    This is funny they talk about "fake" when the original version is open-source with a permissive license (something that sounds like BSD 3 clause). Cf. github.com/essboyer/DSO138/blob/master/readme.txt

    I just purchased one myself. I see after 4 years the screens are still crooked lol. I used a tiny amount of isopropyl between the pcb and display. Gave it a minute and the double sided sticky tape gave way. Let it all dry then repositioned the display correctly. No issues. I turn on the scope and my hole lcd display was blotchy. I checked it again the next day and all of the isopropyl that leached lcd dried out and you cant even tell, the screen looked brand new again. I also used a dab of hot glue on the slider switches, 3 came with broken tabs.

    Thanks for doing this video. I've never use this type of tool before. Not sure if mine is fake. Purchased from Gears Best, it did not have the date stamp.

    Is quite funny the Chinese whinging about counterfeits

    Mine came as a kit. Soldering SMD isn't all that fun but it worked fine when I was done.

    so the original engineer is mad that they took open-source hardware and copied their open-source kit?

    • @Someoldguycoding
      @Someoldguycoding  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it was open source at the time...

    Did you happen to notice in the section that said there is supposed to be a sticker the "genuine" board also had a date code that "they never have"?

    • @NiteLynr
      @NiteLynr 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The JYETech board had a date code of 1537 whereas the fake code is 1601 which was on the picture of the fake and the board in hand. I believe it is the actual code that is wrong, not the fact that there is one.

      @@NiteLynr my (assembled) fake from gearbest came without any date code. Normal trigger don't work and the display grew two white vertical lines all of a sudden

    I got a jyetech DSO150 from Banggood. It was described as "authentic". Bangood have other jtetech products that they specifically identify as "authentic" since I guess the recognize the counterfeit problem. I verified the serial number, etc, of mine and it checked out. Banggood's prices are in the same ballpark as the cheapy ebay sellers. p.s. I'm planning on adding a DSO168mini to the collection.

      any issues with receiving products from china on banggood? a lot of my ebay purchases never show up..

      @@bubbahogg-buga4613 I've only ordered from Banggood three times. One order took quite a long time and was damaged. It was just a cheap fan that wasn't well packaged. They refunded that order. Two, including the DS0150, were fine and arrived relatively quickly.

    Hello, very nice video ! i an new to oscilloscopes and i would like to ask you some questions about DSO138:
    1- What is the difference between the BNC and P6100 probe
    2- For DC current should i hook to both negative and positive of the component to see it waveform ?
    3- For AC current only positive of the probe or both ?
    4- What is the purpose of the alligator probe linked to the P6100 ?
    5- Can i see the waveform of 220v of the mains ? with which probe ?
    6- What is the 1x and 10x of the P6100 probe ?
    7- I want to see the waveform of some PWM of PSU ATX rated at 500Khz, is it possible ?
    Thank you very much !

    Did you have to solder JP3 and JP4 on the circuit board?

    Maybe that copy of the manual doesn't have the "Power supply must not exceed 8V" note on it. Or maybe you're above reading instructions. It didn't blow up, after all. Maybe the genuine one does!
    In case anyone's interested, mine seems to be a genuine kit (with barcode label) for £15.02 with a perspex case from "supersuperstore" on Ebay.

    Cool video! It seems the only place you can guarantee you won't get a fake is Banggood.....or JYETech of course. I just built a DSO150 from there for $16 with free shipping and it works great! A lot easier to use than this one (DSO138).....although i like this one too, and got a case for $4 delivered!

  • @englishrupe01

    If you get a fake DSO150 though, it will get bricked if you update the firmware and you have to get an authentication code after a few uses anyway., even with a genuine one. Hopefully this will stop someone from getting one from ebay or aliexpress and being disappointed.
