    I came back to watch and give a like. I'm still using the 138, it's getting a battery mod because it finds it way on the bench a lot. The plastic case remains stupid, perhaps some engineering might take effect while doing the battery mod. The JYE Tech is the correct version of this. Good show.

    I think this is the only video that goes through the interface. All the others just show people building it, calibrating it, and showing waveforms. Great help as I couldn't get my position cursor to move but now see you have to hold it for a while before it responds.

Chinese are getting richer every day and once the quality of life goes up, then they demand more and prices will go up may be in 10 years or less.

    I wasn't expecting much when I got this and boy was I not disappointed. If ten bucks for an hour or so of soldering, assembly and testing sounds worth it to you then get one of the completely disassembled kits on Amazon. If you actually need a functioning tool this ain't it. Some of the oscilloscopes built on Arduino are light years better.

    EXCELLENT video. From watching I think the trigger is not working on my unit. I will check it further.
    BTW, the "u" in the time base is actually the Greek letter Mu, and in electronics Mu is used to designate "micro". Most people don't have access to Greek letters so they use lower case "u". As in uF for microfarad.

    • @robojax
      @robojax  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello, very nice video ! i an new to oscilloscopes and i would like to ask you some questions about DSO138:
    1- What is the difference between the BNC and P6100 probe
    2- For DC current should i hook to both negative and positive of the component to see it waveform ?
    3- For AC current only positive of the probe or both ?
    4- What is the purpose of the alligator probe linked to the P6100 ?
    5- Can i see the waveform of 220v of the mains ? with which probe ?
    6- What is the 1x and 10x of the P6100 probe ?
    7- I want to see the waveform of some PWM of PSU ATX rated at 500Khz, is it possible ?
    Thank you very much !

    • @robojax
      @robojax  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello,
      1-They are the same. BNC is connector and the other is product from someone
      2-Pass the current from a shunt resistor and proportional to the current, voltage shows up and you measure it on oscilloscope . See shunt resistor related video here th-cam.com/video/9jwCc7uPGoc/w-d-xo.html
      3-see 2. AC or DC Current can be measured the same way
      4-to measure voltage, you need to complete the circuit by connecting + and -. the alligator is the negative and the tip of the prob is the positive
      5-On some oscilloscope yes. But not on this. you have to scall it down(making is smaller like twice of 5 times etc) it down so it doesn't burn your oscilloscope. I have provided the datasheet for this oscilloscope in the resources page link
      6-1x does nothing. 10x scales the signal down 10 times. Then you to have to oscilloscope that you set at the what scale so it shows proper value
      7-See the user manual. Specs are shown robojax.com/learn/arduino/?vid=robojax_DSO138_use bandwidth is 200kHz.
      Good luck.

    Can you measure the frequency of the automotive ignition coil with this device? I am trying to identify the cause of misfire and would like to see whether the coil "fires" equal to RPM/4 However, I am not sure of the actual voltage on the plug - 25kV? I understand, this device should not have any problems with measuring the O2 sensor

    • @robojax
      @robojax  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The input voltage must be reduced to 10V so you can safely measure it. It will show the waveform time and 1÷Time= Frequency and yes you can measure frequency. For example if a one full cycle is in one box (division) of scree and you read 1µS ( 1 micro second) then 1/1µS = 1000000 or 1MHZ

      @@robojax Thank you for the reply. The current in spark plugs is tiny: it's something more than uncomfortable and less than mild pain. My only idea at this point would be to salvage the old induction pick-up from the light timing gun, connect to its 12V light output instead of the bulb and to use 7805. It will not visualise the quality of the spark, but certainly would show the occurrence/frequency of the firing. Many thanks!

    • @robojax

      the input voltage of this has limit (I know it now but you can see it in video) but you can measure anything. Gain is the ratio of output divided by the input. so you have to measure the input and write it down, the the output and write it down and then divide it using calculator to find out the gain.

      So it seem you have not watched the video. Check the maximum period or frequency this score can measur end then check your laptop or device. If it is less than or equal the specs of this score you can do it. I believe this scope can measure up to 500kHz and laptop has so many different frequencies and it seems laptop is 100 times higher than the capability of this scope.

      a transmitter has frequency. this can measure up to certain frequency which I forgot it, if your transmitter is within the frequency range of this scope, yes you can see it. but if you are referring commercial FM radio, then it is it is about 88 MHz to 108MHz. that scope will cost between $800 to $10,000.

    I think you missed the point about the line at the top of the screen with the thick portion. The whole line represents the whole of the sample taken by the scope on one sweep. The thick portion of the line represents what you can see on the screen. So by scrolling this line you will see parts of the waveform not displayed on the screen but captured before the trigger. Of course using a simple repetitive signal like you did you will not see any new information. But when using the one shot mode on something like a digital I2C signal you should be able to scroll through and see other data that you can't see on the screen.

    • @robojax
      @robojax  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      this is just a tool. Depends on how do you define "dirty electricity". this show change in time (how fast it changes) and amplitude (how much it goes up or down of a signal. It is up you how to use this.

      @@robojaxfırstly thank you for the video. Well done!My questions are 1) Can I see harmonic distortions of 50 or 60 Hz AC 2) Can this measure erratic surges & spikes?

    can I measure sound frequency with this oscilloscope?

    • @robojax
      @robojax  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes you can but from what source? you need a microphone to amplify the sound and the output of amplifier can be connected to oscilloscope and you can see live signal as you talk on the microphone. or play something on your phone or other audio device, connect the (spare )headphone jack to the phone and connect other side of the headphone wire to oscilloscope (ground and signal, 2 wires) and you will see the signal
