My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they'll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. I can't understand how he hasn't had his phone stolen.... at least 5 times a week. I've been to Paris a few times and the thieves will snatch the phone out of your hand! So, how Jay can just leave his phone metres is just crazy.

I like the inside look at your techniques! As someone who always imagines myself doing this it's nice to have some pointers in the event I decide to do it one day, even if just for better personal travel videos for memories

Great tips! Good audio is *SO* important.
Just wanted to add- next step up from phone is the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. Small, good autofocus and it can track you. Also, a good enough NLE that is all in the cloud is CapCut.
Great video as always! One correction on iPhones, you can set a Photographic profile on the Camera app and tweak it to prioritize whatever tone and warmth you want. So photos and videos taken can be very similar to that of Samsung or other Android phones if that is something someone prefers. But it is different than a filter as this is a setting you can tweak before the fact and everything taken afterwards will be in this style.
I do like Samsung's emphasis on contrasting colors, so my setting is similar to that 😎 But thanks again for the video! I learned a lot! 🙂

Oooooh, just ordered the Kenu stand, that's awesome! Thank you for that!!! I loved my MacBook Air for years but because they don't have a built in fan it just got too hot and struggled, so I upgraded to the Pro. It is so much heavier tho, I hope I don't regret it!
Yeah, the pro upgrade would be great for the fan but I love how portable the air is. Hard to let go 😆

I love seeing the behind the scenes and I am quite surprised about the high video quality coming from a Samsung smartphone (I have not used them since the Galaxy S3)
And it survived daily vlogging after already owning it for almost a year. Sturdy device
Samsung Galaxy phones are the best for photos and videos.
Ive been wondering what you mount the phone on. I've just got one for myself. On a side note, i never get stressed by any TH-camrs, except you. I dont know how you haven't lost a phone either by missing a train door or thievery.

this is so useful, thank you Jay. I was curious as to why you don't record the audio onto your phone using the DJI, wouldn't that save you editing time, as the audio track would be part of the video as you edit it?

Just ordered the Kenu - thanks for the discount code!. Also trying DaVinci Resolve. I need to edit GoPro video for cycling rides Windows Movie Maker is actually still available and it is super easy, but very limited. Thanks for the tip on DaVinci as well!

@@JaySwanson Using the Kenu MahSafe ring on the case for my Android - allows the Kenu Stance to work, but now the stand up wireless charger doesn't work - the flat wireless charger does work. Thoughts? Advice? Haven't tried DaVinci yet - video editing software seems quite daunting, actually!

You notice when I leave in me saying "Click clack"? That's me setting a sync point on both tracks in the laziest way possible 😆

This was super helpful. What would you recommend for moving files from the Samsung to you Mac?
I have an app, android for Mac I think (out and about atm so can't check) but it's free for the read only version which works great for me. It can be a bit slow (like 20-30min to transfer files, over half of that spent "calculating") but otherwise I had no issues getting my files over to edit. The iPhone 11 I used to make the parts of this video where I showed the Samsung actually caused more problems 😆

Only out of surprise thinking I'd forgotten it 😆 People are generally kinder or more oblivious than you might assume
So I always wondered, how do you get the shots of you leaving the train? Or getting on the train and the doors close!? It just seems unreasonable that you’d just leave your camera in the metro station, but besides having an assistant, I don’t know how else you’d do it.
Ah, okay, so you must be so far away from the Eiffel Tour to get it entirely on screen while filming! Thanks. Oh, and great video, as always. Personally, I am more of the "big beefy camera and gear" faction, but your videos look so good that I don't even think about how you film them. Only sometimes do I wonder how you film yourself leaving the metro train without losing your camera each time?
It was a great post. I use Final Cut Pro for iPod. It is $5 per month or $49 annual. (I also have a FCP for mac). I use a Sony for pictures, the lense cost more than the body. 😂. I am trying out a DJI Osmo Action 4 on my next France trip. Have you looked at them. So far better than GoPro. I too want to see you jump on and off and on the metro. 😂. 🌴🌴Aloha

I have the 23 Ultra. I haven't used the 24 yet but I don't think there's a convincing reason for me to upgrade, personally
Many thanks for responding. @@JaySwanson I'm still on DJI Pocket 2 but was thinking of upgrading to Pocket 3 because I do a lot of walking and talking but will look at the 23 Ultra as well.
The pockets are super smooth, but it's a trade-off for having the extra gear on hand. If that doesn't bother you then it might be worth it but I haven't used my pocket in years now

Oh no Jay. Cop eating grass is not a good thing. He may need a vet check up. Dogs sometimes chew on grass to heal a malady.
Either grass or the bunny poop in the grass. My dogs always found rabbit poop in the spring.
