That's the same way I did mine. I removed a 16x32 inground , steel walls vinyl liner, and put half of it back together in my basement. I used my chopper gun for the first 3 coats, then hand laid 1/4" woven cloth for the finish. It took like 25 gallons of vinyl ester resin and 2 gal of epoxy pool paint. I also put the ceramic 6 inch waterline tiles all the way around. It's been 12 years since and never had any issues. I live it.
Mate this is a fantastic job and idea. I want to do the same thing. I only have 1 concern & that is how will it go when the timber rots away? It will probably just move 15/20mm
@@kresdubbin3541 Thank you. It was a concern about the wood rot which is why I bitumened the outside of the wood. But also the fiberglass is quite thick and so even if the wood does rot, it will still hold. I think 🤔
Im literally starting tomorrow. How many layers of fibreglass, how many Oz per sqft and how many coating of fibreglass hardener? Thank you for the video. Im in Miami,,, Ill keep you posted
Hi Marco, that's awesome! I used 2 layers of fiberglass. I used a 700 gram cloth and mixed according to the manufacturers spec. I do have another more detailed video of the same build. I'll find the link. Please keep me posted. I'd love to see how it comes out.
@@skotg406 Hi, what I did was to paint bitumen on the ply that is in contact with the ground. I also think that if it does rot away, the fiberglass is thick enough and strong enough to hold the water.
Hi Dave, what an excellent idea and video. I am situated in Cape Town. Could you provide me with a detailed material list and supplier info? Thanks Anthony.
Hi Anthony, the best will be to contact the supplier and tell him what you are doing. He'll ask for the size of your pool and advise you. The company is Composite and General. Zubair +27827865624 Please feel free to ask if you have any other questions
Wow that’s awesome ! And very clever

Well done, do you have any pics?
Got some somewhere, I'll have to find them.
Wow. Some elbow grease and you have a pool. 😁 I might attempt this.
Let me know if you need any advice. There is another video of the build here th-cam.com/video/eNvj4YxX8xQ/w-d-xo.html

Hi. Thats cool... is it durable and how mutch did that build cost? Nice vid btw.
It's just over 2 years old now and absolutely perfect. In South Africa it cost 13000 Rand. Just about 800-900 USD, excluding the pump

How has the pool been holding up?
How are you protecting the plywood from the ground contact? Won't that just rot away in a few years?
@@skotg406 Hi, what I did was to paint bitumen on the ply that is in contact with the ground. I also think that if it does rot away, the fiberglass is thick enough and strong enough to hold the water.
What type of paint did you use
It is called pool coat. It's like a colored resin. You mix a hardner with it
Thank you for answer I still undecided mine would be in contact with dirty and I wonder if the plywood will rot affecting the structure of the pool
@@chirris187 this one is also in contact with the dirt but I painted the wood with bitumen before I put it in place. 30 months later it's still fine
