    **ABOUT THIS VIDEO **
    If you're looking for a small mixer for your rig, the Yamaha MG06x is a beautiful little unit. This little guy features two mic preamps with pads, 2-band EQ, & high pass filters; 2 stereo instrument channels; phantom power; three stereo outputs; and even onboard delay and reverb. For only $130-ish this mixer is a great little thing to pull out of your pocket in a pinch, whether you're at a gig or in the studio. I've even mounted it to my pedalboard at times and on certain tours!! So the small footprint is definitely a plus too. And the audio quality is stellar and impeccable. I own and use the Yamaha MG06x myself and I highly recomment this mixer.

    Hi Yusif, thanks a lot for your great video. I have just subcribed to your channel. I have just one question about the 3/4 stereo input. (Because there is no Mono/ Stereo button like there is for input 1/2.) Are you hearing a Stereo output, I mean imagine if there was a balance knob and L was set maximum on the left and R as the maximum on the right ? Or do you hear a mono result as a sommation of L+R as if these two knobs were in middle position ? I plan to use the MG06X for karaoke and have my music source one 3/4 but, I do not want it to sound mono. Thank you very much for your help..

    • @YusifRefae
      @YusifRefae  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure if it sums 3/4 to Mono, I would assume yes. On the other hand, I run karaoke on this once a week using a single speaker as an output, so I'm not concerned with that. But for your purposes I think it should work great. Nobody will notice, even if it is summed to mono. You will still hear the music normally, it won't sound weird. Good luck!

    An acoustic guitar with pickup can be plugged into mixer but can you use the FX effects. Am I right in assuming that the guitar must not be plugged into the mic 1 & 2 inputs because of the signal sensitivity?

    • @YusifRefae
      @YusifRefae  ปีที่แล้ว

      that's a good question. it depends on your pickup and how loud you want your guitar to be. if your pickup is a magnet i think you can go straight into the mic inputs and crank it up to stadium volumes. if your pickup is a mic that might cause feedback, although if you use one of those rubber thingies it might be ok at low to medium levels. in either case i wouldn't recommend going straight in as the best option. Zoom makes a great acoustic pedal for under $200. I use a small acoustic amp that has FX and was in the same price range. It lets you plug in a vocal mic too! I use it to do karaoke and stuff all the time! You can plug an electric with a SansAmp in too. For small to medium cafes, pubs, restaurants, etc you could probably get away with it tho. This mixer is just not the greatest for acoustic guitar. Acoustic is so hard to do live, I've done it a lot, it never sounds like it does on your high end mics in the studio with perfect precision it almost always sounds like a cheap imitation of the real thing, even when i see super pro shows, it's just the physics of the instrument. part of why the electric guitar revolutionized music!

      Hi there Not Neal :) I took a look at those headphones and I think they will be fine. The Yamaha MG06x has a dedicated headphone amp that drives a TRS output socket. So far every set of ear buds or headphones I've plugged in have sounded great. Now, if you want to use this thing to reference a mix or master a track, I'd say I'm not sure. But for basic tracking & production, DJing, live sound, etc you're good to go I would say. But, don't listen TOO loud on those phones my friend! Save your ears a bit :))) Hope this helps

    • @NealNot
      @NealNot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@YusifRefae Haha thanks Yusif! Yea I have sensitive ears, I couldn't blast something if I wanted to. Not for a long period of time anyways. lol
      If I may ask, why do you think I wouldn't be able to use this for referencing and mixing? Do you think the mixers amp will only give me volume but not the audio quality I need to get the best performance out of these 250 Ohm headphones? Also, out of the headphones you've tried, have you ever used 250 Ohm headphones with this mixer? If so, at loud, but not painfully loud volumes, did you hear any hiss or noise floor at any point?
      Basically, what I'm trying to do is, I have 2 Yamaha 502 drum modules that I've combined to make one big prog electric drumset, and the L and R output of both modules would then go into channels 3/4 and 5/6 of this mixer. Then I want to listen to playback of both with the headphone out. The only problem is, I want them to be able to power those 250 Ohm headphones, then to record them, I will be going from the L and R output into an audio interface, or splitting the headphone out to headphones on one end, and 1/4 to 3.5mm cable on the other, that will go into the 3.5mm mic in port of my mac. So, I need to these headphones to be able to have enough volume, but then there's the quality aspect of the headphones, can this mixers amp output enough power to be able to "open up" these headphones, as they say and give me the great audio quality I need. The reason I need great audio quality, is because I will sometimes track drums for a song on them, and I'll be editing the drums right on the module, that will then go into the song, and I won't be able to edit them any more than normal once I've recorded them. Like I can eq them and stuff, but I mean like the tones and textures of each drum sound, I want them to fit the song perfect, so I need headphones that are meant for critical listening and mixing, so I need an amp that can allow me to do that and in good quality. I would get 80 Ohm headphones, but idk if 80 Ohms are really meant for critical listening? I heard only headphones that are 250 Ohms and up are meant for that. So I'm a bit lost there. I mean.. IF I can find 80 Ohm headphones that are extremely flat, and wont make my hears sweat. lol That's very important too. I'd jump on those, but I haven't found any yet.
      Thanks for your advice though man! I really appreciate it!

    • @YusifRefae
      @YusifRefae  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NealNot so there’s a lot here haha I’ll try to help you as best I can. In general you shouldn’t mix or master using headphones. You should use speakers. Headphones can be great as a secondary reference but not as a primary mixing or mastering tool. This is coming from someone who loves to track, record, and produce on headphones. Sadly, the way the physics work, mixes done on speakers in a tuned room translate best to the variety of listening environments out there in the world that your mix will be going into.
      I can’t speak to the 250 Ohm thing, so I’m not sure there, sorry. I wouldn’t split the headphones out with a Y-cable, that will typically give like a 10dB reduction in signal (sounds half as loud).
      Ya, as I’m reading more of your questions, I’d say forget about the Ohm thing. There is a lot of snake oil, hype, and marketing done by manufacturers, so be wary of that. The impedance of your headphones doesn’t really matter. Finding a pair that you vibe with and getting familiar with them, getting used to the way they sound relative to your speakers is way more important.
      Also, mixing and EQing your tracks on some speakers in a room that’s treated will be a million times better than mixing on headphones. I know this might not be the answer you want to hear, and it took me years to understand this, but mixing primarily on headphones is a big no-no in the mixing/production world :))) Like I said, they are good to use when you get tired of listening to your speakers, to get a different point of view on your mix. They let you hear details you might have missed or overlooked using speakers. But headphones are not necessary or even preferable to mix with as a primary tool. Your bread and butter needs to be some good studio monitor speakers.
      FWIW I use Shure SRH 840 for this purpose, to double-check mixes, and for tracking and recording. I like that the ear phone padding and cable are replacable, so that I only have to spend $15 to $20 when they wear out, rather than dropping hundreds on a new pair of phones.
      But I always use speakers to do most of the heavy mixing work. In my experience the Sennheiser headphones wear out too quickly. Also, for headphones, the frequency range is more important than the impedance. The Shures I mentioned go from 5Hz to 25kHz. Normal human hearing is like 30Hz to 18kHz at best, when you’re a little kid LOL. (high frequency hearing reduces significantly with age, it's a sad fact LOL). So, anything that’s in the 20Hz to 20kHz range is gonna be great for double-checking a mix. That's what I look for with speakers & phones: 20Hz to 20,000Hz range. Here’s a link for ya to those headphones, I hope this stuff helps ;)) But ya my phones sound perfectly fine and the same with the Yamaha headphone amp so I wouldn't get too caught up about the impedance.

      Good to hear you've got your TV audio working, I've got my TV hooked up using this mixer as well. If you want to plug in your mic, you'll have to run it into either channel 1 or channel 2, as those channels have preamps. The Notepad's effect sends are pre-fader (or pre-volume-knob since there are no faders), which means I can get a 100% wet chorus+delay for the Superego+, which adds like a synth pad. if you're referring to a Zoom H4, that is a standalone recorder. you can record WAV or other audio files onto the H4 and sync to video later. an interface is what would take the output of the mixer into the computer. it's a neat little solution to add this little mixer to an interface. doing so expands the capabilities of an interface like the scarlett or any small two channel box (there are a ton these days, SSL have a nice one out) by giving you more external control. i hope this helps

Oh wait, I stand corrected, I just checked Amazon, it says there's a 4 in/2 out USB interface on the PRO version. This is a new feature, I guess. And yes you can play along to music, but there is no dedicated aux in, so you have to use up channels 5 and 6 (a stereo input channel) to put the music system into the mixer. HOWEVER: if you're going to hook up your electric guitar directly i STRONGLY advise you to include an AMP SIMULATOR or speaker simulator in your effects chain, otherwise your tone will sound pretty bad. Going directly into a soundboard with something like a SansAmp GT2 (what I use for this purpose) is night and day when compared to a DI pedalboard without a simulator. @@vecchiuz2143 ok to do this I think you'll need a Reamper (check my video on that) since a microphone needs to bounce down to instrumental level signal go through guitar pedals correctly. With a reamper this should work fine. It's a bit unconventional and companies like TC Helicon make 'vocal' pedals specifically for this problem. Those would work with your flute. Actually, this mixer has reverb and delay on it, so unless you need something different FX-wise, why not just plug the condenser mic in and use the onboard FX? There are a lot of options

      @@YusifRefae you are right!
      Another Option could be:
      Enter with condensor mic in a tube pre amp (it is also good to warm a bit the flute) or just a phantom supply than enter to pedals and than directly to audio interface. No dry Signal recorded.
      What do you think about that?
      I dont want to use the preset fx, i like much better the Sound from the pedals.

      12 Volts, 1.5 Amps wall wort (you could get away with 1 Amp probably)

    The moment you tap something with a screwdriver it stops being new. You just devalued that by mixer by at least 50% of its value. One tap, that's all it takes...
