Excellent video! My only concern is that some people unfamiliar with applied wing chun will not understand that the techniques you were demonstrating at the end of the video were in "drill" format as opposed to full sparring or fighting application. I don't know why but a lot of people struggle with understanding the importance of doing drills for building good habits and reflexes and will automatically resort to saying something like "what you are doing wouldn't work in a real fight" which completely misses the point. I'm hopeful that you can help clear this up for those types. Thanks for sharing!
Your point of view is right , it’s very common mistake for traditional chinese martial arts beginners . Bruce Lee pointed it out in early 60s. Real fight is quick and unpredictable .
I have a question about the double Gaan Sao at 7:31, as found in the Biu Jee form. First you seem to stay in the middle of both your opponents arms. You shift way more than 45 degrees and use both arms on one. Now I do understand this is a clearing motion used against people that change up their straight attacks with low or high punches, but from my understanding it is always used to go from the Gaan sao(top) side towards centre. You seem to go past centreline leaving you open for a cross. Why are you disgarding the concept of Chiu Ying(facing), intercepting/ attacking and blocking at the same time?
this is contemporary not traditional wing chun. Duncan family applied wing chun they free fight like boxers do and they dont block, they use the covers to onslaught the attacking arms and legs of the opponent. the "open spaces" work as bait, they know and they want the cross to come. every cover they do is combinations of attacks. for covers to work as cutting strikes need powerfull shifting and stepping. in 7 31 is not defence, is one two follow up counter attack with most powerfull shifting and stepping as peek a boo boxing.

Don't get me wrong there surely is power in his movement but these fixed sequences fall apart in sparring real soon. You cannot convince me you want to draw punches to your face only for you to kwa sau or gaan sao with both arms whilst standing still and rotating 90 degrees. If you do this on a feint or drawing attack you are screwed.
Principals are to be enslaved not to enslave. Styles and their names are not the defenders. Traditional robotic choreographies don't match contemporary tactics. This is not traditional Wing Chun. It is applied adapting to modern fighting. There is nothing to be convinced. There is no fight without brutal attacks coming from everywhere. The footwork and its crossed arms covers applied freely as boxing in the most offensive tactics.
Every art and lineage has its own unique principals for the artist to conquer. Yip man family shifts on the heels when Yeun Kay san family shifts on the Balls of the feet.. The endless Diversity, is the beauty of the world.

I've never heard of "covering" anywhere except for in Duncan Leung's lineage. But it's brilliant and effective.
