Hello my friend! Sorry to have been absent from your channel, working 40 hours a week on videos, and 40 to pay the bills...so refreshing to spend time with you again. Congrats on your new hiking partner, and thanks for sharing your Dash!!! - Davey.
No problem Davey! Editing videos can be time consuming. I watched one of your recent videos of a big trip you had just started and need to check out some of the other videos.
My first night with Birdie, when she was a young pup, she also climbed under my quilt and curled up against the small of my back! Great video Bryan, and wonderful to see Riley as well! Tom
Thanks Tom! Last weekend I took Riley on another two night trip and she slept in my quilt again. Not sure how this will work out when she gets bigger. It may be difficult to prevent her from sleeping on top of my quilt.
Great hike….and with a new pup! You enjoy being outside with no "roof" over your head. The trail wasn't "ruff" either. Beautiful "bark" on the trees. 😂Thanks for sharing🥾⛺️🐶
Congratulations on the new pup, I think you'll enjoy having Riley as a companion, on the trail, on your travels and around home. Looks like he's bonded well with you. And thanks for the scenery.
Some fantastic views of the gorge with the river flowing in this one, Bryan. You wore that pup out, but if she sticks with you, she's going to be a heck of a hiker.
Thanks Larry! She has now joined me on three backpacks. Also she trail walks with me daily in a park close to home. So she's getting in pretty good shape.
Wonderful to see this Wilderness Area! I wish we lived closer to I could hike some of the places you visit. We’ve still got lots of rain and snow in the mountains so I’ve just been day hiking. Loved seeing all the flowing water, sounds so refreshing … Rylee is adorable! She’s a great hiker for her age, she seems so quiet too, she’ll grow up loving to be on trail. Fun that she wanted to sleep snuggled up! 👌💕💕
You live about as far away from the southern Appalachians as possible and still live in the lower 48 states. She's a very sweet puppy, but she's getting to big to sleep under my quilt and I'll have to figure out how to get her to sleep on her own pad.
Thanks Nicole! You should check out Bald River Gorge sometime, although access will be much easier when the new bridge is completed. Right now Tellico River Road is closed near its beginning, about five miles below the bridge. Riley has a very good temperament.
Yeah a puppy!!! I can imagine that that hike took it our her! Another great hike! I'm sitting turning my heater on and you're out there hiking in shorts!
Thanks for the video. This area is one of my favorites in the whole of the earth. The Upper Bald Wilderness across the road from where you began is magical. Hope to run into you one day!
You're welcome Darrell! Bald River Gorge is very beautiful. I backpack in BRG and Upper Bald River Wilderness often, so if you see me please say hello.
Beautiful area, hope to do that trail soon. Riley is a lucky dog, she will get plenty of exercise hiking with you. Once again great video and happy trails!
Thanks Lauren! It's a beautiful trail, although access to the upper trailhead is more difficult than the lower trailhead. Oh yea she gets plenty of exercise not just from backpacking, but also daily walking trails close to my house with me.
Hey Tom! She stays with me while we're hiking, although she'll probably get a little more adventurous as she get older. Yes, Bald River Gorge is a beautiful area.
Heloooooo Riley Dog! I think you have a new awesome companion there Bryan. I tell ya...having a dog on the trail for a companion is the best. Gurantee she will never say "no" to a hike. Good stuff man. Congrats!
So excited you added a dog to your adventures! She seems like a real trooper, staying with you...she probably wonders why you keep backtracking... lol as always such a gorgeous place, the river and the rhododendrons! I guess they haven't flowered yet?
Congrats on the new pup! Looking forward to seeing more of Riley in future videos. I definitely want to check out the Bald River Gorge / Upper Bald River Wilderness areas at some point. I'm digging the tarp set ups. Looks like a tarp with 'doors'?
Thanks Outdoor Operator! I'll be taking Riley on more backpacking trips for sure. Bald River Gorge is very beautiful and not very crowded since the easily accessible lower trail head is closed. Upper Bald River Wilderness is great for solitude. This tarp is a Hammock Gear "The Journey" silpoly tarp with doors; 11' X 9.25'. I intend to use this tarp for warm weather backpacking and save the Duomid for winter.
Yes, it's kind nice backpacking there now with River Road closed. Been up there a couple times since they closed it. Got to see the bridge demo in a couple of stages. Have you given up on the doumid?
Lovely hike. Just curious why you don't have your pup on a leash. I thought to do so was to be respectful of the wilderness ( if not required) just like putting out your campfire, leaving no trace, getting permits when required.
Thanks Caroline! First, at 10 weeks old she does not do a leash. As soon as you put a leash on her she fights against it. Second, she never wonders off trail and stays with me while hiking. Third, leashes and permits are not required in this wilderness area or Cherokee National Forest. In fact during hunting season, hunters are allowed to use hunting dogs, which are not on leashes and run freely through the forest.
@@BryanDeLay Sorry, I looked at the regs on line for the Cherokee Nat Forest before commenting and it said dogs are allowed IF ON LEASH , unless they are used for hunting during hunting season. www.fs.usda.gov/detail/cherokee/home/?cid=STELPRDB5278398. I guess one can find whatever one wants on the internet. I have definitely run into hunting dogs off lead but they usually have electronic tracking collars. Out west many parks have resorted to no dogs allowed due to folks not keeping them on a leash.Super cute pup though!
Always good quality stuff from you Brian! What plans do you have for out west the year? I assume your son is gonna watch the puppy he gifted you while you're gone? :)
Thank you very much! Yes, my son is going to watch her when I go out west. A six week trip would be too much for her at this age. Plus my SUV is pretty full on these trip to the west, so I would be difficult to make room for her.
Chris, my DCF Trail Star wore out about 2 years ago when I bought the Duomid. I got this tarp about a month ago and I'm going to save my Duomid for winter backpacking.
👍👍😊😊💕💕🌹🌹❤❤👍👍👍👍I'm so happy for you! The dog will love you for ever!!!
Thanks bolleolympus! She is a very sweet dog and I'm enjoying her a lot.
What a beautiful gift of companionship from your son. Reilly , what a gorgeous pup and wish you many happy years of traveling
Thank you very much!

Aweome hike! The waterfalls were so pretty. Love your sweet dog Riley! She's adorable and good company on the trail. 🐾 Thanks for taking us along! ❤
Thank you! Lots of beautiful waterfalls in this gorge. Riley has a very good temperament.

Thanks jmash41! I certainly do enjoy backpacking. This trail is in good shape with just some short ups and downs.
Beautiful hike , very relaxing, thank you😊
Thanks for watching the video. Glad you enjoyed it.
Another wonderful video !! Thank you.
Thanks Mark!
Gorgeous area. Riley seems to be a well-behaved puppy. She stayed close to you and even slept with you. Awesome waterfalls.
Thanks SeniorHiker77. Well-behaved might be a stretch, but she stays with me when we are hiking.
Congratulations on the new pup, I think you'll enjoy having Riley as a companion, on the trail, on your travels and around home. Looks like he's bonded well with you. And thanks for the scenery.
Thanks John! She is fun to backpack with. Glad you enjoyed the video.
@@BryanDeLay Forgot Riley could be a female name too...

Hi Bryan
I absolutely love this place! Awesome job on your video! Thanks for sharing your adventure with Riley.
🦉
Thanks Danny! Bald River Gorge is small, but very beautiful.
Yeah a puppy!!! I can imagine that that hike took it our her! Another great hike! I'm sitting turning my heater on and you're out there hiking in shorts!
Yeah, she was one tired puppy! Now she's been on three backpacks and does much better and is much bigger.

Cute hiking companion!😀
Thank you!
Great video and really nice-looking dog.
Thank you Johnny!
Very Cool Bryan that you have a new pup hiking with you. My border collie Dexter is now 16 and going strong. We just got back from a hike today. 👍
Thanks Tom! Wow, 16 and still going strong. Sounds like you are enjoying living in SC.
