    Thank you for including Sad But True as part of the demo! Not enough metal is played as demo material - and that genre can really help to stress test certain qualities/metrics!

    • @georgedomse
      @georgedomse  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Absolutely. I found that many systems that sound great on jazz, vocals and other easy-going music tend to fall apart as soon as it comes to hard rock and metal. Guitars may sound weak, tinny, and the much praised "PRAT" of a lot of systems goes down the drain. In many cases, metal will highlight the shortcomings.

      @@georgedomse I would also suggest playing some Dimmu Borgir - it's got one of the densest yet most well mixed orchestra + metal music and is excellent to judge the resolving capabilities of any speaker!

    Both good but for different reasonns. The AE have that laid back softer British sound. With the AE the instruments are easier to place in the soundstage and music is not as fatiguing. I appreciate the detailed sound of the bass more in the 500. Dali has the brighter, more forward, presentation giving you that impressive live sound. Volume in the presentation a little off. For longer listening periods give me the AE 500. I own a few older Dali speakers. Maybe I just like the sound change.

    I do like the AE500' but they cost nearly double the Dali in America right now. I also can't help but think the Dali sound is affected more by how close the sidewalls are more than the ae500's. I think the Dalis would sound more neutral in a bigger room. The Dalis definately rock better than the ae's.

    Dali пытается понравиться и все их звучание преследует эту цель. Это прекрасно безусловно, но к верности звучания имеет мало общего. Бас раздут, он объемен выше необходимого и местами прижимает слушателя. Искрящиеся высокие создают ощущение легкости и прозрачности, но эти ощущения обманчивы. Похожий эффект достигается включением тонкомпенсации на усилителе. Оппонент играет сдержаннее, спокойнее и точнее. Он не хочет понравиться, его цель иная. Вокал AE500 передаёт правильнее, без гулкости и провала, меньше образов, но больше музыки. Первый потрясает и рождает эмоции, второй располагает слушать и слышать музыку. По идеологии, подаче звучания AE500 ближе к Оптиконам.

    The mids blend so well with the HF on the 500s, I demoed them recently and the HF is just a big wow, I think honestly they maybe my next purchase, I don't have the Oberon 3s just the 1s very good little speaker, but the menuet se are just light years ahead, still my favourite nearfield speaker barr none . Acoustic energy make great speakers, the ae100 MK2 is insanely good for a budget price, my AE 301s still hang with the best at mid prices . Something moorish about the HF on the 500s .

    Not really a fair comparison the AE500s 5 inch woofer can not compete with the 7 inch woofer in the Oberon. The AE500 sounds thin and anemic in comparison.

    Thank you Metallica. This is how acoustics are tested. Not on Diana Kroll, but on Metallica). Objectively, when Hatfield began to sing, Dali's guitars faded into the background, and his voice remained in the foreground. And in the AE 500, both the voice and the guitars were heard at the same time. And Dali was also hummed. So for me AE is better).

    Both good, just different. At a VERY casual listen just now, they remind me of the differences I've observed in my Royd Minstrel Mk1 vs Royd Minstrel SE. Both good. Original Minstrel a bit lighter and brighter, and a bit unrestrained. SE's are more refined, more full, and more 'together', having a tighter, more complete and palpable sonic image, if a bit seemingly 'restrained' (they're not, really - just more controlled).
    I noticed the same differences between these two (although as said, I'm casually listening...there's a lot of other noise in the background atm, too, so take what I say with a grain of salt).

    • @georgedomse
      @georgedomse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a very tough question. As a package, yes. It has a decent DAC built in, a really clean and matter-of-fact sound, but I'm missing some warmth and tasty midrange in it. When it comes to sound, the Marantz PM-16 and the Rega Elex-R are neck-on-neck (see my latest comparison video), they are confident and warm-ish sounding without losing detail - but no digital section whatsoever.
      If someone would point a gun at me end force me to choose, I would go with the Marantz and a really good DAC (maybe a Gustard) and a decent streamer (Lindemann Limetree). I am not ready yet to spend more money on hifi gear.

      Interesting choices. How would you compare the Oberon 3 to say Lumina II for classical, particular piano and human voice? I would guess the Lumina would have tighter but less prominent bass and more delicate high end extension. Don't know which would have better mids, stage depth and separation though or which would sound more natural.
      I have the Opticon 1s and for desktop they're nice enough. Lots of detail with some rounding off on notes. I like much better than Dynaudio Emits which lacked transparency to me. Also have Focal w series and Triangle Zetas which highlight lots of inner detail in comparison. I am trying to find something smaller but still fairly robust for classical as a main. Preferably under 15 inches, ideally no more than 13 in. without going overboard on price. Thanks.

    Oberon 3 is way better than AE500, in every way. Clarity, sound quality and texture, it's not as delicate and refined as Oberon, stage is smaller, piano sound is less accurate (I play piano for decades, I tend to care about this), bass is soft and less controlled, on the edge of muddy (I am the type who generally doesn't care about bass at all, and pretty much dislike too much bass) . The result is a shock to me, because I kept seeing people say how good AE500 is, and Oberon 3 is not even my cup of tea!
