No, it's true. The first game was great & very well received, but then they started listening to trends & focus grouping and those people said turn-based tactical stuff would not sell (that's the actual lie), so they made it increasingly actiony.

@@proteuswest1084 There needs to be a balance. Seems like DAV will have progression type of gear. You loot "Leather armour" that, when looting it again, will transform into "Big Legendary Sacred bla-bla-bla Leather armour". Which CAN be fine. However, it requires devs to make really lots of those armor packs, as well as gear and trinkets. Promlems: 1) The progression is set in stone. You pick and wear only the stuff you are allowed to wear. 2) Second runs won't be as exciting as before, due to you knowing what you will get. I like DOS2 system, where there are unique items that are set in stone + proc gen items with random stats. You never know what you will get, however some places have a very specific loot that you might looking for.
Yea.. not really seeing what I would want from a Dragon Age game in this. Too much twitchy action, not enough strategy/tactics, no real freedom in the world if you're stuck to predetermined rails to ensure you encounter specific stuff along the way. I also suspect it isn't going to be much of a RPG at all, which means large parts of it could end up simply being RPG-coloured busywork as opposed to something with a reason to exist.
Some people certainly are. It’s hard to be critical when the company flies you out to California for special access. Why not just give out game codes for review a week or 2 before launch?
@GrandAngel8000 The people with early access were. I thought that’s who we were talking about. People are certainly free to like or hate the game based on their own criteria. But when you get a free trip and special access, you are receiving compensation.
The review is actually very brutally honest. Even using positive term, you are calling out the bad elements like the set dressings. The mage gameplay underwhelmingness also
Origins were perfect at that time. Then there is failure. Inquisition took some time to fix and then it got great, but little too late. Its hard to tell how great will Veilguard be as Baldures Gate 3 had all we wanted after Origins. Seems 7+ out of 10
Ahh, it looks like very polished shallow puddle. WHYYYY dumb it down so much, we have tons of action games. This is just too detached from series start, not to mention how races are designed, like all of them have human face glued on. Noticed objectives here, looks like going back and forward just as an excuse for lots of combat. We'll see... I might be positively shocked.
How can you say 'Dragon Age is back' when The Veilguard completely changes the tone, visual style, and gameplay? This isn't bringing back what fans loved-it's a reimagining. If you enjoy it, that's fair, but don't pretend it's the same experience as before. It's misleading to claim something is 'back' when it hardly resembles what made it iconic in the first place Changing the combat from a tactical, party-based system (like Baldur's Gate 2 in Origins) to something closer to God of War or Trials of Mana is a complete shift. The high fantasy visuals-with their polished, colorful look, and lack of blood, grit, or dark fantasy elements-don't feel true to what Dragon Age was. Even the Qunari look like pretty boys now! Plus, removing party control and focusing on a single character is another blow to the series' identity. How can Dragon Age be 'back' when it seems like a totally different game?
Totally different game compared to what? DA 1, 2 or inquisition? Because they're all bloody different from each other. The series always had an identity crisis, your comment makes no sense at all
@@gabrigamer00skyrimIdentity crisis is when a CRPG game iterates on gameplay but stays a CRPG. Confidence is when said CRPG abandons everything it was known for to be a mid action game.
@@gabrigamer00skyrim I get where you're coming from, but the first game in the series, Dragon Age: Origins, is widely considered the gold standard for Dragon Age by both critics and fans, and it established the core lore, tone, and gameplay that defined the franchise. Origins fans are still the majority among the Dragon Age fanbase, and its tactical, party-based combat and dark fantasy world are what many people fell in love with. We also know this fanbase is large because of the support behind Baldur's Gate 3 as well. While Inquisition has its fans, it was a polarizing entry that already started to move away from what made Origins special, which is why it had a mixed reception among longtime fans. What frustrates me about The Veilguard is that it's moving even further away from the consistent identity that Origins and DA2 had. It's not just another evolution like Inquisition-it's a complete departure in terms of gameplay, visual style, and tone. The user scores on Metacritic make it pretty clear too-Origins is not just the highest-rated by critics but also by the player base. If you're going to build a new Dragon Age, it makes sense to listen to that feedback. Inquisition may have been praised by critics, but the user score is much lower, showing that long-time fans didn’t connect with it as much. Origins's 8.4 user score compared to Inquisition’s 6.1 really shows where the majority of the fanbase stands. So when I say it doesn't feel like Dragon Age is 'back,' I'm talking about it straying from the foundation that made the series iconic. Changing the core gameplay and aesthetic that defined the first game doesn’t feel like a continuation of the franchise.
It has the same writing, themes, and companion relationships that are at the core of Dragon Age. That's why Dragon Age is absolutely back. "lack of blood, grit or dark fantasy" lol now you're just lying.
Some challenges left distribution of potions and spirit healers, mages with just three spells mages are like bag of tricks but in this mainly fighting like an agile rogue, how often character has to do evading and parrying fighting like a bat man seems tedious in this very long story either way I would think writing might save this like usual
No, Bioware is NOT back. As a huge Dragon Age fan, I don't know what the heII this game is, but it is NOT Dragon Age. The character creator is an absolutely JOKE! The game play looks silly and uninteresting. I have no doubt the story is going to be just as awful. This game is a HARD PASS for me.

It kind of sounds like you're in denial and trying to convince yourself the game has improved upon past systems by saying mechanics have been "streamlined" when actually it takes away a ton of freedom. With the game already looking incredibly linear with no open areas to explore, the last thing they should have done is dumb down the loot system. Having various outfits with different looks and effects to switch between whenever we want is a huge part of the fun in RPGs. Don't take away my inventory "clutter". It's precious :/

DAO had it right the first time the story was solid, its world was immersive, its characters were memorable, the atmosphere was great, a modern successor to games like Baldurs Gate and a beloved classic that will go down as one of the greatest rpgs of all time, unlike its sequels .
No, it's true. The first game was great & very well received, but then they started listening to trends & focus grouping and those people said turn-based tactical stuff would not sell (that's the actual lie), so they made it increasingly actiony.
I absolutely hate the art style. That polished skin look is best for Pixar movies, not this game setting. Awful!
Would really like to see a preview from someone who actually loved the tactical combat of the originals. I don't understand how "its a streamlined RPG like mass effect" is a good thing...
Considering the "meaningless quest" bloat from 1, 2, and especially 3 were a common complaint, a more focused experience is probably a welcome change.
WolfheartFPS is highly critical of the UI, damage numbers, projectile arrows and aoe circles that dominate the screen and gave a very fair review imo. He prefers cRPGs and is the only person I've seen so far to be critical of the playtest, he did still conclude that the story felt good and he was reassured that it's a game he'll enjoy despite the changes.
@@AngryCosmonautwhat meaningless quest bloat in DAO? That was very much an Inquisition problem tho I agree

Which CAN be fine. However, it requires devs to make really lots of those armor packs, as well as gear and trinkets.

Yea.. not really seeing what I would want from a Dragon Age game in this.
How dare you be positive about a game you're excited for!?

Why is it looking like it's made for a mobile???
This looks absolutely horrendous
the only thing bioware is back for is another beating.
Strike three and they are out.
How can you say 'Dragon Age is back' when The Veilguard completely changes the tone, visual style, and gameplay? This isn't bringing back what fans loved-it's a reimagining. If you enjoy it, that's fair, but don't pretend it's the same experience as before. It's misleading to claim something is 'back' when it hardly resembles what made it iconic in the first place
Changing the combat from a tactical, party-based system (like Baldur's Gate 2 in Origins) to something closer to God of War or Trials of Mana is a complete shift.
It would be more appropriate to say something like:
"Dragon Age is the new God of War"
