    The greatest of all time, how easy was that with 63kg. To win on all 4 days of the spring carnival in 1930 is testament to how much of legend this horse is. Taking nothing away from Winx & Black Caviar, neither of those could have achieved this amazing feat.

      @marknorris1381 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      100% correct. Winx and Black Caviar were limited to specific distances. Phar Lap wasn't. Greatest horse to race in Australia, on a different level altogether to most that have raced in Australia, Winx and Black Caviar included.

      @@marknorris1381 He won 37 from 51. He was beaten in 2 of 3 Melbourne Cups. Great horse but he was beaten. Winx won her last 33 straight and would have failed in a Melbourne Cup but why would she have run in one? I have no doubt she was superior at 1600-2000m, just as Phar Lap was at longer trips and Black Caviar was over sprint trips. There's a lot of romance about Phar Lap, not the least the nonsense about American gangsters killing him. It's a childish argument, much the same as we blamed the Yanks for killing Les Darcy after Australia disowned him.

    Phar Lap was sold at NZs premier yearling sales iat Trentham. He was out of condition when he arrived in Australia because of a particularly rough crossing by ship, across the Tasman. Yes, he had warts on his nose, very common in young horses. He was NZ bred, no taking away from that, but can't we just marvel and celebrate a truly majestic horse, of the likes we may never see again?

      He would have been just another nag because the lame NZers didn't have a clue. The trainer saw his breeding lineage, bought him and shipped him back to Oz. Did not start in a race in NZ. After he won races in Oz the Kiwis started claiming him.

      You'd have to compare what weights they carried respectively etc and why compare a 1930's to 1970's horse it's like pulling the rug out from under Babe Ruth

    • @marknorris1381
      @marknorris1381 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Depends under what circumstances. Secretariat was close to unbeatable in juvenile races, no doubt and may be the fastest individual race racehorse ever. But if you were to race both horses in 5 group races over a 15 day period and throw in a two miler just for good measure, Secretariat might just fold under that sort of pressure, and probably by about the 3rd or 4th race. Having looked at his race record his starts were spaced at a minimum of 10 days to 2 week intervals. Phar Lap did exactly the above over 15 days at distances from 8 furlongs to two miles and won all five races.

      Thi 1:47 s was 1930 bare in mind. Tracks, horse fittings, jockeys are all subject to "modern technology". Pharlap was "naturally" fast
