Troops backing Cambodian First Premier Hun Sen claimed another victory against rival royalist forces on Friday, after securing the northern town of Samrong.
However, top Funcinpec commander Nhek Bunchhay claimed his troops were still in control of Samrong.
APTV has exclusive pictures of Samrong - which appears to be overrun with soldiers representing Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party (CPP).
Troops backing Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party (CPP) were bringing in more reinforcements to the Samrong area on Friday.
The CPP troops appear to be forcing Funcinpec soldiers - who back Hun Sen's rival, Prince Norodom Ranariddh - into a final stand at the Thai border.
These armoured personnel carriers (APCs) fire sporadically at opponents, but there is no return of fire.
While they wait for the next confrontation, CPP soldiers live off the land one kilometre outside Samrong.
Now that the fighting has died down, residents are returning to the town.
About seventy to eighty people were seen going back to their homes.
It is believed that the refugees tried to cross into Thailand but found the border closed to them.
Some of the returnees claim they were forced to leave the Samrong area with retreating Funcinpec soldiers and Khmer Rouge forces.
They told CPP soldiers that Funcinpec troops numbered only 400 and were low on ammunition.
They also said there were only about 100 Khmer Rouge troops left.
Samrong was expected to be the site of a major stand by Funcinpec troops, which still claim to be in control of the area.
After a contest that lasted only several days, however, it seems increasingly clear that it's become another defeat for Funcinpec.
The royalist forces are losing both men and equipment, like this tank which was immobilised during initial struggle for the town.
