Oh my god I’m so mad! Not at you, of course lol. But literally two weeks ago I was trying to make pants literally exactly like these!!! I wanted to practice pleats in the waist but then I ended up just doing four darts in the front. But then I realized the waist was too small for me to do an elastic so I would need to insert a zipper but I didn’t want to just add the zipper...I wanted a zipper fly. But I don’t know how to make one (or at least I’ve never done it). So those pants aren’t complete but lo and behold here you are making the pattern I needed and the secret was making the waist and hips the same width 😭😭😭😭 Welp now I have to salvage that project in another way cause I can’t recut the fabric (only had a yard *really long sigh* But this was great lol. At least I can just redo my pattern for future projects
So sorry to hear about your predicaments Renea. I believe one of the best ways to learn is from our errors and experiences. Funny enough, I made the same mistake as you a few months ago and realised how to fix the issue. Hopefully in the future, you get the opportunity to make your pants the way you wanted them.

hello, Just wanted to ask, why are we making the waistband in box shape like that? not curved? i was always taught to do it curved. Just curious, so that i understand. lol. Your videos have been helping me a lot by the way. I went to school for fashion design several years ago, then changed and did accounting (weird right?), then realized I hate accounting and i shoud have stuck with fashion LOL. between old notes, my old texts, and ur videos... its slowly coming back to me and I am very happy! so thank you!
Would it be possible to make the waist band the added width of frill and waistband combined and then just put elastic in the lover part of the wider waistband? Would that be a problem somehow? (I love your tutorials.)
You can cut the elastic channel & frill as one piece, like you said. I tried this method in this tutorial and it worked th-cam.com/video/ed_aq_kmIKY/w-d-xo.html

The fit of the trouser is loose and boxy, plus the waist band will become a channel for the strap along the waistline

As a matter of fact, you can. You just have to make the main trouser and the elastic channel for the waistband.
