I see a decent amount of people saying it's decent for the price. That may be true but ANY place that pays / offers discounts for positive reviews is a POS place in my book. It doesn't matter if they are a 1 star hotel or a 5 star hotel, it is unethical at the very least.
And ask yourself this, if they are such a great value then why do they feel the need to bribe people for better reviews? Shouldn't that stand out on it's own? Why should an honest business down the street who doesn't do this kind of BS suffer and get fewer bookings because they aren't rated as high because they didn't pay for their reviews? See- doesn't seem so glorious now that you think about it for more than 10 seconds.

That's pretty decent for $25 a night. It's not a scam at all. I think you're after a 5 star, maybe next time just save up a bit and travel in style.

Although the hotel appears run-down, the price is justified. It's situated in the most expensive area, comparable to New York's Times Square. This area is very touristy and expensive, so locals never stay there.

For that price range what you got is decent. I hope you didn’t expect to get Sheraton grade for that price. I stayed there for a week 2 months ago (business trip) and thought it was decent given the location. I think it’s comparable to Travelodge or Holiday Inn back in America. I’ll stay there again if I come back to Saigon again

Yeah we were expecting decent for the price range for sure! And based of the reviews we were positive. Sadly our experience was not good. Happy to hear you like it!

@@yesandexploremaybe don't book a $25 room then if you expect more than what you got, because what you got is a decent room for the price you paid. Talk about silver spoon 🤣

Unfortunately I've seen far worse. Rooms at one hotel with entire walls caked in black mold, moldy A/Cs a given. A shower whose glass separator didn't extend to the floor, causing water to flood the entire bathroom with no drainage, a big chunk cut out of the bathroom wall for ventilation. Karaoke and hawkers on speaker all night. The pervasive smell of urine. This was at a 'newly built' hotel with raving reviews in Da Nang, my very first hotel in Vietnam.
Now I am very skeptical and don't hand anyone a single dollar until I can inspect the room top-to-bottom. Never accept their laundry services either, they'll quote you higher than the standard/posted price and pocket the change.

As a frequent visitor to Vietnam, for what it's worth and realizing this vid is now five months old, what I'm seeing is a number of lodging facilities now actively trying to recover their COVID losses and intentionally gouging tourists. Example: place I stayed in Hanoi was about $120/night in February. I'm going back next month, but that same room is now $160 - and, across the board, 30+% increases are NOT uncommon!

Yeah covid hit many asian businesses very hard! Sadly prices rise a lot but we still did find lots of good deals, just gotta work harder! Enjoy your trip next month and thanks for watching 😃

The review seems accurate to me, but it's what one might expect for less than $30 a night in Saigon. (There are some better deals around at that price, however.). I don't think I'd have been surprised at what you found here. By the way, these split AC units usually have a remote control that can adjust the direction and force of the air stream. This review wasn't bad. Many may find it informative. I'd choose not to stay here.

@@yesandexplore no you did were staying at a nice hotel, and we're going to staying at the Cecilia Saigon for the rest of our journey. I hate garbage hotels. In Vietnam it's so easy to fall for that. I love the country the hotel owners are somewhat deceptive though.

We booked at the said hotel for only 22 USD in Agoda site. To be fair with the staff, they are very friendly and accommodating to thw fact that we have checked in at 1AM. We never expect much due to the fact of its cheap price. So my advise is to manage your expectation based on the price. The price at 22 USD is good.

As a Saigon born native who has been living in the US and travelled to Paris for over 48 years, I believe that your review of the that particular hotel is entirely biased and prejudicial. Today you cannot find a cheap or decent motel/hotel anywhere in the US or in Europe. Everything is expensive as the governments are taxing individuals and businesses for wars and foreign interventions. Typically, you can expect to pay over $50 just to rent a RV/campsite at a US National park.
Most Western travelers are happy with their visit to Vietnam which tries for the last decades to forget the wars imposed by Western nations on Asia. Bad memories still linger in the minds of some people-the Hanoi Hilton, Dien Bien Phu, US bombings of South Vietnam and North Vietnam in the early Seventies. So they begin to apply double standards of judgement when they visit nations that were former US enemies. If you have been a frequent traveler of Central America, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, your opinion would be entirely dictated by where you come from.

That's not a scam, it's normal in that price range. The room is comparably okay.
A scam typically involves intentional deceit, such as falsely advertising non-existent accommodations or misrepresenting services. If the main issue is a discrepancy between the promotional photos and the actual condition of the room, it's more a matter of transparency or marketing rather than outright fraud.

@yesandexplore In SEA it's cheap. But countryside is the cheapest.
Going to cities like Ho Chi Minh and Bangkok is still cheap compared to EU and US.
      But expensive for many.
Hotels, food, taxies cost more in Hi Chi Minh than in Da Nang, or Mui Ne or Hoi An and so on.
      Same in Thailand.
Pattaya is cheaper than Bangkok. And so on.
I experienced this in the US , my friend went to Florida, told me about prices, I went to LA very different prices.
This is what you need research before you go.
And in Saigon D1 is most expensive. Go to other district and hotels are cheaper.
Anyways, you got what you payed for and actually it was not bad.
      Better luck next time.
Ps. Most rent Airbnb in HCMC now in luxury apartment buildings.
Maybe look at that option. ??
