      Lamar hasn’t had a lot to learn from in the passing game really and has struggled a little bit from it (even in college Pat had the better QB minds)
      Lamar has a both the cannon and the whip to make any throw on the field. he’s made great throws against us in just the last two matchups 4 or 5 times, but he’s made his biggest mistakes. at the end of the day if Lamar, Allen, Burrow, Stroud, or even Herbert were drafted into KC with Hill and Kelce plus coaching and continued x draft support they’d be borderline unstoppable too (not Mahomes level)

      @@dashien2605 I don't think Lamar is the issue. JT posed the question and my answer is Lamar's usage. We're (Ravens) basically exhausting our own QB by expecting him to run so much. That's why his mechanics slip as the game goes on. He's exhausted. To compound the issue, our passing scheme isn't great. It's just better than Roman's which was the worse in the league. The line is a mess right now and our WRs are iffy outside of Zay.

    I think he has a huge year. Likely stepping up as a reliable playmaker is huge. Now you have Derrick Henry with a 2 tight end offense and a playmaker in Flowers on the outside. I think he has a 4000 pass, 1000 rush season. He narrowly missed 4000 last year in his first season under Monken. They're getting a lot more comfortable with one another now and the Ravens are giving him a lot more freedom making audibles and changing things at the line. It might take until the half way point of the season, but he is going to start really tearing it up through the air in my opinion. Time will tell. They will likely be seeing KC again in the playoffs. @@JC-zj2is Ravens fan here. Our issue is that we have a Head Coach and organization that think they can run their way to a title. But we have a Head Coach who panics when he falls behind and we don't build a passing game to throw us back into games. KC basically showed us stacked looks pre-snap, to get us out of run calls, while flooding the middle and forcing our WRs to beat them on the outside. That was in the AFC Title Game. Their plan B was clearly to just stack the box and do the same thing. They just didn't need to. Thursday, they just skipped Plan A and went to Plan B. Until the Ravens take the outside passing game more seriously, they'll hit a wall.. You can't keep expecting Lamar to do that much running and still expect consistent mechanics and accuracy. Let him focus on being a QB, in an offense that can work with him just being a QB, and you'll get better passing.

      @@anthonyanderson9303 well with a WR group that was 14th in dropped passes, despite the team being 31st in attempts, just last year when it was said he had his best WR group ever, you’re not going to see a lot of that, because they have a hard enough time just doing their basic jobs and Lamar is still asked to do a ton of running, because the Ravens are an organization that has LONG prioritized the running game over the passing game. Nobody’s gonna maintain consistent mechanics running 10 times and taking 10 hits. Yet and still, from an accuracy standpoint, he was still sixth amongst QBs with 10+ starts last year.

    • @anthonyanderson9303
      @anthonyanderson9303 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@segagenesis7708 I'm not saying the organization isn't partially to blame. They've relied on his athleticism so much and not attempted to develop him further as a passer. I almost felt like their reluctance to pay him as long as they did was a sign that they were considering moving off him and just bringing in another running type QB for cheap. There was so much pressure from the fandom however I think they had no choice but to pay him, but I don't believe they really wanted to.
      Those accuracy numbers can be a misleading tho. When you put on the tape and see the throws he misses and why he misses (his mechanics as has been discussed is severely lacking at times). even this past game yea he was 63% but how many of those completions were screens to Zay or out to the flat to the running back? His downfield passing is still an issue and while it's not 100% on him, elite defenses have the book on him now. He's talented to beat average and bad teams, hence his record, but against top defenses in big moments we've seen the results.

Gotta get Henry goin early, so we can get the playaction/ rpo's goin and everything else will open up. We do need a vet WR tho, so they can start coaching these young guys on how to sit down in zone cov. D wasnt bad, just ran too much zone imo. Sometimes you gotta line up and press them WRs to disrupt timing. (they did it to us the whole game) D def gave the O a chance to stay in the game. Im proud of my boys tho. 😈😈😈 #flocknation

    Great breakdown. I honestly think the pressure just got to him this game. They again couldn't get the run going with rbs and were getting wrecked early. By the time he wore them down enough to and had time to throw he was in ready to throw mode. The blessing and curse of being a great running qb. I've said for a couple yrs now they need to have disallow him running in the offseason and have to keep his footwork and make the throw. Also they didn't want to make a big deal about Andrews being hurt after his car wreck; but he is clearly not healthy and I think that's why he didn't throw that one ball like he normally would the past 6 yrs. It's shitty bc there's no way we're in the game w/o Lamar but in big games it seems like he just doesn't make the throws we need to win like we see against most teams. I'm glad he's our qb. Good and bad I'm riding with our 2X MVP QB.

      I agreed too, but the bigger thing for me was 'why' he had that issue with his mechanics. The man was exhausted. It was clear as day. You don't see Mahomes, Burrow, Stafford, out there running 15 times. It's way too hard for a QB to maintain great mechanics throughout a game as it is. But to then try and pull it off after doing all of that running is impossible.

      Hi, I think the multiple illegal formations calls were outrageous. The commentators said that the league was sending a signal to every team that this was a critical concern. Well, if so do it by memo and not on a nationally hyped replay of the last Super Bowl. If ever you could dampen the enthusiasm, drama and excitement of two great teams going head to head, it was by this officiating performance.
      Lamar’s,I believe, 50 yard run, against perhaps the best defense in the league a thing of technical beauty was called back on a holding penalty which on the replay was dubious at best and in my opinion a fraudulent call.
      Just for business purposes this was a miserable call. It would be a highlight all year hyping the game. How, to ruin a great game, letting the officiating become more influential than the players. This really sucks.

    You know it's funny, because last season I feel like Lamar was very, very good about getting out of the pocket and then resetting his feet and looking downfield to make a throw. I don't know if it was the spotty pass protection, the pressure to run the ball when they didn't in the AFC champ game, or if he just felt antsy about having to do it all to beat the chiefs, but Lamar definitely seemed less composed in certain parts of this game. As you pointed out, it seemed like sometimes he was trying to run at the first opportunity instead of progressing through his reads.

      Agreed. I'm a Ravens fan, but we just haven't built the sort of passing game that can stand on its own feet. Our WRs are weak (Zay is the best and he's not even Top 20), the passing scheme is average and the protection is bad. But if we at least had significant improvement in two of those three areas, Lamar wouldn't have to run for our offense to do anything and then I think he remains more consistent with his mechanics. But the man was exhausted out there.

  • @reznortetrault4348
    @reznortetrault4348 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think the main issue is we have three new linemen starting and our protection that game, especially early on, was rough. So Lamar definitely took off and ran more than he normally does. It was also the first time that oline played together in a live game, Ravens didnt play any starters in the preseason games. They did better later on but hopefully they can get on the same page sooner this season so Lamar can consistently make those nice pocket throws we all know he can make. Plus our run game/run blocking needs to get going, that was mediocre at best that game...

    correct me if im wrong coach and it may be pointing out the obvious but lamar jackson just has much better instincts as a runner than as a passer. the issues you pointed out in this video although he's improved on many of them they're still the same issues he came into the league with and even with the improvements they still stand out in "gotta have it" moments. when you were talking about him stepping up and resetting in the pocket that just seems to be something that has to be instinctual since everything is moving so fast and you are relying more on instincts and muscle memory than thinking everything you're doing through in the front of your mind. he's been in the league for a minute now and although im a fan and id love nothing more than to see the chiefs lose, i just dont see him being the main reason his team makes it over the hump in the playoffs like mahomes is for the chiefs. i think he can absolutely be a big playoff contributor if he can dial it in but its gonna have to be a stout defense + great run game + lamar playing sound football and not missing big throws or making any big mistakes. and of course he'll be awesome and in the mvp conversation during the regular season. he's the joel embiid of the nfl in a lot of ways.

    I watched the highlights, and that was a fantastic game. He has never been a pure pocket passer. He uses his legs too much, as you know. They got Derrick Henry, and he should have used that guy more. That would have helped with the rush and given him more time to move up in the pocket. There's no sense mentioning the obvious, I guess.
    It's almost like Lamar is drifting to the side he is throwing to. Instead of lining up from the center of the pocket, he appears to drift to lineup for the pass. He also might be doing it to give the receiver time to win instead of just keeping his base and throwing from that venter pocket position.

    To my eye, as the game went on I think he started to get a little frantic. Almost like he wants it so bad that he loses his fundamentals. If not now I don’t know when he will. They threw Greg Roman under the bus and I don’t see how they’re going to throw Todd monken under the bus. Yep the idea that he is going to somehow become a great pocket passer, in his sixth year is ridiculous. He just isn't accurate. ESPECIALLY under pressure. Dude is maybe 6th at best behind guys like Mahomes, Burrow, Allen and Stroud and Purdy. The biggest part of playing qb is accurate passing. I don't care if you are an electric runner. It can only get you so far and it will end your career far earlier than someone who is an elite pocket passer.

    On the penultimate play, I didn’t see 7 being open, and the spacing looked fine to me. Hindsight is 20/20, but Flowers seems like the logical guy to be open there. Doesn’t look like that was the design though, which I think had to do with Lamar not seeing it sooner, but maybe it’s because it takes too long to open up, being a sort of fluke from the scramble, but seems like Flowers got there fast enough to be a real play. Lamar is asked to do everything and is the reason why we were in the game to begin with. He is one man. He can’t do everything by himself. He has to deal with bad coaching that he has to overcome and an inadequate offensive unit around him to make his job harder. Eric Decosta has failed Lamar by not rebuilding the o-line during the offseason, and still not give him a number 1 wr. At the end of the day, if the Ravens continue this path by being too cheap on offense to help Lamar, then Lamar is gonna eventually leave this team and go somewhere where he can reach his full potential.
