    For the past 4 years I've flown into Chiang Mai,taken a couple of days to get over the jet lag,and then rented a big bike and wandered around northern Thailand,Cambodia, and Lao. I'm 68 and will do it as long as I can and for as long as someone will rent me a bike. The people, scenery, and food are amazing. I've made a number of friends and they insist I stay with them everytime I'm in country. Many of them ride and they've taken me places I would never have found on my own.

    Firstly I love watching your video reviews. I'm from Australia and I hadn't ridden a bike on the road for about 35 years. In 2017 I took a trip to Phuket where I hired a scooter to travel around. Getting used to the controlled mayhem of the traffic was quite a task but I eventually got used to it. I have been back to Phuket each year since and just love riding the scooter everywhere. I have since bought myself a bike back home and am a regular rider again. I'm planning a "Thailand Tour" next year up in Chiang Mai on Royal Enfield Interceptors. Watching this video has made me eager to get back there. It is a special place and the people are just wonderful. Thanks for sharing your videos to the world. Cheers John

    Heading out to Krabi on this coming weekend for two weeks. Know those roads and will be doing a tour over to Phuket (bike service) then up to Khao Lak, national parks towards the Myanmar border then the back hilly roads to Ao Nang. It was great fun on the hire scooter but I had to push up steep hills, especially since I had a pillion! 300cc is great fun and surprises drivers at the lights since it looks look a fairly typical not so fast scooter.

Now its already 2021, the boarder is still not open 😂. Current bike Speed Twin after I sold off the GSA 1200 but for solo trip I use 125cc. If I got tired I can always throw in in the train. you mentioned scuffing in your tires in the first minute of your video.
    I myself have never experienced tires sliding around when they were brand new. In fact, I rode raced motorcycles, production bikes which meant I had to use DOT approved street bike tires with tread. I had two sets of wheels, one with a fresh set of sticker tires if it looked like it was going to rain. Over eight years, many times it would be raining the 2nd day of a 2 day event, meaning, qualifying in practice was Saturday, Sunday, no practice, that was the day where they ran the final race… no time for scuff in
    there were two times when it would rain right after lunch before my final, I saw the storm coming, I changed wheels quickly, and with brand new sticker tires, right out there go lineup. You got one lap in the rain to scuff your tires in.
    my point is, those tires were hooked up in the rain, I didn’t feel any excess movement. Your bike is always going to wiggle around in the rain, I don’t care what tires you are using, but I never felt any excess slippage with brand new sticker tires that were not scuffed in.
    was I going fast? I think so, I won four championships and I was national champion two times. As for going fast, I tried to just go a little faster than the guy in second..
    so don’t believe that myth about scuffing in brand new tires for 100 miles. One time over on the left, one time over on the right seems to be enough..
    just look how much faster NASCAR or even Formula One cars can go on brand new unscuffed tires. That’s when they are their fastest..They are slippery until they come up to temperature, there’s no mention of scuffing

    So, I've been living in Thailand for just over 3 years but I'm at the top end in Chiang Mai. From a biker point of view, this area is a couple of levels above the south. It is all mountains here, basically the foothills of the Himalayas. I wasn't a biker before I came here, but I absolutely love touring around North Thailand. If you ever get the chance to come back, get yourself up this way, you will love it. I'm assuming you came in November as the festival you were referring to sounded like Loy Krathong.

    • @TheMissendenFlyer

      Correct this was filmed last November - and Paul (our host)said that all the comments would say "ride in the North its better" and so far he was right....although it has to be said the south wasn't too shabby!!

    • @IanWheldale
      @IanWheldale 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheMissendenFlyer Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the south. All Thailand is brilliant in my book. I'm intending to do a tour at some point from my place all the way to Krabi and back. I need to sort it soon before my ageing, creaky bones decide it's not a good idea.

    • @paulrichards4541

      Because everybody believes the North is so much better, they completely fail to explore the South.
      Does the North have beaches? Does the North have anything to compare with the Thale Noi?
      Have they travelled to the wild country and mountains in Betong? Have they explored the myriad of temples between Songkhla and Nahkon Si Thamarat? No. The North is great, different from the South, but both deserve a visit.
