I got in touch with one of the designers of the game and he gave me info on it. -The team are massive fans of wrestling. They watched it since the 80s, some dated back to the territory days. -They wanted to be as faithful to wrestling lore as possible such as all the various attires taken from different time periods and wrestling events and the arenas. -They never used the same engine for the series. They created a new one for each game. -The Career Mode was created in the style of being a wrestler during the 80s. -The animations were all combined and reused thanks to Acclaim having a animation software dating back to the Nintendo 64 wrestling games they worked on. Most of the team worked on them so they found it pretty easy to work on the game. -They loved working with the wrestlers. They are big fans. -George "the Animal" Steele came into Acclaim one time and saw what the company were doing with the game. He loved it.
That's one thing I like about the series, it's obvious it was made by legit wrestling fans. Particularly the third game Showdown, all the attires and awesome venues shows that the guys behind it were highly knowledgeable wrestling fans.
Any reason why the cages were so high? For obvious reasons that would never be incorporated in real life . For aesthetics purposes it does look interesting .
Tbh the best part of this game is the interviews with the wrestlers which still are great especially eddies where you can see how much he’s gotten his life back to together

That's because WWE owns most of the gimmick, and it can't be used in video games or merch of any kind. Eadie and Darsow can use it at indy shows, but can't sell the property to video game makers. Basically, they would have to add Masked Superstar and Darsow without a character, and then allow fans to change their looks via create an attire. Their legendary entrance theme wouldn't be there too, so yeah it would suck big time.
Demolition are persona non grata in WWE after joining that big class action lawsuit against WWE a few years ago. Supposedly the New Day's record setting 483-day run with the tag titles was done solely to break Demolition's 478-day record, because Vince McMahon is such a petty person. See also: Brock Lesnar's 504-day Universal Title reign to break CM Punk's 434-day record as longest world championship reign in the "modern era".
I thought these games had potential, but at the end of the day it was made by Acclaim, a company not known for innovating... But the story lines about the territories was pretty sick
I wish the blood system was addressed in this review. It was HUGE step up over what was offered in the smackdown series down the line. The fact that you could bust your opponent open, and that they'd progressively bleed more and more all over the ring was so damn cool to me.

Didnt mention one cool thing the game does. Randomly, during a move the game will freeze and do a 360 spin with the camera. It basically shows off the move you’re doing like the matrix. Best move to have this happen is a high cross body off the top rope, it looks so damn cool. This game is awesome, once you get the controls down it’s so easy and fluid to dig into.
I used to jam to 5:27 in the menu on loop tbh It's insanelllllyyyyyy catchy Fun fact: they changed some lyrics in the Showdown: Legends of Wrestling version Edit: The change was "Mr. Fuji, Bobby Heenan, Million Dollar Man" to "Mr. Fuji, Bobby Heenan, they call him 'The Brain'"
The old intro was way too long, well that’s at least what everybody constantly mentioned. After all the comments about it I decided to go another direction, but the old theme does make frequent appearances. 😃
Glad you mentioned the shoots. I played the GameCube version as well and someone said the shoot interviews were the best part of the game a few weeks ago, and I had no idea what they were talking about.
I've been watching your content for a couple of years now, and your spotlight music intro is so nostalgic!! I love hearing it! Maybe its because you cover wrestling games a lot and it brings me back to my 90's childhood playing my Snes and N64 wrestling games. Man, I had such a wonderful childhood, I feel so blessed. Once again, your brazilian fan thanks you for your great reviews! I never had a GameCube, so I missed all these games. Most reviewers talk bad things about this one, but you made it feel not that bad at all. Maybe I'll try them someday.

Me and my brother played Legends of Wrestling 1 and 2 a ton back in the day. We used to have the most brutal hardcore matches with blood covering the ring. They were fun to play and wish they'd make a new one.

Definitely like the 1st game, I always remember doing a springboard move on a guy to the outside of the ring with RVD and it being so satisfying to the point where I did it like 20 more times lol

I never played this game or really any of the Legends Of Wrestling games but I've been aware of them for a couple of years at this point. There a quite a few who think this one is the best of the series mainly due to it's faster gameplay. Comparing this fo footage of the 1st and showdown, it certainly seems a lot faster which is a good change as I remember you mentioning way back in your showdown review that everything was slow and delayed.
I loved this game as a kid the music,territories,and arenas were dope 👍 I love the blood physics @blood staining mat...I used to use One Man Gang and try to stain the whole mat with my opponents blood lol 😆

I love how every match features a run in from an ally of your opponent lol Many of times as a young kid I would rage quit due to how technical the wrestlers were and reversed constantly. One time in a main match from a territory I had someone in the lower red bar, on my way to victory and the game froze. God, I love this game!
I definitely liked Showdown the best of them all. I think mostly for all of the different venues being actual arenas, with entrance stages based off of real life wrestling stages. The venue nerd in me always liked that.😂
I played the crap out if this one cause I got it cheap and loved the story mode it had with the territory system I wish more wrestling games could go to this with a legendary roster and not have to worry about licenses. I played the other legends if wrestling as well but kept going back to this one.
I remember I had the PS2 British version (I’m from Scotland) and it had Big Daddy Shirley Crabtree, Giant Haystacks, Mick Mcmanus & Kendo Nagasaki who were massive names in Britain in the 70’s & 80’s. It was really cool

One of the best game I've ever played in PS2, even the controller laggy and animation look cartoonish, but i'm very entertained with attire and the rosters. I remember play this and Here Comes The Pain, nonstop 24 hours until my PS2 are broken hahah lol

Showdown was my favorite LoW game, by far. I hear a lot of criticism for it but I played the xBox version when it came out and it played smoothly enough, while the negative reviews seem to focus on the PS2 version, perhaps.
I grew up with this game. I remember whenever "Box Full Of Sharp Objects" would play, by the chorus I know he screeches "AND STRONGEEEEER!!" but as a 10 year old I thought he said "I SHIT ON WAAAAAALLS" and I'd burst out laughing This also has a demo version of Trapt's "Headstrong" long before... You know. And my lord the cage match was frustrating lol
And watching it? It wasn't a big disappointment for me. Kinda fascinating how the PAL version of the game included four British wrestlers. Since I live in the UK myself (and own the game), this is kinda fascinating. In fact, speaking of the last installment, Acclaim signed a deal with a long-gone Wrestling-focused TV channel in my area to promote the game. Makes me think how they even got the money to do so...

Yes, I used the GC version for the review.
And watching it? It wasn't a big disappointment for me. Kinda fascinating how the PAL version of the game included four British wrestlers. Since I live in the UK myself (and own the game), this is kinda fascinating.
In fact, speaking of the last installment, Acclaim signed a deal with a long-gone Wrestling-focused TV channel in my area to promote the game. Makes me think how they even got the money to do so...
