    • @LearnEnglishLab
      @LearnEnglishLab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Hi Juhi, that's something I do in class. I do it because it might be confusing to some students if I read "Our blank is being painted." But if you're going to read a blank outside of a classroom, I suggest saying just 'blank' with a slight pause :)

    I think home is like abode of living , whereas house is the technically the physicality of the place where you live , home is your philological attachment to abode of living , just like when you saying “ MOM “ it is emotional attachment to your mother , when you say mother it is simply a technical term to explain the relationship , the same way House is an technically term .thank you brother for your insight of this term , your are doing a great show.

  • @mk35975

    Hello Ganesh Master .... I have a query related to first example of practice question where the emphasize is not on the type of building. So, why house is preferred over home? Moreover, the boat or the trailer or the flat in a apartment or the house could be painted, where one of these could be my home as per the explanation.

    • @LearnEnglishLab
      @LearnEnglishLab  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the first practice question, "Our house is being painted", the focus is the physical aspect of the house (the walls, the roof etc.). That's why _house_ is correct. If a boat or a trailer is being painted, we would need to say, "My boat/trailer is being painted" because we need to indicate the physical aspect of it. So we cannot use _home_ :)

    • @LearnEnglishLab
      @LearnEnglishLab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Nikitha, you can improve your speaking by yourself to some extent. Some useful methods are practicing along with English language films or TV shows, talking to yourself on various topics (even recording yourself), learning new vocabulary and using it in conversation. But the best way to improve your speaking is by practicing with other people. Either find a spoken English class where students are encouraged to speak or start a speaking practice group with your friends. Even if you only meet for an hour once a week with your friends, it will still help you improve your speaking fluency.

    • @LearnEnglishLab
      @LearnEnglishLab  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The question uses "home" because it is not known whether you live in a house or an apartment. So, "home" covers both.

    • @LearnEnglishLab
      @LearnEnglishLab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      'House' refers to the building, so if I said "Smoking isn't allowed in this house", the house may not be mine. But if I said, "I never smoke at home" - I mean that I don't smoke in MY house.

    what could be the possible reasons for why not to use it

    • @LearnEnglishLab
      @LearnEnglishLab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Waseem, I'm happy to know you are finding the lessons useful. The word 'home' can be used as a noun or as an adverb. In this sentence:
      1. "Ali is at home." - 'home' is a noun - it refers to a building, i.e. a person's house. You can also say "Ali is at his house." (same meaning but it's less common to say this). But in the next sentence:
      2. "I'm going home." - 'home' is not a noun, it's an adverb. It's like saying "I'm going there" - 'there' is an adverb. Note that you would NOT say "I'm going to there." We don't use prepositions before adverbs. This is why we don't use 'to' before 'home'.
