One of the biggest parts of enjoying sleep token is going in with no expectations of genre or fitting into box of any kind. While they definitely have some heavy instrumentals, some harsh vocals, they also have some trappy beats, pop and jazz, r&b/hip hop verses. They just can't be fully defined as metal, they really blend all the genres to suit each song individually. Every song is different and their discography is a journey!
Honestly the summoning isnt my favorite from this album. Not that i dont like it, i do, but it doesnt make my brain go *brrrrrr*, ya know? Off this album specifically, I love Ascensionism, Granite, Aqua Regia, and the apparition. Over all, top faves are the offering, higher, hypnosis, decending, high water. A lot of people would also put alkaline in there too.
Anyway, that was long winded, but i hope you continue giving them a chance! They are definitely unique!

Yes! I think a lot of the hate they get from 'metalheads' is because they expect for it to be heavier and more consistently metal. They want to put it in a neat little box where it's categorised under 1 genre or subgenre, then say it's 'not metal' because they can't do that with Sleep Token.
@buttoneyemrt491 i agree! It's always come off a bit elitist to me. Like, it's OK if they don't like it, that's all they need to say! Variety is the spice of life and no one is forced to like everything!
The singer Vessel does play every instrument in the recordings (guitar, bass, piano) except the drums, the drums are played by II (two). When the they tour they are accompanied by III (for the bass) and IV who playes the guitar. The bandmembers stay anonymous (even tho their identities have been leaked). With their concerts (they call it rituals) they worship a diety called sleep and the songs are the tokens hence the name, they don't really give interviews they don't talk to the crowd the just perform the life show with a qualitativ that is so top notch that u think its not real and the lasershow is nothing I have ever seen so far.

If you wanna go with something heavy, go for Vore or Gods. If you wanna go something mellow go for jazzy Aqua Regia. Or if you wanna go for something in between, try Alkaline.

If you want trap ish go with dark signs, apparition ascensionism. Softer go with dywtylm, drag me under, are you really ok, missing limbs, blood sport (from the room below) Atlantic and pretty much a lot of their earlier stuff. My favorite heavy songs are hypnosis and vore, higher and the offering
You're still young and you like what you like. Eventually, after some life experience, your tastes will expand or change. You will find yourself more open to different styles of music and you will start to appreciate the talent that goes into a song like this. A D grade is just simply not going to cut it, come back after listening to the song a few times, and tells us your updated grade. Because even if you hate this genre, the talent is top notch and cannot be denied. Learn to appreciate the talent for what it is and not try to fix it to what your tastes are currently.
@@iamrickrock i appreciate the talent the band has. i said that multiple times. every song im not going to like i could just say i like every song i listen to but i want people to know how i genuinely feel about it. i grew up listening to rap and now im trying to broaden my horizon with metal. go check out some of my other reactions
As far as the intro goes, I'm *pretty sure* that the time signature is in 6/8 , as apposed a typical 4/4 (1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.), yet, I've seen various transcriptions that would suggest otherwise, but as a drummer, 6/8 makes the most sense to me.
Have you seen the hour long Drumeo interview video where he plays songs and explains his influences and phrasings and stuff? It’s a really good video. He’s very much influenced by gospel, drum & bass, metal etc. ii is an incredible drummer - it’s a joy to watch him play.

@@boggysaurus i grew up listening to rap mostly. but recently i’ve been trying to learn guitar and i’ve always liked the distorted metal guitar sound so that’s what i’ve been trying to learn. thought it would be cool to show people my musical journey into the metal world.

I've now heard "dad metal"... not doubting their skills by any means, but this doesn't seem like a band I'd listen to.
I liked certain parts of the song. definitely gonna give them another shot, cant say i don't like them if i only heard one song.
I suggest looking through some of the other songs, this one while I love it, is pretty "normal" I'd say try vore for heavy, or Atlantic for heartbreaking.
