Please forget about political dialogues and commitment. But being a Bengali software engineer I would say the smart city New Town is an absolutely gem of Bengal where the investors will get every kind of infrastructure and facilities to set up their business unit and offices. I worked there in a reputed software company for the past 8 years. The streets and communication within the other parts of the city is very smooth. The biggest advantage is that the Kolkata IT sector belt is much closer to the Netaji Subhash International Airport. Hardly it would take 40 mins to reach from the New Town / Salt Lake sec v area.Overall the city is absolutely vibrant for business and investment.
Can you tell me what is cost of living in Kolkata for couples?
If you guys are a working couple then you can easily afford it in KOLKATA, if one of you is working then you might have to cut down the cost of living but can afford it. What I believe is that KOLKATA's cost of living is a little bit lesser than Mumbai, Gurgaon or Bengaluru. But it still depends on the places or locality where you will opt to stay.

That’s ok but IT industries are going away from the state and no big openings happened in past few years. Governments anti SEZ policy and too costly price for land for the MNCs preventing IT to grow here despite having a good talent pool. I am in IT since last 17 years and I can see how IT is shrinking in the state and talents going to south and now even in Noida and Gurgaon .

Very informative video, I am working in Gurgaon for last 13 years now, but when I visited Newtown, I just got star strucked . I have not seen such well planned and beautiful city anywhere in india. I was so impressed that I invested in an underconstruction residential project myself. More than 50L .
There is something magical happening in newtown. It's seems like an European city with Bengali touch of culture and sofistication.

Working in an IT MNC at Kolkata.... would like to say that IT/ITeS can offer maximum employment in minimum land premises, land acquisition is very small compared to auto/mechanical industry. However we need the SEZ status. Gurgaon which started later than us... have overtaken us in IT office space.

I dont know why Kolkata metro city is not expanding like Delhi NCR and Mumbai-Navi Mumbai, Bangalore. Kolkata deserves a place like Delhi and Mumbai. Kolkata city can be develop and build like Bangkok, Singapore, and Hong Kong. This city badly needs an expansion including Greater Kolkata metropolitan region. Even UP CM Yogi has planned to develop Lucknow city like Lucknow SCR or state capital region including Kanpore and its neighbourhood villages encroachment.

New Town doesn't have any metro or any rail link.....so the condition of public transports are at it's worst..... with more people living there day by day, more upcoming offices and hospitals and colleges, there are absolutely no breathing space in the public transports, it's absolutely a horror to board a bus in New Town.... Metro work is going on since forever and looks nowhere near end

Totally agree with you bro. I saw Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Jakarta, Manilla, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala lumpur, Phnom Penh, Vientiane, Ho Chi Minh city, Yangon. Taipei etc. Their footpaths are wide and low in height with grey marvel or rock or stone or tiles whatever. Their road dividers are lower in height and full of greeneries and tree plantations. Modern design of street lights and traffic lights. Lots of gardens, landscapes and quite flat pavements. No political parties posters. Litter-bins are everywhere. People use subways, footbridges and sky walk for walking purpose. No red paint or stain of beetle leaf beetle nuts juices or any tobacco products. No trash on roads or streets or lanes or gardens. No leaflet or posters sticked on any building. Not much noisy. No unnecessary honking. Low air and sound pollution. Mostly dividers are painted either black and white or a few are red and white not much black and yellow stripes. Which makes those cities look like a beautiful world-class international city. Which is clean and green.
And these things are missing in Indian metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Surat, Kochi, Trivandrum, Chandigarh, Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Patna, Agra, Kanpur, Bhopal, Indore, Bhuveneswar, Nagpur, Guwahati, Greater Noida, Navi Mumbai, Dholera, Gift city, Vizag etc. No matter how much infrastructure Indian government develops Indian metro cities will never look like a world-class international city.
A country does not develop just by building tall skyscrapers. It depends on many things. Thats why Indian metro cities are far behind South East and East Asian cities and other Western European, North American, and Oceanian cities.

Yah I have also come to know about many of these facts. What I have understood is that leftist government of CPM have caused a huge backlog of Bengal. Current government is trying to overcome the previous mistakes a lot. But then also there is a problem about the bribes they take. Otherwise they are planning everything well enough. The Bengal Silicon Valley Hub is going to create a milestone development. World Trade Centre of America has also signed MOU with West Bengal and are developing the World Trade Centre there which will make business easier. The Fintech Hub is also developing which will have the headquarters of many banks including Bandhan Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, UCO Bank and others. Apart from these areas Medinipur, Kharagpur, Salboni, Durgapur, Asansol and Siliguri areas are also being industrially developed a lot. Haldia and Tajpur are getting huge investments. We all Indians hope that Bengal once again comes to the forefront and show the path of development to all of India as it has done earlier. Gopal Krishna Gokhle had said earlier and PM Narendra Modi also told the same that "We have to revive the fact which was earlier said-- What Bengal Thinks Today India Thinks Tomorrow". Jai Hind

Kolkata's infra is unmatched when compared to other big cities be it water, electricity, street lights, roads and connectivity etc. Sooner of later companies had to realize coz propaganda against Bengal wouldn't last long anyway. We the people of Bengal should spread this positivity and do the right PR and change the perception without being driven by politics and agenda. I have stayed in Bangalore and Gurgaon and I know how much better is Kolkata in terms of infrastructure and basic amenities, they just lack marketing and PR hype like other states.

Ya it's good to see...I am one of them who works in a MNC company in Newtown. Really it looks good..Job opportunity is growing in Kolkata as well as in WB. But under all these good things there are various projects are running in these IT/ITES companies, that will just ruin your life..to be honest there is no work-life balance, good salary, good hikes.. Management of these kind of projects will just exploit you day by day..and these kind of projects are running in everywhere.This thing is not "Employment" it is "Slavery" ( ** I AM NOT SAYING THAT NOTHING IS GOOD**) obviously there are many projects have lot of facilities for their employees. Moral - Under this Modern IT/ITES hub there are many pathetic things happening because of they found cheap labour in Kolkata zone.

It's good to see but the development is slow and not sufficient. For example entire Bengal silicon hub is just 200 acres whereas some of the Infosys campuses in south India are close to 400 acres alone, also in Bengaluru such kind of hubs are spread out in all 4 directions. Infosys would have generated approximately 25,000 jobs had it got SEZ land, now it will generate only 1000 to 3000 jobs.

And those who now live in Kolkata and often try to show off their attitude through showing that Kolkata also has luxury cars and everyone also thinks and believes like omg kolkata is great and best city in India etc etc are no one except those and they believe and also spread to everyone that Kolkata is great etc etc to promote them.
Kolkata is currently the city of uselesses and nobody from other states (except the states like Bihar,Jharkhand... etc)wants to go and live in.
Kolkata was once upon the richest city of India and was of prime importance, and further it gave famous personalities like Satyajit Ray and many more artists, writers, poets,directors,whose numorous works are truly a gem.
Moreover,Netaji Subhashchandra Bose and many other freedom fighters were from Bengal only.
But the dark truth of Kolkata is that it is a dying city with the most dirtiest cities in India rankings along with the other cities like Howrah and the other ranked cities only in WB,except a few parts of its South,parts in and near CBD,and Newtown.Yes ofc., today one thing that Kolkata is known everywhere and still of pride,which is true in reality,is the famous Durga Puja,which appears to be new every time when it is held and attracts everyone ,bcoz nowhere happens such greatly festival.
And that is y,I,living in Mumbai,but being originally from Kolkata come in Kolkata during those days of festivals.
Ahmedabad is also better than Kolkata
