Thanks for the words of encouragement, everybody. I'm shocked and numb from the unexpected attention and praise this video is getting on TH-cam and Reddit. This was a pet project to learn Premiere and de-stress from quarantine. I only expected my curious co-worker to watch this, which is who I made it for. And now, all of this happened... I have some video scripts languishing on my desktop; I didn't have the confidence to push them to fruition. Perhaps it's time to dust them off and get to work.

@@TheAdoringFan Well I'd imagine that they do use some commerical GPUs, but I'd see them using things meant more for work station, rendering, 3D modeling. They'd have quattros along that line or sometimes more powerful.

@@cadmanfox6874 there used to be a bug with the Avenger Titan where you'd get locked in the little cabin/kitchen between the cockpit and cargo bay. The automatic doors just wouldn't open sometimes. The only way to get out was to jump backwards through one of the doors and it would usually glitch you through the door and fix it. I think the fixed it at some point, although, I sold my Avenger a while back, so I'm not 100% positive.

I've been with this Star Citizen project since the start and seeing this presentation made me want to go out and buy it again, well done.
Don't. It's a scam. 8 years. Almost no gameplay loops. Few generic missions. Buggy mess. Single map you can play on. 60 players on the map. Micro-transactions up to 27,000$. Squadron 42, single player component not shown for years because of "spoilers" (somehow not a problem for any other company - only CIG, the scammers). It made millions for the owners of this scam and backers got big d**k in their mouth. Game is maybe 20% completed at this point (and they spend 300 million dollars to arrive at that point in 8 years) and what you have is a buggy nearly unplayable mess. Just don't. There will be free week soon in november. Just by yourself just how shit this project is after 8 years.

Also, i see that argument everywhere, and its incredibly easy to counter:
1: the game they were making in 2013 is not the game they're making now, midway through 2015 they massively increased their scope and goals for the game, leading to them having ot reinvent most of it
2: Their dev numbers are miniscule compared to other *established* game companies like EA and Rockstar. CIG began with just 13 devs and is now estimated to be at 600, a far cry from the thousands of devs larger companies have
3: CIG is attempting something massive that no other company has had the balls to start, as stated in the beggining of the video, if you bothered watching it
4: Every tool to create the game, backsystems, planets, textures, models; had to be handcrafted from scratch, unlike larger companies that had already made resources to modify and fit into their new game.

I don't understand why people are upset by this game not being fully released as yet. It is very clear what the developers are aiming for and the complexities behind it. Regular AAA games take years to be developed...what do we expect with this kind of project? Star Citizen is definitely something to enjoy during its development, and to look forward to upon completion. We should simply enjoy the journey. Awesome video my brother.

@@o-wolf technically the current iteration of star citizen has only been in development since about 2015, since that was when the project, at the communities request, was scaled up and required lots of new novel tech. The reason it's still pretty rough is because the dev team has largely been focused on squadron 42, the single player portion, which is feature complete actually.

I definitely don't think they are lieing about the game they are creating. I do think they have in some instances lied, though, but it's not the first time a developer has done so. I think this game is amazing, and I'm so glad they are still making money. Because they are spending a lot on development; this is already the most expensive game I've ever heard of, and when you play, I think it shows. Of course it's very lacking in some ways still.
They promised too much. 9 years in and it is boring.

I've never played SC but I've followed it with fair to middling interest, and your video captivated me. Keep doing these slice of life videos; they're well-shot and the narration is top tier.

Beware tho, that as of now, SC is still mostly a sight seeing simulator with only barebone gameplay and frequent crashes that often erase your entire inventory, making any economic progression pointless.

@@O-.-O Granted, but don't forget that they basically restarted the project ~6.5 years ago, when they completely reset the scope of the project. Furthermore, games like Red Dead Redemption or GTA have 1000+ people working on them for 5-8 years. Star Citizen had less than 500 for most the time.
@@BlueHans i play SC nearly on a daily base, at least more than once a week. Had no wipe for the last 7-8 months. Sure wipes can always happen, but since they introduced "Long time Persistance" i had no more wipes.

I enjoy playing SC weekly for over 6 years. I've gotten my money back many times over in entertainment and its still not finished. Well done videos like this do a great job explaining why this game is so special to many space sim fans and where we are going.

As in paid for? I pay cig, not the other way around. And I love this game too. Only elite or Eve online come close to the feeling I'm a pilot of cool advanced spacecraft in a multiplayer game. And both of those games are missing tons of the things I love in star citizen right now.

I joined an org, had some fun with other players, and they bought me ships in game. One guy couldn't even afford a game package (45$), and someone gifted him one.

Been a backer since Jan 2014 and those views and those shots above ArcCorp still give me spine chills of optimism and hope for the future of game development.
Might sound a bit wishy washy but have nothing but patience and respect to Chris for bringing such an awesome community of people together. I'm 27 and found myself cruising with an young lass of 67 on a Hammerhead one time! Absolute blast and not something I'll ever find in all my years of Halo, GoW, CoD, Tekken and so on. Truly is a precious thing.
Hardest thing I've found is getting people to get a pc to play it lol.

Great video man! I recall the first time I stepped outside into the vacuum of space in 2013 or so.. it was amazing that we could just exit our ship wherever we wanted. It was such a departure from X3, or Freelancer, Darkstar One, EVE, Elite etc. Felt the same thrill when you went outside of your 325a :)

@@stephenlyon1358 from 2010 until 2015 they were only initiating the project with little funds. Since recently they have over 400 Million USD and i think 7 Studios around the US and Europe. Explain how this is a scam. GTAs Pay2Win & Cyberpunks falls promises are a scam. But the game that has literally built an entire fully simulated star system from the ground up? I dont think so xD

Honestly I'd rather have 3 to 4 solar systems with around 4 planets each with cities and civilizations and having space stations or asteroid mining bases in the solar systems each system containing their own unique quests/jobs and unique factions, I feel like 100+ solar systems is a bit too overkill and will get boring overtime.
Heck, a single system could be fine if they developed the system enough. Like The Expanse, for example.
Problem is they promised exploration gameplay.
They promised that you would have dedicated ships for long voyages into parts of space that have never been visited before. To chart jump points that yeet you through spacetime until you reach a planet no other player has ever set foot on.
Sure you could explore your 12-16 planets and moons but,
1. you wouldn't be the first one to do so, and
2. you would be switching to mostly ground exploration, limiting your use of your awesome exploration vessel.
3. You would never be too far from civilisation and that wouldn't be a very star treky feeling if yaknowwhatImean (if you run out of coffee on your exploration mission and you just send your intern in a snub to get some more, because the nearest truckstop is just one jump point away)
Good point, earlier exploration argument is also valid, just hope there will be a reason to explore. I played No Man's Sky for a while and quite quickly it turns out everything's the same and repetitive, so even 1000 systems are pointless if there's no motivation to go and visit them, nothing to do there which would be justified.
Yes. The biggest reason I stopped playing Elite Dangerous was because it's 100000000 solar systems were all procedurally generated and without any personality. It felt like I was in a very artificial environment. I have my doubts that Star Citizen will be able to pull off 100+ solar systems without having the same problems.
The one which is in game is enough imho.
They should focus on those other things, npcs, missions ai... performamce...
Add more missions and continuously work on other systems later.

A lot of people always joke about how this game will never release or how the devs spend times on thing they shouldn’t be, but god damn is this game intricate and detailed
How is it intricate or detailed? I can name other games that have just about every single thing SC does down pat. If you’ve ever played it you’d know.
Lol, right now elite dangerous is on the same path as Star Citizen with a fraction of the budget and their alpha already looks very promising, in a few years ED will already have a fully set game released for all while SC is struggling to beta test a few planets for the next couple years while scamming people out of their money. I should also mention that the ED dev team only has a fraction of the budget. I should also mention that small game companies with less than a dozen devs have already proven that anyone with the skill and dedication can create a full fledged game without tens of millions of dollars and still get done within 2-4 years on average

Don't get your hopes up. This game has become a bit of a meme with how long it's been in development.
This was fantastic. This is going to be the video I point to when somebody asks, "What is Star Citizen", or "Why Star Citizen". The editing, the explanation, the great voice work, camera work, all great. Capturing even the small simple things like the flowers... Fantastic. Out of all the videos explaining Star Citizen, yours nails it the best. I do hope you make more videos, because this ranks right up there with some of the best. Only Morphologist gets to this level of quality. I really, really hope you do more videos. Make it into a series. There's things like land vehicles, hover bikes, space stations, food, shops, cold weather affecting your visor and health, FPS weapons, caves, prison, etc. that make this game stand out from other games.
My only critiques is...I feel you missed some stuff. Showing the scale of places like New Babbage, the size of space stations, or the size of giant ships like the 890 Jump compared to your 300i. Seeing people ride elevators down, walk along the cities. I'd also point out some of these ships like the Javelin (480 meters in length) are even bigger than even the original starship enterprise (288 meters). There will be ships 2800 meters (1.7 miles), that's nearly twice the size of an Imperial Star Destroyer (1600 meters/ 1 mile). But unlike other games, everything is modeled inside. Down to the sinks, toilets, and engines. But it does say 'a Taste of Star Citizen's Scale' so....hopefully we'll do more in the future. Once again, amazing job. I really would love to see more.

I played this game a few days during the free flight event and it was a load of fun just playing around with all those massive ships and fvking huuuuge space stations. Only if it had more content like missions etc.... xc

Yet it's still an early alpha for a decade... At some point they have to decide if they are the indie dev doing perpetual alphas or if they are a BMW dealer with million dollar marketing budget. I'm pretty sure they have a sociologist team to confuse buyers and backers. Kinda like Growth hacking

Wrong. Google it: there are MANY games that took 10+ years and none of them had halfways the scope of SC nor did they had to start with 40 people, getting up to 500+. Really... the information is out there, google it. The ONLY thing that is different: now you know how tedious game development really is. But it was never that different, not for Cyberpunk, not for RDR nor GTA. They all took over 8 years.
@@Grimshak81 This is true, however most of that dev time may have been on the drawing board and not actual coding. SC has had near 10 years of coding behind it and the game is nowhere near anything that remotely resembles a full game. The development pace seems very slow. It feels like they are spending more time on the visual fidelity of the game rather than actual gameplay. I would much rather see them produce more systems rather than some tech which simulates humidity based on calculations of how it is on earth.... In my view that is just wrong priorities and I really don't think that CR is the right man for the job. He can't lead and produce an actual product. At least it feels like that.

It's not even close to being done and the game has used enough money to buy a small navy while having the audacity to get people to invest thousands of dollars into it while displaying an honestly lacklustre game to show for it

@@shreklol960 The IAE expo and free fly is coming up you should give it a try. crashes are part of an alpha and once you learn to play with the bugs the game becomes much more enjoyable.

I just started the game today, had my eye on it for years but finally took the plunge and got it. Never played anything like this before but I am absolutely loving what I have seen so far.
you have made this comment a year ago. I bought my pledge half a year ago. That probably means that the company is finally making a good progress, cause I have been following game since around 2014. I have bought the game, and I do have stuff to do in it. Not that much really, sometimes it gets boring. But... I did not try many possible professions, I did not try to live as an outlaw and make illegal missions. But I do constantly get back in the verse just to fly around and do a few bounties. There is no such a game as this one. The truth. And that is the reason people buy it. Even at this pity state if the verse, the game offers much more than the other fully released games do. And that is the thing I love about this game. I just hope i live long enough to see the huge verse and probably the Mother Earth!!!
As someone who just started playing Star Citizen about 6 months ago; you have nailed this video! The massive scale of this game and beauty is something to behold. Breathtaking cinematography. Clearly a lot of love went into this video. The scale in this game is almost impossible to convey, until you actually try it out for yourself that is, at which point it just messes with your head.

By the way, the average Star Citizen player has spent at Most, about $60 - $80 on this game, and I have yet to run into one online who says they didn't already get their moneys worth. So you might want to listen to the actual community that plays the game, and not the random voices out there who make up a bunch of b/s to get you to view their video on TH-cam, or read their article... all actions which generate them more money.

Bro... I bought a game package and extra ship in 2015... haven't played for 4 years... the game is so much more now (November 2022). Amazing video and does the game justice even tho it was 2 years ago. Well done. People need to know about this game. It's amazing.
