Iv been using mine daily ,trying to get a long standing stretch on it twice a day for 5mins at a time. Im a runner and find its helping with plantar fascia n calf issues

Hey brent! Great explanations as usual. I heard you mention early in the video about having support along the whole foot to avoid stretching the intrinsic flexors that support the medial arch. So avoiding that common calf stretch we see where the foot is wedged up against the wall. Would that foot stretch where the foot is wedged against the wall still be bad for someone who had plantar fasiitis? (As in-would they be getting a plantar fascia stretch in addition to stretching the calf?)
Absolutely Matt... Pain does not equal tightness. Plantar fasciitis is not a symptom of tight plantar fascia, and or intrinsic muscles of the feet. It is more likely that the intrinsic muscles of the feet are underactive, resulting in pronation and the plantar fascia is being "over-stretched" all day, leading to inflammation. Stretching against the wall relieves tension leading to an immediate decrease in symptoms, but makes the condition worse making the pain that follows increase. Assess movement, analyze dysfunction... create a corrective program, re-assess. Never try to mash an intervention into a diagnosis. This common logical fallacy in our work is the equivalent of giving someone with a sorethroat cough syrup, only to find out they have a strep' infection. Make sense? Dr. B2
Hi, I just found your videos and find them very informative. I cannot find the other video on calf stretching to which you are referring to in this clip. If you can give me the name or the link, I will really appreciate it.
+oganotluibov Hey Oganotluibov, The other video can be found on our website - brentbrookbush.com/ - Membership is 12.99/month, but I think you will find it well worth it with all we have to offer. Dr. B2
I see its 19.99 now :( are there ever deals besides the year membership? Also I have an excessive forward lean so I am starting with my calves. What do you consider to be too much when it comes to stretching/releasing etc? Like how many minutes a day per calf?
Carol LordHi Brent, My right foot drops when stand on the toes (like ballet dancing), no pain whatsoever, and the calf is very tight (getting tighter over the years) and starts to show when walking, but my left foot is completely normal. I went to specialists with MRI, no one can tell what was wrong with my left foot. One doctor suspected it might be minor childhood polio damage. Can this exercise help? Appreciated!1 second ago•
Can tightness in these two muscle groups cause pain in the back outer part of my knee when stretching... I notice my outer hammie is tense but my inner is lose when doing a belt stretch if you know what im sayin. I have also sprained my ankles more then a couple times each ankle and never got it looked at like with an mri but never had any purple discoloration and was playing like it never happened. I just have very restricted dorsi flexion and its affecting everything up the chain.
Hey Destroyer of Worlds, I am guessing you are not a professional, so I am going to try to lead you in the right direction. It's not the exercise I am showing in most videos are complicated, but they are organized and titled by specific muscle or modality. This stretch is going to help with your issues and you need to keep doing it. You would also want to look up "Lower Leg SA Static Release". The other exercises you want to look up are related to a muscle called the "Biceps Femoris" - you need to find the "Static Release" video and the "Active Stretch" video. Hope that helps, B2
I'm not a licenced psysio but I know a lot about anatomy and function ahaha. More then the average guy. So I have tried the calve release but it doesn't do anything for me, and my pt told me today that I might be built like this. Like I have very little internal hip rotation and cant touch my toes without pain that's basically it.
Destroyer of Worlds Try the "Hip Mobilization (Self-administered)" - th-cam.com/video/tmFHNyGByQc/w-d-xo.html and "Ankle Mobilization (Self-administered)" - th-cam.com/video/5tLAKC1kZBk/w-d-xo.html Then do your release and stretching...keep me posted. B2
Hey Yojax, A better question would be why would you want to target the soleus? Keep in mind that if your soleus is tight and your gastrocnemius is not, your soleus will be the limiting structure in the stretch above. Simply, this stretch is effective for both. Dr. B2
Brent Brookbush thanks for the reply! My soleus and Achilles are the culprits behind my lack of dorsiflexion. So do you think putting my knee into slight flexion while doing this stretch is not really necessary?
Exactly, it is just not necessary. The shortest structures will be targeted during the stretch, there is no way around it. (for the record, your achilles tendon is not contractile tissue... i.e. it does not get tight, nor does it need to be targeted during stretching.) Dr. B2
Most likely the outside of the shoe will be worn, and you will almost never see the inside of a shoe worn. This has to do with the propensity of the foot to pronate (not supinate), and for pronators to turn their feet out and "heel strike" with more of the outside of their foot. Dr. B2
i found your style of video great and informative! can you provide link to the wall stretch calf exercise you speak of in your video? i searched your channel but could not find it

Question can this be done on the slant board with torn meniscus
Brent, how do you make sure you are not stretching the TP during this stretch if your focus is on TP activation?
By promoting inversion, I believe it would take a fair amount of dorsiflexion and eversion to stretch the posterior tibialis.

Brent Brookbush Okay noted! Thanks again
Have a slant board on my CMas list! I have torn my calf already, don't want to injure my Achilles!
A little bit to fit in a stocking, but I am sure it will fit under the tree ;-)
Couldn't think of a better gift.
Happy Holidays,

Why inverted position?
So 9yrs later... Did this friend become the *wife?* She's fine as hell 😇
Hllo brent ...plz tell me if their is overpronation ...
Which side of shoe heel will be reduced
Most likely the outside of the shoe will be worn, and you will almost never see the inside of a shoe worn. This has to do with the propensity of the foot to pronate (not supinate), and for pronators to turn their feet out and "heel strike" with more of the outside of their foot.
