Yes you should stay in control. The bo will only come out your hand if not holding it correctly.

Hi, what type of wood is the bo you are using in this video made from?
I'm not 100% sure as I didn't buy it. It was given to me by my Sensei at the time as he got a new one. It's very heavy and extremely hard.
It looks like oak. In any case, it certainly looks harder and heavier that rattan.
