Loved this video, excellent person doing it. I am an artist and can relate to everything you say. And I have always loved jade and wear it all the time.
“I didn’t choose jade…” doesn’t sound corny at all. We have a tradition/saying over here along the same vein, where you don’t find the pounamu, it finds you.
I have an enormous collection I inherited..jadeite and nephrite..alot of varieties and sizes of rough material..how do I determine how to price the pieces? I have a block 25lbs and others 7 pounds ect..varieties like moss in snow..honey..frogskin..apple..siberian..lavender jadeite..white ..green..blue..ect..roughly 130+ pounds
Nephrite is considered "soft" jade as opposed to jadeite and also considered more valuable. Jadeite's value is considered greater than nephrite because of its scarcity.
I want to buy some of your work and I want to know more about you and your work I think I have a large Boulder of jade I found on a prospect trip I want someone that’s sees a lot of jade to look at as well . Any advise ?
Cool video my friend, I love jade it's a really great medium to work with. Has any one ever told you that you kinda look like Adam Sandler? Lol anyways thanks for sharing.
Very beautiful, selling price? What is your sales website. I am Chinese and live in Houston. I like to collect jade, amber and beeswax in various colors.
If anyone is looking for incredibly high quality and amazing jadeite, I recently discovered a beautiful deposit in northern California near where I live, no need to gamble on unknown stones all the jade is visible and great material. My number is 7073766961.
@6:35 I think that if Matthew is referring to a stone's "cleavage" traits, then he has mixed up the 2 kinds of jade or nephrite and jadeite because jadeite has interlocking fibers which makes it tougher than nephrite. Nephrite cleaves cleanly because it lacks the fibrous texture of jadeite jade.
no nephrite is the fibrous one. Jadeite is harder by 0.5 on Mos scale than nephrite but nephrite is twice as durable as jadeite (toughness index 240000 vs 120000). So jadeite can scratch nephrite but nephrite is harder to break due to is toughness caused by interwoven fibrous crystals. I have nephrite pebbles from Hotan and just by looking at the interwoven fibers under the light u can feel its very tough.
You ought to look up Jades Art History because you’re not discovering or “inventing the wheel” when it pertains to this craft. The following website is an example www.ancient.eu/article/1088/jade-in-ancient-china/. Alaskans also create Jade artwork. It’s cool that you self taught yourself then pursued art in college
fr "theres not like this long tradition in china or whatever" china has been cutting jade for hundreds to THOUSANDS of years as have native american peoples as well
Paul set a wheel up in the back yard and gave us our first lesson.I'm pretty sure I'm the guilty party as far as taking Matt on his first hunt.He used to stay up all night on the Dremel carving!Bottom line... it's all Pauls fault!Bwhahahahaha!

@Bikta Grainy usually indicates seedy and still can bear a waxy appearance, whereas jadeite is more glassy looking to me...more watery, perhaps?🤔

Jade not from china
jade don't really worth much here in usa ,, if quality is high enough ,, sell it in china will bring you tens of millions ..
