- What a Day, Metal Detecting UK in the South East of England! Quite wild but that doesn't matter when you are finding Roman jewellery and Anglo Saxon Coins! And Medieval artefacts and other bits and pieces!!! All found with the XP Deus Metal Detector

It doesn't get much better than this! And It was good to get out and about participating in one of the great outdoor hobbies, metal detecting for lost treasure! Sadly I had to leave Tasciovanus (my trusty Jack Russell Terrier) behind but he makes an appearance back at Headquarters!
I haven’t given too many XP Deus tips or tips for metal detecting for beginners in this video but please feel free to leave a comment if you need to pick my brain over anything, especially if you are learning to use the XP Deus Lite.

It’s so funny that people get so worked up by a bit of coin rubbing when an artefact or coin has been often turned over yearly for centuries by metal blades , had endless dumplings of fertiliser, stamped and peed on by cattle, the list goes on… and then in the excitement we try to remove a little dirt with our soft fingers and it’s as if we have opened the gates of hell! 😂we will be wearing white gloves next

Seems every time there is a tad of adversity the relic gods smile upon us diggers. Cold, wind, heat, hard terrain, etc. When we lean into it we are rewarded. Seems to be the same for all we do in life as well. Great finds and something to be proud of. May be Setting the bar high to outdo on the next outing??? Thanks for sharing! Regards
I do worry about setting the bar a bit BC, and yes the Gods do tend to throw us crumbs when we need them but I didn't really need it that day… I would've been happy just with the broooch and those buckles and a coin or two! All the Best, Alexander

I sometimes think he's too intelligent Allan which gives him a very very strong mind but he really is turning out to be a brilliant dog; he gets very overexcited and I've noticed he gets very tough with other dogs but only if he is approached aggressively first... The holes in coins become they naild them on the door or on the counter.
It will say this coins are not accept or not any more.
They told me in the Netherlands, there we find them also with holes in it.

Oh my, the brooch, the Confessor....you would be forgiven if thinking that Confessor coin was minted last year! Just beautiful. It has been nice here the past couple of weeks. Temps have been in the 70s since my birthday last week. This morning I sat on my front porch and watched an inundation of Robins. One got really into his bath where I felt I should ask him if he would like a loofa and soap. Robins, cedar waxwings, tufted titmice, and lesser goldfinches. You would think it is spring. Plus the odd woodpecker. It was a noisy riot in the trees.
Gosh Cyndye I am very jealous about you seeing see the waxwings they are my one of my favourite birds though I've never seen them in real life I think we get a different type, Siberian one or something that occasionally makes its way over to the UK when winters are very bad in Russia ( or the East) - I hope you don't mind me saying so but I have several cases of stuffed waxwings! @@HolzHammerSagas I would love to see those waxwings you have. I look on the stuffed ones as preserved for posterity. I doubt any birds were harmed. Kind of like the taxidermy animals and birds in a museum. These that I have sport not only the strange waxy tips on wings and tail, but are a beautiful gray with black masks and back sloping head tufts. Very sleek looking. Texas has a huge area of cedar, or more accurately, Ash juniper. I am allergic to them so suffer every winter when they set pollen. Many times I have been spooked thinking my pasture was on fire, only to realize it was cedar pollen blown in the air. I had better be on my meds by then.

It's my best and favourite case that, the actual specimen is in such good condition and it's been beautifully mounted… it was found on the moors in North Wales and done by an excellent local taxidermist. Well done on your amazing finds .On one of your videos you said about don't disregard any of your fines after watching that video I went out on a club dig and found a gorgeous 17th century silver hawking vervel. Which looked nothing more then a washer so thanks for the advice 👍

I don’t mean to skite (yes I do), but I just managed to identify the Saxon penny before you spilled the beans at headquarters, though I thought it was a William the bastard at first. Great seeing your reaction when you dug it, you obviously had a good idea of what you had. Incredible condition out of that paddock. I hope there’s no burials, they might hop back up 😊.

Brilliant finds again Alexander, I’m finding lots of patterned spindle whorls up in North Wales but can’t find the hammered coins. I’ll keep going 👍
The only place I have ever found a patterned whorl is in N.Wales I thought they must be peculiar to there but they are not - lovely things to find though! Well done! I have found hammered too there so keep trying!!! All the Best, Alexander

Well Alexander you have gone and done it again with your fantastic find of a Saxon Penny, the Holy Grail for most detectorists! I am still looking for mine after 40 years of detecting. That is the great thing about detecting, there is always hope. 'We live in hope' should be our motto😄

Andy, I probably should've use the experts especially with a coin like that but I was very gentle and just eased it apart - it wasn't a very bad bend and if at any point I felt it "giving" I would've stopped… and it's not the best job but it will do! Nice Brooch Alex, I am sure most detectorists would love to find one like that. They are certainly not that frequently found. The loop was for a chain which joined a pair together, one on each shoulder. They were worn with the loop at the bottom so we generally show the Roman Brooches the wrong way up! Very nice Saxon coin there too. The holes in the coins were for keeping them on strings I read, notice the roughly punched hole to avoid losing too much weight. 👍

Well found Alex. 🙂. Lol after my 7 Cnuts had to be handed in and we were underpaid for the reward I have in my possession one other Saxon hammered penny I have found and that is the coin under yours in the Spink book number 1175 Edward the Confessor Small Flan Type. 😀. HH. 🙂.

It is such an odd field that John; I went back for about five hours a few days ago and found absolutely nothing I recorded all my digs and just had to delete everything and then I have a day like the one in the video here - I don't mind as it's a as it's quite nice not knowing what sort of day are you going to have! Keep using your ears Alex you know your Deus you know your program and what it's telling you and your finds are plentiful. Far to many users are relying on numbers these days and visual is and will always be secondary to audio. The brooch and obviously the Saxon was a joy to view. OMG more awesome finds. Congrats. Had the pleasure recently of holding a work mates James 1st silver, hammered, Christening coin. He's Irish. Can only imagine the thrill of finding and holding silver Saxon. Especially when it's in such fantastic condition. Very special indeed. Looking forward to seeing Tasky kill your gloves again. LOL
Yes, James I had an interesting relationship with the Irish I think and wow what a coin that must've been I suspect in very good condition! Brilliant as always Alexander! Amazing, beautiful coin. Can I ask.....what is your general 'go to' technique........do you wander more often than not, or are you a little more methodical? 👍
It's a bit of both SD - to be fair I always vaguely grid but don't do it in too regimented a fashion i.e. I know I'm not exactly covering every swing and then if I get bored I start wandering as I know I just wont enjoy it if the gridding becomes too much! But the main point is when I do religiously grid in a very regimented fashion and do it very slowly I definitely find a lot, lot less - Don't ask me why because I don't know! Well Jim I probably didn't do the best job on it but it wasn't a particularly bad bend so I just eased it apart a bit but I would've stopped if I felt it going wrong! I've done it lots of times with hammered coins and you can pretty much tell by the state of the metal whether it will take it or not I do you have a have a have a couple of coins that I wouldn't even try on!
