      He should have won 1 world title at least in that era. White beats Griffiths and Knowles best of 25+ comfortably, and doesn't trail Davis 12-4 in a world championship final if fully focused. But sadly he wasn't fully focused in the tournament that mattered most it cost him very dearly.
      How can you beat Davis 12-6 on day 2 of one world championship final and then lead Hendry 14-8 over 2.75 sessions of another and still not be the world champion?
      It's very sad that Ebdon was world champion but White wasn't.

      If the types of final frames were reversed in 1994 and 2002 and Hendry had any control over them, White probably would have been world champion in 1994 and Hendry the world champion in 2002. Remember it was only 1 frame in it in 2002. Hendry was rsther flat in first 4 frames vs Ebdon after 2 big wins over Doherty in the quarter finals and getting himself extra psyched up for the semi finals with O'Suliivan, but it still went to a decider and if everything had not got so awkward very early (nothing even he could do about it, it does sometimes happen even in frames involving Hendry) in the decider I think it would have went Hendry's way.
      The type of final frame in 2002 suited Ebdon rather then Hendry or White that after he made his 40 something it proved to be a very useful lead, with all the reds awkwardly situated, big colours out of commission there wasn't a counter winning break for Hendry to punish Ebdon the way he punished White in 1994. Had that type of frame happened in 1994 White would built up a useful lead probably would have been enough for White with more guaranted visits to the table instead of that being his last visit. But in 1994 when all the reds out in the open when White missed the black Hendry was alwsys going to punish White severely for it. Had that type of final frame happened in 2002 instead of that 40 odd from Ebdon, Ebdon would not have had such a useful lead as Hendry even not on top form he would still probably scored enough to punish Ebdon with the counter break even if he wouldn't have totally cleared the table.

      @ian williamson no alex was on another level ian. Alex saftey play was much better and all round play, he was a better tactical player. But he was past his best here. All true natural genius players have got the bottle to see it through when it really matters. Jimmy didnt have that. If jimmy played in 12 world finals he still wouldnt have won. He crumbled at the last hurdle. I believe the word genius gets used far to much in sport, but alex was one of them. Like george best, muhammed ali, alex higgins played his best when up against the best and with his back to the wall. Just like best and ali. Jimmy couldnt do that.

      White would probably have won one in the 1970's where players didn't have to be as dedicated as in the 1980's. Maybe in 1982 as well where Davis the first totally dedicated player got knocked out in first round certainly boosted White's hopes significantly.
      In 1982 it was either one or the other who made the final. Higgins won 1982 but White could have won had be beaten Higgins in semi. No guarantee he would have beaten Reardon. Reardon was 15-15 with Higgins after all so no guarantee that White would have beaten Reardon

    • @dvidclapperton
      @dvidclapperton ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also did Higgins cost White a World championships?
      And I don't mean just their world semi final meeting in 1982.
      Some of the 'alcohol induced?' losses White suffered over best of 25+ in the 1980's were astounding vs Knowles and Griffiths. White also outplayed Davis 12-6 on day 2 in 1984 world championship final 'once the effect from alcohol from the all night bender had finally worn off to allow White to be able to focus properly?', but still he couldn't win the world title as he left himself far too much to do 4-12 after day 1.
      Going on those all night benders with Higgins who was White's mentor must have cost White very dearly. Did Higgins think that White would still make the world final even drinking 15+ pints of beer badly affecting his focus against Knowles and Griffiths in world qusrter finals and world semi finals? Fully focused White doesn't lose to Knowles and Griffiths in a best of 25 or a best of 31.
      Higgins obviously believed in White's ability to win the world title (he clearly had the tslent and all the tools to be world champion. He was far more than just good enough to be world champion.) so much that he thought White could do so even staggering around the table and struggling to avoid falling over for a day or 2 against fully focused opponents on the way to the final. But that was just crazy.

All ANY flamboyant snooker player is doing (though some may be better at it nowadays and more prolific winners.) is immitating Higgins.
