What a profoundly concussive episode on a sandwich that represents the platonic ideal of the beef animal. What really makes rye the perfect choice of bread here though is the ethereal aromatics brought about by the intense maillard reaction. A truly quintessential food object.
nailed it lol
hahahhahaha
Incredibly well done!
Cool Whip ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!!
QUINTESSENTIAL.
"THE BEEF ANIMAL"
My new favourite.
hahahahaha
"the Important Animals"
I die.
Boeuf. We call cow meat beef because of the french. If the meat is named differently from the animal, it's because of the french. Beef, pork, mutton, venison...
what a cow amarite
how maillard is the rye platonism
hahaha you are killing me
This comment section fucking kills me. This is why I watch Nick's videos ahah
The host, every episode, tries to force a description of the restaurant and every time the owner says not really. Just let the owners give their history of the business, untainted.
Roger Lu yeah you could see the dude getting really annoyed
Not really
No instead of saying, what kind of restaurant is this(which is a boring question) he makes am ignorant question which is corrected by the owner. This emphasizes on the owner's authenticity as the host can't guess what the restaurant is and also helps to make the video more informative.
Or get this its all very scripted and you can tell if you have even half a brain cell
"The beef animal."
Oh, you must be thinking of a dog.
krip
an extremely concussive episode
If you're going to the Millburn Deli, you have to try the Godfather. Growing up in Millburn, it's basically the only reason most of us ever went to the deli
Millburn deli is insane completely agree
I'm a fan of the Gobbler myself. Thanksgiving dinner in sandwich form.
Formally from Livingston and I concur. We have like 4-5 delis in town and everyone still prefers Millburn Deli.
"turkey, cole slaw, Russian dressing, it's a classic. People come in, they order a Ted Danson!"
"However, we have more important animals to eat, let's move on to the ham."
"That's good, but I might prefer the turkey."
Make up your mind, Nick.
Nick is such a ham.
He prefers beef over turkey but turkey over boiled ham. Makes sense. Hes indirectly telling the owners to use better ham, German is my fav.
t500010000 I think he's saying they should be roasting their own Ham..they already do their own Turkey and Roast Beef..
He generally prefers ham in sandwiches, but happened to like the turkey one more of the two after having tasted it in this particular one.
You're just being a bit dumb.
I actually appreciate the honesty. I mean, you get videos like this on TH-cam where everything is just so amazing, even if they're eating some shitty fast food burger. But here he was willing to say that the ham wasn't so great, which I don't think is something that's easy to do when you're visiting a beloved business and were hosted by the owners themselves.
LOL at "BEEF ANIMAL" and "CONSTITUENT COMPONENTS"..
constituent component, such a superfluous description. Essentially part part
want some bread and meat with your mayonnaise
Saul Gewddman which is just mayonnaise
How platonic is the slop?
It's utterly exquisite
profoundly concussive
Had a prototypically profound architecture.
quintessential
Ideally platonic.
Say what you want about Nick but his passion for food shines through. His word choice is unique but no one else uses it. His videos are great.
I wish there were more Deli's around instead of just grocery stores.
For all those in the comments saying “this isn’t a sloppy Joe” I have two things to say:
1. This Sloppy Joe predates the hamburger/sauce version.
2. If you’ve never had one, you don’t know what you’re missing. They’re amazing.
These sandwiches are really good. I’ve had Sloppy Joe’s from both Milburn and Town Hall. Unless I’m mistaken, there’s kind of a friendly rivalry between the two businesses. They’re only about 4 miles apart. Certain customers swear that one is better than the other and are very loyal to their favorite one. Like I said, I’ve had both and they’re both extremely good. I couldn’t say which one is better.
@@Whoopdido777 The best one is whichever one is in front of me.
@@vinnygi Probably a good way to describe them. I don’t live in that area, so I had to get them shipped to me via Goldbelly, but if I did live in that area and I was in the mood for one I definitely wouldn’t pass by one place just to get one from the other place. They’re basically equally as good in my opinion, so I’d go to whichever place I was closer to at the time.
I'm a millburn native and let me tell you that deli is freaking amazing. Anything you get there is dank. Sloppy joes is a huge staple
Bo Brown godfather🔥
Same bud, My favorite joe is a Friday
I agree best food ever
Millburn resident and the godfadda is insane
jay ray all the way
normal owners are owners. hipster owners with handlebar mustaches, waistcoats and cravats are "proprietors."
I remeber a place called Old World Deli in Binghamton, NY that made a sandwich like this called Dickinson Special. Triple decker Reuben on marble rye, swiss cheese, and with coleslaw instead of sourkrought. They may have used thousand island instead of Russian dressing. Looks good
My brother told me quite recently that this is the town where I used to live right before Friendswood.
While living in NJ, I lived on a cul-de-sac.
not so far away from celebritys like Buddy Valastro & Joseph "Rev Run" Simmons
How evocative was the platonic, maillard reaction?
Tony Joseph it was very umami
chicoktc Dude, I died
Eater needs to post all of Nicks new videos on Mondays so everyone can start their week with a concussive amount of profound joy.
That fucking camera is clearly the platonic ideal.
CJ’s Deli in Madison, NJ is the BEST Roast “Beef Sloppy Joe” is the original.
100% agree and in my opinion, CJ’s is the ONLY place to get them. They are incredible and haven’t changed in 30 years.
Component, component, component in every single episode of the meat show is component
Same sandwiches from deli in Morristown...also in New Jersey. Left to go to college in Ohio where I was introduced to tomato version. Prefer deli meat, hands down!
I've had ham, turkey and roast beef Joes. All fine sandwiches for sure but I prefer the pastrami Sloppy Joe. 👍
Alright, settle down y’all. I got this. NJ born and bred here and worked in the deli biz for a lot of years before defecting for higher ed and ultimately, a job (not in the deli biz, but I digress … )
The Sloppy Joe is triple decker rye, ham and swiss on the bottom, turkey and cole slaw up top. Russian dressing all around. I said what I said.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Casual outfit Nick is better than formal outfit Nick.
Turkey is wonderful and American !
In NYC and north Jersey a sloppy Joe is always cold cuts, coleslaw and Russian dressing generally on rye bread.
This place looks awesome. Great video👍
Las Vegas Carnivore it is awesome
Clicked on the video and it's the deli I drove past yesterday on my way home from Morristown.
Nick is world class at describing his food
Who else watches food videos when they're hungry and all it does is just make themselves more hungry..... just me?
Vito W I watch nick videos when I am quenching with the most supple thirst for his unctuous, exquisite vocabulary
Looks very clean, I like that.
show us the part where the food is actually consumed and not thrown into the bin
'pigs and the beef animal' - it's called a cow, Nick. A cow.
Awesome video! Comments are halarious and nick is just a joy to watch
"More important animals to eat." I like that.
ugh I haven't had a sloppy joe form nj for a long time. turkey and corned beef are my personal favourites.
Nick is so working class 1950's industry. Definitely not a hipster, and definitely has a lot in common with people who frequent these places.
Corned beef is crying to me on this. I love roast beef with cole slaw. HEY... any of those Brooklyn hipsters doing Loose Meat sandwiches yet? TOO GOOD
Stop hating on turkey. If you prepare right, it tastes amazing
Milburn Deli has some very good Sloppy Joe’s - almost as good as the Avenue Deli a couple miles away in New Providence. Avenue has been making the same sandwich for 75 years passed down from the same family. It’s kind of a New Jersey secret - everybody knows the rules.
this guy is really proud of his leica
In my area there's a diner that serves a great Mac-n-Cheese...but instead of the type of Mac-n-Cheese you're accustomed to it's a tossed green salad with bacon & blue cheese.
How phantasmagorical was the flavor?
omg i love this place
My hometown!!!!! Love their sandwiches, sloppy Joe's & Millburn! If you're ever in the area, check out their Godfather and the Gobbler as well. Go Millers!
I've always liked this guy, just good vibes, who cares if he uses cool words, its not pedantic in my opinion, just his point of view which actually gives ME a better idea of what its like, i want a review, obviously saying meat is good and salty is cool but im really watching people eat food to review it in an entertaining way...which this is
How was the tensile strength of the roast beef?
Well....yes and no. That means no
You went to the wrong deli for sloppy joes, Eater. Town Hall Delicatessen in South Orange, two towns over from the deli in the video. The true birthplace of the sloppy joe!
i bet the host goes home every night and eats steamed chicken with cous cous every night
CJ’s Deli in Madison, NJ makes THE BEST Roast Beef Sloppy Joe!
Mic drop!
Garden Therapy bs millburn deli is better
“We have more important animals to eat” this HAS to to on an EATER t-shirt.
i grew up on those sloppy joes, i miss them so much!!!!
NJ sloppy joe should have have two meats on it. The ones I've had were 2 meat triple deckers. That's the way they were made by the deli that invented it.
When they say other place in NJ, they mean Town Hall.
I wish I old go and get the roast beef right now but delivery to Canada would be a bit expensive.
Love your show. Hoboken NJ. Vito's Deli....The Cuban and the Roast Beef. ..try them...enough said.
Lived in jersey my entire life... never once heard of this sandwich in my life.... gotta be a central/south jersey thing
Yankel Tannenbaum its a north jersey thing smh millburn is in north jersey ik bc im from there
Do they dry age the sandwiches?
As soon as he takes the first bite, you can see him enter descriptive mode.
I've been living in NJ for 15 years and I never knew about this.
Own restaurant
Get call from Eater "We'd like to film an episode at your restaurant"
Me "Fuck yeah Dining on a Dime is Awesome"
"No it's the Meat Show"
"shit, well, yeah OK"
"You cant classify us" "We're a Millburn deli"
The sandwhich conforms like a dumpling
The Beef Animal 😂😂
CJ’s Deli in Madison, NJ has the BEST Beef Sloppy Joe. Just Saying
Saul Gewddman Blaspheme.
Favorite part 1:30
Looks awesome! :)
God i'm craving me some profound turkey sandwiches in which each constituent component represents the platonic ideal rn
You should just call those mayonnaise sandwiches. Not hard to tell he didn't like any of them.
"depressingly is the most popular version" This guy thinks he is "The" benchmark or what?
I miss the meat show so much
TRUTH BOMB @1:31
Where did you find him?
The beef animal...also called cow by plebs.
Great video. Just found your channel, I subbed.
what would you say are your favorite 3 sandwiches
Gotta say I think Nick stepped down with the weird commentary. Well done nick. Good episode
Don't mind me just here for the comments
Hmmmmm. I'm hungry for the roast beef sloppy joe right now!!! I could go there this week... It's max of 70 miles away...
Yoooooo I get sandwiches from here all the time
So it's Cuban inflected?
"Every constituent component" I'm dying.
Why?
I seriously don't get why that's such a ridiculous thing to say.
Bragmans deli in Newark, Nj has the best sloppy joes my favorite is the Janice
You need to come to Montreal for an amaizing porchetta sandwich from a small family run butcher shop. Marchigiani mtl.
Jersey has the best sloppy joes!!!
You are gonna start a lot of fights in Jersey picking just one sloppy Joe! There are lots of places who have great ones.
Saying that people who prefer rare meat are civilized...the irony
Explain the irony
jack yea compared to people who buy expensive steaks and filets and order them well done or they cook the hell out if them
I am sorry if i live in an uncivilized society where people prefer e-coli free intestines instead of rare beef flavour
That's just ignorance. Incidence of e. coli due to rare beef consumption is incredibly rare, particularly if it's well-sourced. Don't believe the fearmongering and enjoy some beef in its ideal state.
jack I thought e coli was eradicated in the states lol only if you get crappy grade f beef from the poorest country
can someone actually link to a video where he says "the platonic ideal"?
vash47 the video is called "what makes the perfect burger: a tribute to Josh ozersky"
Makes me think of horseradish I do LOVE horseradish!!!!
wow, I can't believe this is the only kind of sloppy joe you can get in the entire state!
My god this is definitely entering my road trip stops..
AriesMale88 its really good especially the godfather
I go there all the time really cool
It looks better than a big Mac
No concussive crunches?
P R O F O U N D
