Unpopular opinion, but I don’t think it was necessary for Brett and Eddy to bully this guy. Even after making their video, they continue to make Ben Lee the butt of their joke often. I like Brett and Eddy, so I feel like I can offer constructive criticism to them. Ben might not be a virtuoso, & perhaps his record was a tad sloppy, but I still think playing Flight of the Bumblebee in its entirety is pretty impressive. I’m sure if he plays it at normal tempo that it sounds very good. I for sure can’t play it yet. I also have to say, Brett & Eddy have a goal to bring classical music to a mainstream audience, to interest people in music, & to encourage others to practice & enjoy a musical community. I feel like they sometimes subvert their own message by overly criticizing others who are trying. I saw a video they posted some years ago of a guy playing Zigeunerweisen. He was hitting some parts and fumbling through others. Brett & Eddy just laughed at his attempt and made fun of him the whole time. But I thought they wanted to share a love of music & practice? Do they only mean that for the select few who were blessed with the talent of Hilary Hahn? They went to lengths to profit off of poking fun at Alma Deutscher..... who was FIFTEEN at the time. Was that necessary? She seems like a sweet-hearted girl. Perhaps she even knew of TwoSet and looked up to them as older guys who had a musical platform & great achievements to their name already? I don’t have children, but if two guys on the internet found it appropriate to bully my 15-year-old child on the internet so others could laugh at her, I would have a huge problem with that. They even sold t-shirts that poked fun at her. That’s gross in my opinion. I’m the same age as Brett. I would never do anything but try to uplift those who are younger than me. Not profit off of t-shirts making fun of a 15-year-old. The last thing off the top of my head is the way they make fun of other instruments, especially viola. I get it..a joke is a joke. Here and there, it would be funny. They were surprised when a professional recorder player clapped back at them for making fun of recorder and almost acted like she overreacted. “Lol her label wouldn’t let her make the video so she made a new channel just to get us”. Not even apologizing properly, just poking more fun at her. But are you surprised that she was mad? She didn’t practice her whole life & achieve great things just so two guys on the internet with a platform of millions could make her profession into a complete joke. The classical community is very small, so TwoSet has to realize they basically have a monopoly on public opinion of classical music right now. That’s my opinion. If they want to make jokes, that’s fine. But they could temper that out with short inserts praising these instruments as vital and virtuosic. Maybe they think it’ll hurt their brand to say something good about the viola? But let me put it this way. They seem to think their brand is riding on making fun of Ben Lee, making fun of Alma, making fun of viola.. I dislike all of this. And yet I still like TwoSet! They don’t have to do these unkind things to keep the vast majority of their audience. I like watching them play classical music themed games, make lighthearted jokes, I like when they scream so much it blows out my earbuds when they play charades lol They don’t have to be unkind to keep their audience. But anyway, this is all just my opinion. They achieve their mission very well when when make videos giving constructive criticism on fan performances, when they play their fans’ compositions, and when they encourage others to practice. However, they subvert their own message when they tear into others for not playing up to their personal standard & when they hurt public image regarding other instruments and don’t even try to temper that out by praising those same instruments in other situations. I didn’t intend to write all of this, these are just thoughts that have been on my mind since I started following TwoSet a few years ago. Had to finally put it out there. Thanks for reading if you made it this far.
My main problem with Twoset team is a more practical one. They have never credited properly all those videos and sources that they use as reaction material, no links in video description either. That is just borderline stealing content.
Yeah even i see that some twosetters take the jokes too far till offend or insult to people who want to give constructive criticism to Brett and Eddy, especially in videos where they roasted others, i think is the dark side of the channel.
@@milagritosuwu5062 I see more of twosetters take the jokes too far rather than Twoset themselves. I just watched Twoset's newest LL40H video and noticed how Twoset actually cringed and being not really responsive to the overused jokes. Eddy even seemed offended at one particular meme that saying Twosetters are going to chase the next new fastest violin player. Good thing he clarified that there is no problem for being the fastest violin player (read: Twosetters shouldn't perpetuate this toxic behaviour). I hope the fans can catch the gist of what Eddy said there. Also usually TH-cam channels have this side of uncontrollable younger audiences, especially when the channel becomes too big. Look at how Davie504's fanbase has become.
Yeah I just researched twoset’s video and honestly they didn’t say anything bad (such as “Ben lee sucks” or “he’s ugly”). They were just comically making it known that classical music isn’t all about playing fast and using a sparkly expensive instrument. Plus I think Ben took it really gracefully and didn’t start a war (unlike the blinks). I think that’s very impressive and mature and I hope it didn’t damage his self esteem to become a bit of a laughingstock :/ I’m also glad I didn’t see any twosetters hating on Ben the most they did was poke fun at his interview thingy. Morale of the story is don’t go on tv doing something u don’t really know about, and also joking around is ok but don’t cross the line and become a bully :)
Amazing video and research! Anyone else believe that the Bumblebee incident helped him gain his own independence as a musician? I mean, his whole association with FUSE seemed to end afterwards, he's had non-FUSE gigs and he's produced music, even for the PS5. Maybe the Bumblebee video helped him out in the end?
I think that Ben Lee is talented, he should have just prepared more for that Guinness world record Also the person interviewing him was at a complete loss
I really love the investigative type of video! Yeah definitely do more if you're willing to! It's definitely important to know that we can't judge someone off of one performance and now the backstory.
This was great. You did some really good research here. I've sometimes thought about how they tore apart Ben Lee and while his performance was pretty bad, I still always felt uncomfortable that they'd roasted a person they didn't know. I did feel that lack of social media presence by the band just shows that maybe their heart wasn't in it or their comms are kind of rubbish. i loved the video!!! one thing i would have liked to see (but maybe others wouldn't) is some financial info about the jeweler and the company that made the violin(s); and how could they afford such expensive instruments.
damn that's some impressive research you did there! I could imagine this be for a essay for english haha but yeah it's nice to see another side of ben lee that isn't associated with his bumblebee performance. i wish him all the best, he surely is a talented musician!
Thank you for spending time to do the researching and show us more sides of ben lee. it feels so good to see him much normal and like a real musician now. i hope eddy and brett can see he changed, they would be so happy for him
What's really glaring about their media posts, is the near complete absence mentioning any of their music. I mean, typically bands and musicians in general will elaborate on their musical recording - such as origins of concepts, problems developing projects, etc, but here we appear to have nothing.
The music for Horizon: Zero Dawn was amazing.Ben has redeemed himself that *quickly* for me just by helping with the sequel. I do wanna know, however, what he thinks of Twoset’s reaction to him ... if he’s seen it.
I bet that she does. She seems intimately aware of the interview, as evident by her piece "the sixty minutes polka", a modivication on her inprovisation from the interview. To say that she hadn't read the comments before they were disabled seems to be a slim chance to me, but idk
Alma's parents have always been extremely protective. Which is understandable, considering her unusual musical abilities started to show when she was only 2. She has always been homeschooled, takes lessons from private music teachers. Her father even refused to expose her to operas with tragic plots when she was young, because he was afraid it would traumatise her. They also limit her performances, only selecting opportunities that they consider the most enjoyable and helpful for her. She's very sheltered, and honestly, I don't think that's a bad thing. To her parents, the most important is protecting her and ensuring that she has a happy childhood. (This is more than we can say about many prodigies' parents...) Which is why I genuinely think that, even if people may have told her about this TwoSet video, she hasn't watched it, and she probably didn't read any of the comments under the "60 Minutes" video either. I doubt she even watches TH-cam at all. In an interview last year (she was 14) she said she didn't have a cell phone and had little interest in social media. She has a computer but mostly uses it to write her compositions. By the way, the comment section under the video wasn't disabled because of TwoSetters (even if it's true they were A LOT of comments talking about TwoSet). Three years ago, it was discovered that paedophiles were leaving predatory comments under videos of children, which is why TH-cam ultimately decided to disable the comments on the majority of videos featuring kids, including this one.
@TheCartóon94 it's one thing to make several videos making fun of her. That's as low as it gets in itself. The problem is that twosets cult fans then spend the next 5 years pestering every single comment section with the stupid meme and still do to this day. Not surprised though, twosets whole game is to bully other people, so of course their fans would do the same. Reminds me of trump and his followers.

I agree.
You have an awesome point there and you are absolutely right
I wish they would see it
My main problem with Twoset team is a more practical one.
After what they did to Egg Fried Rice, why am I not surprised that it was BBC ?
I hope Twoset and Ben Lee will have the nice Uncle Roger and Auntie Hersha moment, becoming BFF lol
This is so well-made, well researched, and enjoyable to watch!!! I hope TwoSet and Ben see this tbh
that one researcher that says
"The reason why Linzi has a lot more follower is because of
SIMPS"
Amazing video and research! Anyone else believe that the Bumblebee incident helped him gain his own independence as a musician? I mean, his whole association with FUSE seemed to end afterwards, he's had non-FUSE gigs and he's produced music, even for the PS5. Maybe the Bumblebee video helped him out in the end?
True, i thought the same. In the end, he developed himself
I think that Ben Lee is talented, he should have just prepared more for that Guinness world record
Also the person interviewing him was at a complete loss
Interviewer knew he was full of ish...... He literally can't play it that fast either.
I really love the investigative type of video! Yeah definitely do more if you're willing to! It's definitely important to know that we can't judge someone off of one performance and now the backstory.
That's excellent research, thanks for offering this perspective on the dude, he seems really cool after all
I always thought that he was an actual very talented musician
But that interview (world record) was the gate for a lot of memes lmaooo
He’s cool
This was great. You did some really good research here. I've sometimes thought about how they tore apart Ben Lee and while his performance was pretty bad, I still always felt uncomfortable that they'd roasted a person they didn't know.
I did feel that lack of social media presence by the band just shows that maybe their heart wasn't in it or their comms are kind of rubbish. All iNtEreStiNg things to think about ;)
P.s. you've got yourself another subscriber :)
P.p.s. Happy 40th birthday to Ben!
this was incredibly well-researched, funny, yet still graceful in critique!!! im really impressed. sometimes we forget that ben is still a person who lives his life in a context we may know nothing about. thanks for sharing!
2018 TwoSet: Sacrilegious
2020 TwoSet: Lamentable!
TLDNW: this video makes the assumption that there’s some big corporation (that lacks a marketing and web/IT team) that pushed Ben into doing his stunt.
Dang this was actually really well-made, and answered questions I didn't even know I had! Great job on the thorough research, I would love to see twoset react to this!
Honestly, I think it's weird that we're all wondering where Ben is at the same time XD
Aw I'm so happy to see the end. Damn he's also looking hot now.
92K VIEWS IN JUST ONE WEEK??
I swear this is going to be the video that makes ur channel more appreciated, just like the OG Ben lee roast did for twoset’s channel
Definitely a turnaround for my impression of Ben. Thank you
Someone get this to Brett and Eddy
This was brilliant, thanks for your work on this!
i loved the video!!! one thing i would have liked to see (but maybe others wouldn't) is some financial info about the jeweler and the company that made the violin(s); and how could they afford such expensive instruments.
damn that's some impressive research you did there! I could imagine this be for a essay for english haha
but yeah it's nice to see another side of ben lee that isn't associated with his bumblebee performance. i wish him all the best, he surely is a talented musician!
The entertainment industry is ruthless, it seems. Glad to see he seems to be doing well.
This is really good! 👍👍
good job on the investigation and thanks so much for the video! We all needed some closure here 😁
Awww this is just another reminder not to judge people too quickly. I shouldnt need reminded by this point
It's refreshing to see this alternative point with concise and relatively well-researched points.
A MA ZING
I've always felt bad for Ben Lee. Can you post this on Ling Ling 40 Hours so that everyone and TSV can see?
Thank you for spending time to do the researching and show us more sides of ben lee. it feels so good to see him much normal and like a real musician now. i hope eddy and brett can see he changed, they would be so happy for him
This is what you call character development...
Please continue this series!!!
I was scrolling in my recommended, when I suddenly saw this vid. Ben is my piano teacher!
Twoset has to see this! Great video, it's good to see another small creator really out there actually trying
After Vov’s performance though, Ben’s flight of the bumblebee performance looked genius
Good to know he's doing well and making music for games is great. A lot of them have great scores.
THAT WAS 2 YEARS AGO????? Great video! Really enjoyed it
THE WAY I LOST IT WHEN YOU SAID "their 2010 album is out nOw" hAJSBSHSBSHSHSHSHSBSHSBSSHSBSBSBB
Cool. Classical world has a reporter now. Or maybe it's more of a special segment?
What's really glaring about their media posts, is the near complete absence mentioning any of their music. I mean, typically bands and musicians in general will elaborate on their musical recording - such as origins of concepts, problems developing projects, etc, but here we appear to have nothing.
Ah, it’s September 15, 2022. All of this was 2-4 years ago. I love just coming back to this and rewatching this saga. :)
Me answering all the questions you asked at the starts because he teaches me piano: 😊
Omg this video is priceless
3:08 InTeReStInG salutes those two figures have there on the left
That redemption arc made Uncle Iroh proud 🍵 🎻
Hey, thanks for a great video! Looking forward to your Vov Dylan episode!
Honestly I think he's better at playing classical violin than the electric. It reveals his talent in it!
Fastest I've ever subscribed to a channel! This is really well thought out and researched material, looking forward to more!
The music for Horizon: Zero Dawn was amazing.Ben has redeemed himself that *quickly* for me just by helping with the sequel.
I do wanna know, however, what he thinks of Twoset’s reaction to him ... if he’s seen it.
This ended up so much more wholesome than I thought
Great research, I appreciate it! Maybe you can link this video on the subreddit so more people (and possibly TwoSet themselves) can see it?
Please all of twosetters blow this video up so Twoset themselves can react to it😭
I will never get these 20 minutes back..
I wonder if Alma Deutscher knows about the "insteresting" thing...
I'm sure even if she didn't the Twoset fandom would definitly let her know.
(This is more than we can say about many prodigies' parents...)
Which is why I genuinely think that, even if people may have told her about this TwoSet video, she hasn't watched it, and she probably didn't read any of the comments under the "60 Minutes" video either.
14:42 the paragraph before the one you circled in this screenshot actually made me say out loud "....what???" so i ended googling this guy, and. the fact that he played violin in arctic monkeys' baby i'm yours has Completely snatched my whole wig. i mean;; what??
wow it was so interesting!! i love how you began to mock him but finally took all the pieces together to show he's a good person and a great artist. i like the conclusion
I loved this so much and I’m so glad to have watched this!!!
I like this video and category. I’d be happy to see more. Keep up the great work!
this is such a good video good job👏👏
Glad to see ol Ben Lee doing well.
Indeed, that interview really felt like a sales pitch more than anything else.
Absolutely love this channel, may the best of success come your way!~
Ben “pitch” lee. Or….. Ben “pitchy”
This was so good, fantastic research :)
2 years? Wow, it feels like it was yesterday. This meme never gets old, we love you 2Set
