How I Pack My Camp Storage Box - [ Everything Fits In ]

  • My camp storage box ideas might help you out when it comes to packing your camp box.
Having a camp storage box to pack all of you food, cooking gear and odds and ends are really handy. You can carry the camp box you need from your 4WD to where you are preparing meals.
My utensils camp box even has the kitchen sink, and i have taken advantage of the extra room in the lid to mount my plates, and a few sharp knives. Great idea and handy tips.
This tip is very handy, as it alloys easy access to those items and they aren't packed loosely in the bottom of the camp storage box.
When you are packing your camp box, you really need to think about how you pack the items inside. You only have a certain area that you have available to use for your camp gear. I have my camp box packing so finely tune, that i only take away what i need.
At the end of a camp trip, i take my camp food box inside my house and unload what food needs to come out. This is a great idea for the food box, and then the food box is repacked when Im going on the next camp trip.
I have four camp storage boxes and each box is a different colour. That way i know what is inside each box without having to label them. That's a great idea for quick and easy identification.
All of my camp kitchen items fits into one box. That box stays in the back of my 4WD and i take out what i need to cook with.
I would be very keen to hear from you, and if you are using a camp storage box for your camping and food.
What camp box ideas have you got?

Hi Tim, ive followed you for some time and have come to the conclusion you have the best channel for me. There are other channels that concentrate on their new expensive, beut vehicles and bolt on toys. As grown men they are really only boys, never content in life.!!!

You've come up with a really awesome rear setup for a Patrol. I'll be copying a lot of it, so thanks for the inspiration.
You've made upgrades to your aluminium security mesh cargo barrier since your "Customising My GU PATROL Interior" video (you've put a frame around it and a middle supporting bar).
Did you DIY, or take it to a fabricator?
Did you make any content on this process? I've been watching your videos for ages, but haven't noticed you discussing this.

      Gday mate,
That’s great you have found setup in the back of my Patrol helpful for setting up your Patrol.
      With the mesh screen.
I cut the mesh out myself and took it to a metal fabricator to weld the strengthen frame around it.
It’s not an approved cargo barrier, that’s why I haven’t filmed it.

Great vid mate, I’ve scrolled through a lot of the comments but I’m wondering what brand boxes they are? Cheers

  • @karl4834
    @karl4834 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Those Expedition 134 boxes are stupid expensive...but I have two and love them. Unlike any other box I've used, completely dust and water proof. But more importantly, pest proof. After leaving my previous boxes outside at camp and finding critters in them the next day, I didn't want to eat anything from that box, hence my justification at paying the big dollars for a plastic box. Moreover, I have a NW Pajero and it has underfloor storage in the back where I put all my rarely used items, so a draw system would basically leave that spot useless, whereas being easily able to remove boxes on the rare occasion I might need tools or spares from under the rear floor makes my system more workable.
As you note, Batesy, the different colours helps with organisation.
I'm going to buy at least one more to better streamline my set-up and, due to their inherent strength and stackability, with 3 I can make them into a set of steps to reach hard to reach stuff on my roof rack when at camp.

    • @timbates4wdadventures
      @timbates4wdadventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      G'day Karl,
They do cost a bit of money, but you sure get quality with the boxes.

    Hi Tim.
    Another great video of course.
Just wondering where you got the storage boxes you are using, if you are aloud to say.
I have a single draw in the back of the ranger, which i usually have all my tools, jack compressor etc in , which leaves me room for my mobility scooter, and ramps, when i am round town .
Once in camp mode the free side is good for something like your camp boxes. I have been messing about with different box options, but like yours .

Lots of food for thought there batesey! I have spent a shitload of time and money building my drawers so there would be a few tears if I removed them . . . . .but you'd be saving about 200kg without drawers and fridge slide I'd imagine. . . . .
My 90 series Prado is a bit obese ATM . . . . Went over a weighbridge recently and was kinda shocked just how close to GVM I was . . . . And I wasn't even fully loaded for a trip . . . . . Think there might be some tears coming my way 🤣😂😅😜

Great tips on this Tim, especially the one for the food box. I've made the move from having all my gear in one big storage box to 3 smaller boxes. Separated different type of items on different boxes. The boxes I use are the Tactix Modular Toolbox system from Bunnings. I like the 2 drawer modular tool chest. I use it as my cutlery and tableware box. ☺
But after watching this video I might have to review my food box. I'd laterally packed everything that "I think" I need. ☺

Tim, I love the storage lid idea. I am still in the process of sorting out what I want and need. I have put a set of Titan draws into the back of my 80 series and put tools and some other items into them but due to Covid not yet been able to go out camping but I'm itching to go. I have been watching your channel for a while and you have some great ideas. I love that your not buying all the expensive stuff and toys like the young kids are doing with their $$$ basic is to me the idea and necessity is more of the reason of what I want to take, only what I need. Another great video. Thanks Tim.

Great Vid, I'm late to watching it, but it was the right timing for me. Just onto my 5th 4x4. I have had draws in the first 3, but boxes in the last 2. (wagon and now ute) the boxes are better for my set up. (Me and my boy, just me.... or sometimes the Mrs comes along and messes with the whole set up and we just give up and take the camper trailer....) I appreciate draws are better for others, but I like to pull out the separate boxes at camp and have everything there on hand. With draws, I am the only only that remembers where the 'xx' is when everyone wants it. With boxes, everyone can pour over them and get what they need without asking me. I use 3 bigger boxes (kitchen, Pantry and 'everything else'). Good videos mate. thanks for posting. G

I use boxes in boxes in the back of the triton. Very much similar to your setup. After a trip I bring in the kitchen & food boxes. Rewash everything. Reload the non perishables ready for the next trip.
To easy and makes getting ready to to on the next trip stress free because I know that everything in the boxes is good to go.
Sorry I do have a fruit n veg and breed box and the fridge gets loaded.
I will carry up to 70ls of fresh water on outback trips.

Fab organisation. I use a photographer's backpack for all my cooking gear, including a fabric sink. Light and compact but no camp oven as yet. I have two small but tall tubs for my pantry, one takes cans and tinfoil, the other has spreads, bread, dry biscuits, herbs condiments, flour and sauces. Just keeps the weight down for easy handling for me, also fits in my boot well. I have storage bags for tent pegs etc but I have designated places that stuff goes into my boot, for easy access. Behind the front passenger seat is my 15 litre fridge. very small table and compact light kitchen bench and camp stool, go on the back seat, behind the passenger seat, held in place with a seat belt. I have a lithium battery that goes in the passenger footwell that runs my fridge. Very basic, but works for me.

Great video, thanks for sharing your setup 👍 great usage of space in the lid. So the inner layer of the lid is somehow removable? Can't see the cords from outside, so you must have pulled them in somewhere inbetween?
We're running a cabin on a Defender and use open plastic boxes inside the drawers and shelfes to keep things bundled and organized. Need to wrap stuff in towels to minimize rattle noises. Works a treat 👍

      G'day mate,
Using the lid for storage is very handy for what i keep in that space.
I drilled holes through the plastic ribs and threaded the cord through and pulled tight so it holds those items in place.
Stopping rattles is great if you can pack things in between with towels ect. Top idea.
      Thanks for your feedback.
      Cheers Tim.

Some good tips here, thank you. I’m guessing the roof rack can carry all the garlic? Sorry, I had to ask :)

Amazing just how similar our setups regarding the boxes has turned out really.
I was given an el cheapo promotional wine and cheese thingo that has soft sides, a zip all the way around and various elastic loops and things inside which holds all my cutlery, cooking implements, small cutting board etc.
I can jam it all in, zip it up and jam it in amongst the other stuff and nothing rattles. Also if we just go out for the day and want to make a cup of tea or whatever with my Companion hiking stove I can just grab the whole lot quickly and easily.
Now just hanging out to get away and try it all out.
Thanks for the video as usual mate, very informative.

I have a amarok, so I built 3 long wooden boxes, the length and height of the wheel arch in the tub. Then 4 smaller ones the fit on top across the 3 in the bottom.
That fits all the camping gear, clothes and food for family trips. And I also still have room for the fridge, arkpak, toolbox. Some ratchet straps holds it all down and secure

Sounds like a great set up mate in the back of your Amarok.
Well thought out for the gear you take away.
      Cheers Tim
