You don’t want that for a plants root system once it’s sealed whole point of using clay pots for plants is the oxygen exchange through the clay moisture evap ext this ruins that most certainly

Maybe, however we've done it with dozens of pots over the years and there all performing well, I'd of though it gets plenty of Oxygen from above but I'm no garden expert.

Plants will thrive in just about any container as long as there is there are drainage holes. If anything clay pots allow your plant to dry out quicker.
