One towards the surface pointed up to help with water surface movement and another on the opposite side low pointing down to help blow debris toward the filter. my water stays crystal clear. I struggle with the over feeding especially with my African cichlids. They will eat till they explode! Lol I do skip feeding them a day a week as you said it helps.

and another reason that l just went through on an established tank was the plastic flower pot that had no more plants in but still had the fertilizer enriched material in it . . took me several days and several water changes till i eventually stumbled across the problem . but not even 12 hrs after removing the pot my water is almost 100% free of the bacterial bloom and is very much back on track to being crystal clear

OK, I am really frustrated. I have had a 40 gallon tank for years and it has become cloudy. I started doing more regular water changes, took care of an algae bloom added a wave maker with a built in carbon filter and I have a hang on filter. I watched this video and you spoke about poly fill. I honestly don't know how to use it so I got on Amazon. I ended up on a Filter First pad that is supposed to help. You cut and fit the pad to fit my hang on the back filter. I added it with the already included carbon filter. That makes the water flow area tight and I am not sure there is enough water flow. Should I use the filter first pad instead of the carbon? I also looked into the Chemi pure blue and it seems to come in a bag. How do I add that to a hang on the back filter? I have four fish that have been in the 40 gallon tank. I also have live plants. If I add any new fish, they are dead by morning. I use Prime to remove the chlorine and stuff. I have also used algae fix for the algae, stress coat during water changes and even quick start recently to see if it would help. All the water tests show everything in the appropriate range. I am ready to give up. Please help. Ill pay for the consultation if necessary. The tank is in my office and patients have been commenting on how cloudy it is.

Honestly the easy way is just to use carbon. A lot of freshwater people are against it but in the saltwater side of the hobby it’s widely used to keep water crystal clear and blue not yellow. I didn’t use carbon at first on my Cichlid tank or planted tank and began using it. The difference is clear. A lot of freshwater people do not like to spend more than they have to. But saltwater people already spend much so paying for carbon is nothing. Doing constant water changes is too much work. With carbon I now can leave the tank for two weeks without changing the water on my 180G oscar tank. Before I did a water change every week and water was always yellow, crystal clear, but yellow.

About a month ago I excessively disturbed the gravel when I re-buried air hoses - and I think that plus over feeding made the cloudy water, and its still cloudy after several water changes and filter cleanings and much less feeding.
