You know we don’t make long videos unless it’s worth it. The Wood family are some down to earth good people and excellent stewards of their own history. They have one amazing place set up here and we hope anyone watching this is able to see it for themselves! This video could easily be twice as long!

My wife and I were there back in April, our first visit. After seeing your video, I can't wait to go back. We didn't have the guided tour you did though. Nice to know the story of many of the items you asked. We did see Leonard at distance. He was working on an orange tractor in the far back left of the shop. I did spend nearly an hour talking with Benny about the mini Boss he and Leonard are working on. Can't wait to return in the spring to check the progress on it.

Kudos to Jon Wood and Stapleton 42 for making this happen. That building is full of trophies because of how they treated people for 7 decades. Look at the reverence they have for the people, the sport and the cars. They should be writing books on leadership and character. World class examples of fine people.

Mitchell your videos are great. I am 62 now and back in 1976 myself, cousin and uncle drove to Stuart to the Woods shop it was a non race week and Lenard and one other guy was there. He gave us a personal tour it was awesome. I believe they only had two cars back then unlike today. And just about a week ago I ran into Kerry Earnhardt at the Lowes, helped him load abound 8 sheets of plywood and talked about how he spoke at my sons 5th grade Dare graduation. He did not have to spend 30 minutes talking to me but we talked about trucks kids and some racing it was really good. These are memories that I will forever cherish. Again thank you

🏆🏁This is Why I Love the Wood Brothers, There’s No Other Team Like Them in NASCAR🏁 I have been a fan since the Pearson Days! My first time I went to a nascar race was the 1974 Daytona 500 (actually it was a 450 mile race due to the “energy crisis”) and petty won the race, I live by the Daytona International Speedway and I have seen it all! I was in Victory Lane when they won in 2011🏁🏆 My Hero is Lenard! He is so incredibly intelligent! Nobody can make 1/2 scale anything from scratch, like him, not to my knowledge! The Wood Brothers have so much rich history and I enjoy this video! Just listening to Len and Eddie talking about the history is Priceless! My Son also grew up watching racing and he came back from the Military and went to the NASCAR Technical Institute and Graduateded number 1 in his class! He has been working for Legacy M C for over a year now and is now full time and professional licensed to work on the team! Truly A Dream Come True for our Family! From being spectators, to now competing for trophies🏆 he has a half scale one from Eric Jones win in Darlington! Maybe some day they can Win The Daytona 500!🏁PuzziCat

I was also there the day we lost Dale Earnhardt, I had a Hot Pass and took advantage of it and spent SpeedWeeks 2001 in the garage and pits. I have a close up picture of him and my son, in his IROC car on pit road before the race, and I spent half the 500 in big Es pit till it filled up with people. Then we went to Jr.s pit for the end of the race . Then it happened, It was the biggest AWWWwwww I ever heard in my life! Everyone in the grandstand screamed! We all thought he was going to be okay, as I made my way to Victory Lane and got in, I was sure I was going to get to see him,but when Ken Shrader showed up, I knew it wasn’t good. I didn’t find out the truth until I got home. And the rest is History! PuzziCat

When you got the 1:23 minute where Len was talking about the milling the head away on the exhaust port, I remember I worked at a machine shop in Kennesaw GA where we did the same thing for Ernie Elliott. The Wood Bros. Museum is on absolutely on my "list" to visit. It's got to be the greatest collection of NASCAR & racing ingenuity on the planet. You guys did a great job covering it in this vid ! Now i'm CERTAIN Mr. Leonard Wood was responsible for the SIGNIFICANT body "refinements" to the huge 1971 Purolator Mercs. that won aplenty. I'd love for him to show me so i can modify my own 1/25 scale Purolator Merc. more "realistic" to the real car that ran in 1973.

The kind of stuff you two do on this channel would have made for a great weekend TV program on TNN back in the 1990s. Though before your time, I am sure you heard of shows such as "Winners", "Inside Winston Cup Racing". and other similar shows that aired weekly on the channel back then. TNN was the place for NASCAR and NHRA fans during the 1990s. They aired tons of races and had all sorts of racing related programming. The behind the scenes stuff has been something sorely missing since the demise of TNN. I am very thankful you two are picking up the slack and actually going much more in-depth with your behind the scenes coverage. As a teen in the 90s, I used to put my TV on TNN on Saturday mornings and kept it there through Sunday evening. Now I have this channel to look forward to on the weekends!

Outstanding Racing History Video! It could be 3 hours long I would watch All Of It ! I just so happen to be wearing my New Boom Tube Tee Shirt while watching this. The 1965 Indy win changed the 500 forever, rear engine cars since, 1964 A.J. Foyt was the last to win in a roadster. The Wood Brothers have had all the greats in the seat of thier cars.
Thank you for all the Video and in this case lack of edit work.

Took me three-days to get thru all this, but it was worth it ! Like many other long term NASCAR fans, the Woods Brothers Racing is still my favorite team ! The wizardry of "Uncle Leonard" has been long known, but until now, few of us knew fully what a wizard he was and still is . Fantastic interview ! I am amazed, Mitchell, at your skills at getting people to open-up and talk freely about about their histories and endeavours ... both in this interview and all your other interviews and tours. I'm sure many other interviewers would be jealous at your abilities . I am looking forward to more of your content, and I am looking forward to watching the Woods Brothers Number 21 in the 2024 Cup series -- Good Luck to All !

I finally finished watching this episode. Back in the day all sign painters created their own style or font. There was no card of font styles to choose from. Any of them could look at a sign and tell by the style exactly who did it. It was the same for me back when I was a draftsman. We had a certain way we had to draw or letter but you develop your own style. I could look at a drawing and tell who did it. That was all back when we actually drew on paper with a pencil. Computers killed all that. This is the absolute best video you all have done especially for the historical content. All the anecdotal stories are priceless and you have them recorded on video for anyone to experience.

What a great video documentary, the Wood Brothers are iconic in the NASCAR industry, I'm willing to bet there are NASCAR fans (younger) that don't know who the Wood Brothers are and hopefully they watch this video and find out, there was a moment during this video that really got me a little choked up and I think that's the first time that's happened during one of your video's (can you guess when?).
Mitchell and Logan you two are amazing, keep doing what you do we can't thank you enough for everything you do.

Leonard Wood is a true, living automotive genius. I really believe if he wanted to build a spacecraft to go to the moon he could do it by himself out of parts he made. I’m truly in awe of him. He has to be the smartest person I have ever seen or even heard of.

Thanks for the video! As a child, my dad and I went to the old shop many times as he worked in the area from time to time. I have a picture of me sitting the 21 Merc while it was being prepped for the next race that season. Now that I see it is in their museum, I will be making the trip to try to replicate the picture as an adult. Thanks again Mitch!!!

Thanks so much for sharing this with us. Growing up and watching them back in the late 60's and early 70's race was a spectacle. It seemed the race was always between the Wood Brothers, the Pettys, and the finish line.

This video is golden, It is a 10 out of 10. The Wood Brothers were some of my boyhood heroes, as were all of their drivers. Well done! Our family saw the 1971 car at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum several years back. One of the most iconic race cars in NASCAR history. Thank You!

I'm 70 now & I've been a Ford fan for 54 years. The Wood Brothers has always been one of my most favorite teams. My friend & i went to one of the MI races in '77. We were almost at the end of the straightaway, before going into turn one. As David was was coming down,we would throw up our arms, waving at him. Once in awhile, he'd take his right hand off the wheel & wave at us! That Boss 429 had a distinct sound, all it's own! He dominated the race & went on to win it! That was the only race i was ever able to attend in person. What an unbelievable experience it was, something I'll never forget for the rest of my life. It's sad to see the founding brother's are no longer with us. Including several of the great drivers that raced the famous #21 & the #121! Hopefully someday, they'll be back to being a weekly contender to winning. Either way, I'll always be cheering for the #21 & all of the other Fords.❤
