene.
The only issue I have with Elise, is that kids that happens right in front of Amy. If someone added the rest of the game, to Project 06, all they need to do is get Elise to kiss Sonic on his forehead, instead of his lips and the issue would disappear.
There’s nothing wrong with it on the lips.
@@HynotamaAmy isn’t owed anything.
Also this is way better than any Penders couple.
Elise is better as a human.
Maybe Shadow's cinematic ending for the last story could have that tease for Mephiles.
imo Sonic should just stop trying to be what it used to be, and become something better. they had their chance and they failed, they're only hurting themselves by focusing so much on past successes
we have project 06. an official remake is unnecessary and probably wouldn't even be as good
I agree
but p 06 is only for pc meaning many other people can't play it for there self like me so I think they should make a remake but maybe if I had the opportunity to play p 06 maybe I would agree
W vid though
@@goldmwashita9680 If there already is a remake of 06 then SEGA should't remake/remaster a worse version of it. It would be a waste of resources and time for another project. Also, you don't need an entire desktop pc to play Project 06, even a macbook or maybe even a chromebook could run it.
@@goldmwashita9680 😊 Thanks
Well, maybe if they allow the cameraman and us to look away on the INFAMOUS kiss scene, half the reason this game is the butt of the joke, maybe...
lol grow up dude, or are you just jealous of Elise 😂
There's no reason to do that.
Not the ian flynn rewrite please 😭😭😭😭😭😭
It doesn't matter which writer they pick, the game will be changed.
ian flynn's the best thing to happen to sonic's narrative, fym
@@MastaGambitnope.
7:00 now you just need to come around on Chris by watching Japanese version of Sonic x (jk)
Too much time investment....
@@TheRealMightyEmperorIt’s worth it trust me. Season 3 in Japanese is peak Sonic.
They just need to change the controls and Sonic’s story and we’re good
Sonic’s story doesn’t need changing.
My reasons:
1. I've never played the original
2. I'd love to see more boost adventure hybrid like Shadow Generations
3. It would do so much for the franchises reputation
When I found out the reviews it was far too late to sway my opinion

Huh?
