  • Produced by A. Shrader's Son, part of the Scovill Manufacturing Company, this industrial film promotes the use of free air services for automobile service stations, to increase customer loyalty and sales of tires, valve caps, and other equipment. The company, which held the patent on the automobile tire valve, also produced affiliated equipment including air valves, pumps, and automatic pneumatic equipment. Shrader's "certified air service" as presented in the film, was a huge cash cow for the company and its affiliates.
Founded in 1844 by German immigrant August Schrader, the company’s humble roots began in a small machine shop in Manhattan, New York. Eventually A. Schrader’s Son had a huge factory at 791 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn. The growing popularity and improved technology of the bicycle had led to pneumatic tires on bikes. A. Schrader’s Son developed and patented the first pneumatic tire valve, the same valve that is used on every bicycle and automobile tire today. It’s still called a Schrader valve.
The start of the film shows part of Los Angeles including Black's Indian Store (:37) located on East Adams Street.
Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. My aunt had a Buick just like the one at 5:44 in her back yard for many years. She loved that car and eventually gave it away. I should have bought it back in the 80s

Free air. One of those items that disappeared with self-service.

Back when a company really backed up their product with serious sales aids and instructional and promotional material.

It is a 1950s film as several of the cars are 1953 models.

2:10 In real life, I think Don Johnson would have stopped Jack Brown about a minute in and asked him just exactly where this story is going

Just a typo, that can happen, I'm sure the uploader is aware it has a C in it.

That’s a great way to fill up a tyre with that formula.

The old bias-ply tires with TUBES 😄 the air molecules are too small and wind up escaping through the tubes over a of time... Modern tubeless, beaded tires-rims do not increase or decrease that much when in use. Nowadays you may see about a pound rise and pressure with some heat buildup that's about it. Also you noticed that today's tires are anywhere from 32 to 35 PSI not in the mid or upper 20s like they used to be.
