Mathew, great tips and totally practical however it would behoove your audience if you mention another safety tip when replacing a prop. Hi Matthew I recently plunged into the world of recreational drone flying and watched this video of 10 essentials. Very help video to see all things in one place. I went and bought your recommendations. Thanks very much for taking the time to put such educational videos and make drone flying less intimidating for us rookies. 😊
Thank you Matthew, excellent video, as always. There is one item that I find ESSENTIAL here in Canada, or anywhere else you may be flying in cold temperatures. Best of all, you can easily find one free of charge, or at worst, very cheap: I always carry a pen with a TOUCH SCREEN STYLUS TIP. These are widely available as business promotion swag; most people with tablets or smart phones probably have one lying around in a drawer. But when it comes to flying a drone in cold temperature, there is nothing better to work your touch screen with precision, even when wearing thick gloves. I have several gloves with touch-screen fingertips, but they are all awkward, imprecise and often need several attempts to connect with the screen. The little stylus works perfectly every time. I never leave home without it in my drone bag. Of all the accessories you mentioned, all of which are excellent, my touch-screen stylus would be very near the top of the list because in cold weather, it gets very difficult to operate my drone safely without it. Best regards from the Great White North!
In my opinion, a set of tweezers is a must,; to handle the micro SD cards or pick small objects out of crevices in the drone. I find it difficult to remove micro SD cards from the RC controller.
The notch on the end of the plastic camera protector thingy is just the right dimensions to get the SD card in and out. Personally, I use a plectrum because who doesn't carry a plectrum at all times?
Great tips on what to carry for those "what if situations" I have never used a landing pad as i take of and land using my hand 90% of the time, the other 10% i will use a the ground or some other hard surface.
Loving that wee organiser and as a newbie it’s good to learn that the screws are soft so I’ll be getting another screwdriver. I wasn’t going to bother about a landing mat but I reckon it might also be useful for when changing blades and filters on the drone less likelyhood of loosing them.
Congratulations on 100K Subscribers! Love your detailed perspective on drone flying! Thanks for all your hard work! If you care to share, what got you into drones?
Thank you! I used to be into drones many years back, but work started to take up most of my free time so the hobby faded away. Then when Covid hit and my work slowed down I picked the hobby back up and haven't looked back!
I recently purchased a foldable landing mat for my Mini 3 Pro and use it when I have to walk to my takeoff site. If I can drive to the site, I use a piece of corrugated cardboard that I keep in the back of my SUV.

I'm presuming you use the small bag with a yellow compartment to carry your DJI Mini 3 Pro and RC controller? If so how do they all fit in the bag as I've seen other videos with that bag and it looks like it would be a tight fit to get the RC Controller in the back pack?
Another great video Matheww, thanks. How do you manage your micro sd cards...I like to have more than one card but when formatted in the drone there isnt a method of naming the card etc

Hello - I was interested in the shoulder bag but I found out that the mini 3pro wont fit! Is there any similar shoulder bag for the DJI mini 3pro available … for the drone, the RC-controller and the presented accessorie bag?
Can you please test what happens with the Mini 3 Pro when you pull the left stick down during straight line RTH flight ? Will the drone descent or ascent ?
While I'd agree that it's nice to have protection on the camera lens, that frewell UV filter or glass really, is over 30 bucks with tax. An absolutely ridiculous price for some plastic and glass. I use the ND 8 that the all day pack comes with and call it a day. For 30 bucks...it can stay right on the shelf where it comes from and I'll use that money towards something more useful., like maybe another battery or something. Cheers and thanks for the vid!
Thanks for the video, Matthew. What is the lifetime of a propeller? I mean, if you don't see noticible defects, should you still swap them out after certain time or certain number of flight hours? I have most of the same in my backpack, I just really liked your idea for the organizer bag, so I'l look at that. By the way, for the SD cards, I use an SD Card oragnizer, that is the size of a credit card, because they are so easy to lose. Good tips and information once again, thanks. I use both the hard and soft-landing pads; the fabric landing pad can be folder up and put in its case and hooked on my backpack without bother. I always carry a power bank that I can fit into a pocket that I can connect to the equipment I’m using like a controller etc. and have an ECO Flow power station 110V 300W with AC outlets. I also always have cable adapters with me so I can change cables from USB to USB-C and USB-C to USB. I always take my equipment bag with me to carry remote controls, spare parts, tools, and accessories that I don’t want to carry in my backpack. I also take my GoPro Hero 11 and gimbal and iPhone 14 Pro and gimbal. The equipment bag stays in the car. I always have a small cooler for my water and Pepsi with ice pack and ice cubes and a snack. I always bring my comfortable folding camping chair because at some ocean front locations you don’t have to stand up to fly a drone.
One more tip I would have for everyone is to have a dual port USB car charger. If you are out and about and you want to charge your batteries faster, you can leave one in the drone and plug it in directly and then plug the battery bank into the second charger and charge them simultaneously. I have a dual port USB car charger that is QC3 (36W per channel).
