Id like to think that with that much clay it would act as a huge heatsink also. It will take awhile to heat up but hold it for a while too. Your going to stay warm this winter.
This is EXACTLY what I have been scouring bushcraft videos for. I have seen magnificent shelters and magnificent fireplaces. But never both together. I know where you are you don't have to worry about below freezing weather do you think the design would scale up for a larger fireplace for longer hotter fires? I would think that once the clay sets there should be no issues, I was just wondering what you think. Thanks for the uploads, I sincerely appreciate them.
Yes, there is no reason why this shouldn't scale. The two main factors, I'm finding, are that the easier the exhaust moves through these the better and cracks need to be pached up as the whole thing dries.
Finally the fire in the house not outside the wall with just a little hole. Love how you made that clay pipe
That is an excellent upgrade! I would suggest extending the top end of the exterior pipe several centimeters so it makes a little rain guard.
