  • This is the most detailed record of Wood Brothers Racing history & museum artifacts ever captured on film! The sons of patriarch Glen Wood (Eddie and Len) have lived the life since they were born and have a story for EVERYTHING in this incredibly put together museum! It is not your typical quiet museum, as original team member Leonard Wood still has his active workshop here for his famous mini carburetors, engines, and radio controlled cars! This amazing pocket of NASCAR history in Stuart Virginia is a must see for any gear head. The longest continually operating race team in NASCAR started with a shed and pulling engines out under a Birch Tree branch. The iconic 21 car has been on the track for the better part of 60 years always powered by Ford Motor Company.

You know we don’t make long videos unless it’s worth it. The Wood family are some down to earth good people and excellent stewards of their own history. They have one amazing place set up here and we hope anyone watching this is able to see it for themselves! This video could easily be twice as long!

My wife and I were there back in April, our first visit. After seeing your video, I can't wait to go back. We didn't have the guided tour you did though. Nice to know the story of many of the items you asked. We did see Leonard at distance. He was working on an orange tractor in the far back left of the shop. I did spend nearly an hour talking with Benny about the mini Boss he and Leonard are working on. Can't wait to return in the spring to check the progress on it.

Mitchell your videos are great. I am 62 now and back in 1976 myself, cousin and uncle drove to Stuart to the Woods shop it was a non race week and Lenard and one other guy was there. He gave us a personal tour it was awesome. I believe they only had two cars back then unlike today. And just about a week ago I ran into Kerry Earnhardt at the Lowes, helped him load abound 8 sheets of plywood and talked about how he spoke at my sons 5th grade Dare graduation. He did not have to spend 30 minutes talking to me but we talked about trucks kids and some racing it was really good. These are memories that I will forever cherish. Again thank you

This is one of those videos where you are half-way into it when you suddenly become aware of having an overall good feeling and a grin, and then it dawns on you that you probably had the same feeling and grin going on since you began watching the video. And then you just settle in with the same good vibe for the second half to the end. In a word, awesome. Len is incredibly detailed in his memory. I have to wonder what gems Eddie was giving Logan. Logan needs a camera! At 89 years old, Leonard Wood is as productive as ever, with his sense of detail, his work should be considered art as much as function. You might want to mention about what was going on in the museum that generated the background noise captured while filming Len's commentary. Was all of that due to Leonard's crew! So cool.

    • @Stapleton42
      @Stapleton42  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

The kind of stuff you two do on this channel would have made for a great weekend TV program on TNN back in the 1990s. Though before your time, I am sure you heard of shows such as "Winners", "Inside Winston Cup Racing". and other similar shows that aired weekly on the channel back then. TNN was the place for NASCAR and NHRA fans during the 1990s. They aired tons of races and had all sorts of racing related programming. The behind the scenes stuff has been something sorely missing since the demise of TNN. I am very thankful you two are picking up the slack and actually going much more in-depth with your behind the scenes coverage. As a teen in the 90s, I used to put my TV on TNN on Saturday mornings and kept it there through Sunday evening. Now I have this channel to look forward to on the weekends!

I brought my family to the NASCAR Hall of Fame Museum about a year ago. It was really amazing.
Anything like this is great. I'm glad some of these good Ole boys had the brains to understand how important it was to save a good portion of the work that they accomplished back then so the next generation could enjoy and learn from it all. Car racing is a bit different than other sports because it's not just the people, it's the cars, too. You can take pictures of a great sports team, but that's all it is.
But the cars are different. You can save them as is post race, or restore to new. Either way, the car is parked for the next generation to go see, and touch, and learn from. Just my opinion, but I'm obviously biased....

🏆🏁This is Why I Love the Wood Brothers, There’s No Other Team Like Them in NASCAR🏁 I have been a fan since the Pearson Days! My first time I went to a nascar race was the 1974 Daytona 500 (actually it was a 450 mile race due to the “energy crisis”) and petty won the race, I live by the Daytona International Speedway and I have seen it all! I was in Victory Lane when they won in 2011🏁🏆 My Hero is Lenard! He is so incredibly intelligent! Nobody can make 1/2 scale anything from scratch, like him, not to my knowledge! The Wood Brothers have so much rich history and I enjoy this video! Just listening to Len and Eddie talking about the history is Priceless! My Son also grew up watching racing and he came back from the Military and went to the NASCAR Technical Institute and Graduateded number 1 in his class! He has been working for Legacy M C for over a year now and is now full time and professional licensed to work on the team! Truly A Dream Come True for our Family! From being spectators, to now competing for trophies🏆 he has a half scale one from Eric Jones win in Darlington! Maybe some day they can Win The Daytona 500!🏁PuzziCat

I was also there the day we lost Dale Earnhardt, I had a Hot Pass and took advantage of it and spent SpeedWeeks 2001 in the garage and pits. I have a close up picture of him and my son, in his IROC car on pit road before the race, and I spent half the 500 in big Es pit till it filled up with people. Then we went to Jr.s pit for the end of the race . Then it happened, It was the biggest AWWWwwww I ever heard in my life! Everyone in the grandstand screamed! We all thought he was going to be okay, as I made my way to Victory Lane and got in, I was sure I was going to get to see him,but when Ken Shrader showed up, I knew it wasn’t good. I didn’t find out the truth until I got home. And the rest is History! PuzziCat

I'm 70 now & I've been a Ford fan for 54 years. The Wood Brothers has always been one of my most favorite teams. My friend & i went to one of the MI races in '77. We were almost at the end of the straightaway, before going into turn one. As David was was coming down,we would throw up our arms, waving at him. Once in awhile, he'd take his right hand off the wheel & wave at us! That Boss 429 had a distinct sound, all it's own! He dominated the race & went on to win it! That was the only race i was ever able to attend in person. What an unbelievable experience it was, something I'll never forget for the rest of my life. It's sad to see the founding brother's are no longer with us. Including several of the great drivers that raced the famous #21 & the #121! Hopefully someday, they'll be back to being a weekly contender to winning. Either way, I'll always be cheering for the #21 & all of the other Fords.❤

I have really, really enjoyed these Wood Brothers videos! I remember growing up reading books about the good old days of nascar, I read a book called King Richard the first, that got me hooked on anything I could find on NASCAR, I really lost my love for it after Dale died, just isn’t the same anymore

2 days ago (Monday December 11th) was Morgan Shepherd 37th Christmas Charity trip. And he stop here before they go to the PRAC Workshop and stop to see everyone. I got a picture of all of Morgan family who was there (Morgan, Wife Cindy, Daughter Cindy and Shanda) with Glenn and Bernece Wood and Eddie. I took the picture before like a month before Glenn died in December 2018. I been here 2-3 times when I go up with his charity. A lot of history and we get a tour by both Glenn when he was alive and Eddie.

What a great detailed video of the Wood Brothers History. Someone needs to produce a movie of this incredible family's history. I am from Virginia and have visited Stuart many times and most people do not realize how remote and rural Stuart is/was back in the 50's, 60's and 70's and to achieve what these guys did was truly amazing.

Thanks to you two for bringing these great WOOD BROTHERS videos to this guy in NZ. I still remember my Philippine second wife's (only had 2, by the way), introduction to NASCAR being Trevor Bayne winning the Daytona 500 back in 2011. Pretty much the only time she's ever been interested in a motor race !!

I am speechless! I want to say I had go-cart in early 60's with kick start Maytag motor and mowed our lawn with mower mentioned near end of video. Kudos to Woods for saving all this history and especially to person that took pictures. Cameras weren't prevalent at all in early days. Once again thanks Mitchell and Logan for taking me down memory lane.

I haven’t even got past them talking about the shirts yet and I’m losing my mind with awesome NASCAR history overload. Thank you, thank you, thank you, to you and Logan for this and everything else you do. Even if I had the ability to get to the Wood Bro’s Museum, I would never get this level of tour and information. Also, it’s very weird that as I watch, I poise a question in my head and then you ask it. Like the Shelby shirt tag… I told my wife, ‘dang it, I think Mitchell is in my head.’😂 Anyway, back to the video…

Love the Wood Brothers. I don't know if I have done it on your channel yet, so I may be repeating myself about David Pearson as statistically the best NASCAR driver. Less than 600 starts with 105 wins gives him the best win/loss ratio %age of any driver. 3 championships and he didn't run full seasons for a good portion of his career. A lot of his success is because of Wood Brothers Racing. I am looking forward to that 100th win.

Outstanding Racing History Video! It could be 3 hours long I would watch All Of It ! I just so happen to be wearing my New Boom Tube Tee Shirt while watching this. The 1965 Indy win changed the 500 forever, rear engine cars since, 1964 A.J. Foyt was the last to win in a roadster. The Wood Brothers have had all the greats in the seat of thier cars.
Thank you for all the Video and in this case lack of edit work.

I have a picture of me sitting the 21 Merc while it was being prepped for the next race that season.
