I don't care what it takes. If there is a merger between the Mountain West, Pac 12, etc... It needs to be called The Wild West.

Relegation is a complicated solution considering contracts, etc. The simple solution is reverting back to regional conferences each with a guaranteed playoff spot. A NIT like playoff could be created for the number two's. All conferences must play the same number of conference and OOC games and have an equal home and away... No more loading up on cupcakes at home SEC.
Best case scenario... Conferences play full round robin, OOC are exhibition games that do not factor into conference standings (W/L), playoff brackets are filled regionally first to minimize travel for athletes & fans. Bottom line, TAKE VOTING OUT OF THE EQUATION!
There are traditions worth continuing, and the recent realignments are nothing more than a money grab.

The reason this doesn't work is because college kids graduate. So, a group of 4's best year may be when they have a bunch of seniors and could actually play in the 12 team playoff with the power 4 but the following year they can't compete. It also kills recruiting. You're creating a lot of haves and have nots. I like that you're thinking though.

    ...
The second coast to coast conference, the first in all 4 time zones:
    Stanford,
    California,
    Tulane,
    Southern Florida,
    Connecticut (R1),
    Pittsburgh,
    Oregon State (R1),
    Washington State (R1),
    Utah,
    Arizona State,
    San Diego State (R2),
    Southern Methodist (R2).
(Duke and Syracuse likely next targets once the ACC explodes which is expected this week when FSU declares their departure.)
All Universities are AAU unless otherwise noted.

A better system would be to get rid of conferences altogether. Have 5 divisions instead. The first division has 16 teams with a 12 team playoff to determine the national championship. Bottom 4 teams are relegated to the second divisions. Second division has 20 teams. 12 team playoff with the top 4 from the playoff being promoted. Bottom 4 are relegated to the third division. Third division has 20 teams. 12 team playoff with top 4 from the playoff being promoted. Bottom 4 being relegated to the fourth division. Fourth division has 20 teams. 12 team playoff with the top 4 from the playoffs being promoted. Bottom 8 are relegated to the fifth division. Fifth division is 4 geographical divisions in the south, midwest, east, and west with 14-16 teams in each geographical division. Top 2 from each geographical division gets promoted. That would be the best promotion/relegation system for college football.

If it was a relegation / promotion system. You'd have to have teams play only conference games. No P4 vs G4 teams. It would be 12 sec or 12 b1g games in a season

Bruh vandy and northwestern are founding members of their conferences and have been with them for 100 years this just makes college football much worse, instead of Vanderbilt losing 7-8 SEC games it will be Troy except none of the players would have even signed up to get body bagged every game.

If the players don't want to stay in the SEC, let them transfer out.

You would then need the Champions league version. Where the top 3 of each P4 conference play in playoff

honestly? NIL _as a concept_ is fine. The players deserve some level of compensation due to how the school uses them to advertise their program/school and the money they make them from TV money. There do need to be rules in place to ensure that the schools don't exploit the athletes, as after all many of these players are still kids when they're being recruited, and given how football injuries can result in long lasting complications that could potentially preclude someone from certain kinds of work? them getting money for it is fair.

With the current state of CFB a relegation system is not feasible. You would have to completely redo everything and probably have to do something more akin to blitz the league rather than European soccer. As in you'd have to do a 4 tier system where every tier has it's own champion and said champion plays the worst team from the next tier up for the relegation game. Each tier is 32 teams with a NFL type structure ie 2 conferences of 4 divisions. Schedules would still be 12 games 3 against your division, 4 against a division in your conference, 4 against a division from the other conference, and 1 against a FCS school.

Here's my thought....thinking outside the box....All conferences do not received the same amount of money, this is due to the strength of teams in the conferences and teams like SEC and Big Ten get more media exposure thus more money. If they were to say for example, the lowest 2 teams get relegated to the next conference with lower payback and the other 2 teams get moved up to replace those that got relegated, similar to EPL. That would be interesting.

Only thing I’d like is some type of G4 appearance in the P4 playoff. Yes it’s almost always going to be a rough matchup but in case a team does something amazing. I think of UCF going 13-0 and never getting a chance to lose to a better team.

Eric Dickerson drove a Trans Am paid for by an Aggie booster at SMU lol your exactly right. Missouri state legislature opened Pandora’s box by allowing players to start getting NIL in September of their senior high school season

How do you stop mass transfers from relegated teams? These aren't just professional franchises, they're places were people are studying for their degrees.

Why not Just copy and paste the uefa nations league format and playoffs for American college gridiron football … only difference is you may have a bit more regional leagues instead off uefa draws and also instead off 4 team mini leagues you size these mini leagues to just under the maximum numbers off games an American football player can manage in a year so a tier a team can play a semifinal and final on top … so if can manage 17 games like a nfl team that’s mini leagues off 8 teams playing the other 7 home and away (14 games) play a 2 legged semifinal ( h and a) if won on aggregate then a final in a neutral venue = game 17

All conferences need 8 conference games with 2 Power non conference and 2 Group non conference games. 1 road game from each tier.

This isn’t that hard have automatic bid for all conference champions or have 2 32 team conferences are with 8 team divisions, all your division, winners, make the playoffs, and then you have one conference versus the other in the national title game

I like the relegation system, but I would like one more level. Let the ACC champion play the last place in the SEC and the last places in the ACC can play the group of four champions

If a relegation system was implemented then what SMU did in the 1980’s will pale in comparison to what teams would do now.. NIL isn’t pay for play but it will be if there’re a relegation system

This sounds nice in theory but even the little guys like getting their butts kicked because every once in a while an upset happens. Even pro sports keep their mediocre franchises.
