    Hi Everyone and Welcome Back To My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing tutorial.
    This time I have sewn the extremely wide legged pants version of this pattern. Tips include using twill tape to reinforce seams, how to know when to change a needle and definitely how NOT to hold a ruler when you use a rotary cutter. :) There is a very sneaky and tricky quirk in the pocket of this pattern that could cause grief if you are not careful... I know.
    Anyhow, I hope you like it.
    Marie

    Thank you for making this video. I have never looked for a video before making… something made me this time… phew! I definitely would have made that mistake on the pocket. I also learned loads of tips (ironing board, marking & more). Im looking forward to watching all your other videos!

    That style looks really good on you, and you definitely chose the right fabric. Thanks for leaving in your error and explaining how you fixed it. It does help those of us who are “sometimes sewers” to know that it is ok to misread or misunderstand pattern directions now and again. Most things can be fixed, even if they do involve a bit of stitch removal and restitching.

      Hello again Jean, yes I decided to leave it in because to me it looks like a mistake that would be easy to make. So I might as well show how to get out of it. The puzzles like that are part of the fun of sewing. Thank you for watching again😊😊

    Thank you for your video. I unfortunately only watched parts of it while sewing and did the same thing you did with the pocket. I then went back to your video where you explained what the problem was. I used your method of solving it by just adding on to the end of the waistband. I have made notes all over my instructions so as not to do this again as I will be using this pattern more than once. Thanks again for all the tips which helped me improve some of my sewing skills. I love this pattern!

      They really made it too easy to make that mistake. I think that adding a notation of the seam allowance would have been a nice thing to put on the pattern tissue, but we live and learn. Thank you so much for watching😊

    Thank you for this great video on this pattern! I just got my pattern in the mail today and can't wait to get a pair made. I am new to sewing so this will be my first try at making zipper bottoms. I will be watching this over and over as I work my way through making mine.

    Good tip about laying down the pieces on a flat surface. I always try to cheat and manipulate the pieces while they are in my lap so I can stay at the sewing machine..
    You are obviously an experienced seamstress because this pattern is not for a beginner. Even an intermediate sewer would find this a challenge. But you handled it well and the results are impressive.
    Thank you for this video

    They turned out brilliantly 😍 The changes in seam allowances seem like mantraps (womantraps?) to me, so well done for making it all work! I have made McCalls 7131 a couple of times, which is a similar concept but with an elasticated back, so it is much easier to construct. You have inspired me to make another pair in a lightweight denim or a chambray in a classic indigo colour, as it would go with so many tops. I hope your finger has healed now. Thanks for your very clear explanations and clever tips, and for being so inspiring 🙏

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You know there are so many patterns that have a similar design. I think the elastic back would make it more comfortable after dinner. And in general I think it is a great design. It is kind of mean in my opinion for them to throw that seam allowance on the pocket thing at us😂😁

There are so many great designers out there, I especially think you would love J Stern Designs and her TH-cam channel if you aren't already familiar with her. Also Love Notions patterns, I could go on and on but theirs so many and lots of them have great sales if you watch for them and discount codes from other TH-camrs.

    At the top of the instructions where they give you all the information does it say the seam allowances are 1 inch? Your culottes turned out so cute. I was sitting at the edge of my seat until you figured out what was wrong, you remedied the situation very well. I was afraid you would have to take the whole thing apart or not be able to use them after all that work.
