depending where you are in the country you might always have a machete. I'm from a rural area and always keep a machete handy as I often trek through the woods. As for the Greatswords and Warhammers...well those are just fun and I actually have had to pull a sword on someone..the look on their face was priceless.
So I've been reading Garcia Marquez and now I'm a little obsessed wanting to learn more about how life was back then in those rural towns so that inspired me to talk to my dad and learn more about his childhood in the 60s and 70s when he was growing up in Honduras in his pueblo and definitely the most interesting and scary stories he tells me are of the hardened, cold blooded men who would always carry a machete and at any given moment, once the alcohol had been exceeded and any slight or joke was ill taken, in a mad attempt to prove their macho worth, they would pull out their machetes and just start fighting right there in front of everyone and no one dared intervene. If those men fought anything like this presentation, then I understand why they wouldn't interfere would just hope the fight ended with no one dead, though that wasn't most of the time the case. This video is so cool, tough. It gives me a clearer picture.
You should watch "esgrima colombiana con machete" videos. Closer to your literary references and more dance-like, even though you can sometimes infer the influence of European style fencing
there is actually footage of a guy trying to rob a convince store in Florida with a machete and the clerk pulls out a BIGGER machete so don't be surprised it happens more than you think. Also... if you own a machete whats wrong with learning how to use it for self defense
It's not the weapon, it's the motions. You can translate this to any one handed weapon or improvised weapon practically. And if you were "serious" you'd understand that hand to hand combat isn't such an impossible situation.
I have friends that spend time traveling in many 3rd World countries where firearms are strictly prohibited but just about everyone on the street has a machete slung across his back. Something like this would be very useful for them and anyone else travelling to one of those 'exotic' locales! It would also make you better at other martial arts, knife fighting for example.
you know, like when you are a kid and you play sword fight with your friends and stuff with tree branches and litters on the street. Well, some people never really grew out of that, and I present you csknives peeps. Seems like a pretty fun hobby I would say.
Hate to break it to you mate, but there are dozens of machete styles from all over the world. I've seen 12 inch machetes, and I've seen machetes of 28 inches...there isn't just "one" machete. Hell, check out machetespecialists (dotcom) to see a wide variety of styles.
Ok, let me understand, in America do you use machete, greatswords and warhammers to defend yourself against people? I mean, what do a person thinks if sees you walking with a machete?
I've done some of these same techniques in a self defense class, the only difference was we were using batons and training knives. the motions are the same which i realized when i bought my kukri machete
That's a bad problem... I'm a student from Italy, i study in a school to become a chef and i'm really curious to see what happens in the other countries. You know, here is the normality eat healty food. McDonalds is considered trash, all seek to avoid it. But, have you ever tried to think about what kinds of drinks you drink? Most of the time you drink shitty drinks full of sugar like, coca cola, sprite ecc... Maybe the obesity problem comes out precisely also for that motivation.
Look up the Smatchet techniques from William Fairbairn's _ Get Tough!_, they are not weapon specific. One combination Fairbairn taught commandos (not in GT) is very simple, very brutal, and very, VERY effective, From the crossdraw carry on your left hip, draw out your big blade in a fencing high prime (angle #6 in FMA) using it as a parry, or better, a counter slash to the enemy's incoming right-hand attack. Flip the blade over (wrist moulinet) into a diagonal right to left slash (FMA #1) across the neck and collarbone, preferably STOMPING into close range. Recover into a left to right slash (FMA #2) completing the X-double strike, still driving forward. Finish off with a full thrust to the abdomen even if you have a "Latin" pattern point.
A salad at a fast food place may run you $4-$6 while a burger and fries may run you $1.99. I personally don't eat fast food. I grow most of my food so I save a bit of money, and my meat usually comes from Hunting, if i've had a good year, but I do have a bit of a weight problem. Stemming from depression and coupled with a foot condition that minimizes my physical activity..but I'm working on it
unfortunately my friend you are not far off. Obesity is a major concern here in the states, but not all of it is laziness and lack of will power. Many have jobs that demand most of their time, including meal time so quick snacks or fast food are the norm. Plus more and more of those are office Jobs where they sit for hours at a time. then the foods not packed with preservatives are out of the average family's price range. But there are those that do their best to keep in shape and train in
Have any of you guys ever considered learning eskrima. I know you do martial arts so i was just wondering if you ever had any experience with it or wanted to try it. It uses padded medal rods but 90% of the techniques can me translated to other similar shaped weapons.
The problem is there is no one factor. Some have no willpower, some are depressed and their outlet is food, some do have genetic disorders. And drinks are a big problem as well. Personally, I drink water 95% of the time. I'm Southern so I indulge in a sweet tea or coke when I'm out with friends. But then you have men Like Lynn up there who (no disrespect) is on the heavy side, yet moves faster than many men half his size. It's all in the activities. But like i said, price is a big issue..
but yes I carry a machete to defend myself at times. My throwing knives. My throwing tomahawk. My large tanto. I make my own sheaths / scabbards. I carry many of the above on just ordinary trips. I am a geeky, loving, funny person, yet everyone wonders, why?? do you carry those?? Let me sum it all up balubauba. Those people who stare or call names, or are scared of those who carry weapons, THEY WANT TO CONTROL YOU, and they are PISSED they cannot. I mean, THEY REALLY WANT TO CONTROL YOU.
Cool video! How about is fighting 2 machetes in both hands?? That makes better balance, better protection, faster hits ^_^ CS Machetes is good for self defense ^_^ Personal favourite CS Machetes r CS Latin Machete 18" ^_^
Hahaha hem okay! In that case you right. You know, Americans in this times are considered like fat persons eating every day at McDonalds, owning miniguns and every other kind of weapon that get around with scooter mobility. I really hope the opposite!
in America, I don't care what anyone thinks. I carry what I need, when I need, why I need. That is none of anyone's fucking business. As long as I am not a threat to myself, life, or property, I live by GOD's laws the best I possibly can. To answer your question now, here in USA, everybody is in everybodys business. People call the police 3-5 times a day for any or no reason at all. If you don't live EXACTLY as they want you to, you are looked at as terrorist, crazy, etc. ... -->

I am from the philippines, there the machete was both a tool and a weapon for hundreds of years . they were very decorative and usefull

I have a titanium one but ime scared that it will shattervon the first true full force strike

yeah, samurai sword, awesome !
@@thename535 and they are fragile
The only readily available weapon left (along with the cane) in the West today.
That's because it's technically a tool like an axe.
And just like an axe, it can be very deadly if used at least somewhat competently.

Great presentation.
0:28 Concept very similar to Hans Talhoffer's concept.
wow sir cool video, seems legit there is a lot of good working things there,

Ok, let me understand, in America do you use machete, greatswords and warhammers to defend yourself against people? I mean, what do a person thinks if sees you walking with a machete?

This is Kali, Arnis or Escrima right? I am an escrimador and a lot of this looks very familiar
kali is great. Sayoc, arnis, escrima!!! Stick with it. Most realistic art around IMO. Take care, best wishes to you Connor
Could you guys make an expandable baton fighting vid?
all forms of combat, gun, unarmed and melee. as the saying goes "I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it"
you guys should offer machete trainers for ALL your machetes!
I've always wondered how good are you guys at empty handed fighting??0.o
So I know they pay you to talk nice about cold steel and whatnot, but if Lynn trains so often, what accounts for his being overweight?
i feel bad for the person who underestimates lynn and picks a fight with him..although larger he still whoops some serious ass! go lynn!
I want to see Lynn Thompson vs. Earnest Emerson!
The guy with the shorts is so Extreme i swear I watched this video more than 10 times I was holding my chair tightly to much extremes for one day....
Lynn's pretty much an all around badass
This is good to know....be cuz I got a big machete fight tomorrow tonight ! 🤣
Yes Officer Anthony, whatever you say. You have a good night sir, and be safe.

Is this real
They should make a synthetic nylon machete practice sparring sword.

Those guys are all students of Guro Dan Inosanto. One of them, Ron Balicki, is his son in law.
alsatian9130 is the nice guy. It is the person the tactical pen, taser, and belt knife that worry me.
he doesn't, but unless you are using real machete, I don't think you do either.
for sure!!!!

Being from mexico does not make you a machete expert, alien-destroying laser-jesus.
Neat video!
You risk cutting your hand off with that move at 0:28.
looking sharp. You look like you can hold your own!! Stay safe. Stay healthy. GOD of Israel bless Cold Steel.
