Dont believe for a second they are all skilled workers, im a locksmith of 15 years exp, we took on a pommie with similar years experience in the UK, honestly he couldn't do anything My 2nd year is doing. Government needs to realise these people are skilled in their OWN code of conduct in their country.
    Side note, watch this space
The pendulum is fastly swinging back the opposite way.
In the 80's you had early school leavers getting into the trades. Causing influx of trades.
These days people are going to uni.. there for starting their income wealth building until their mid to late 20's ... not to mention the intake of student loans..
Now is a great time to be doing a trade as there is no one in it allowing the apprentice of today naming his own prices in the indeffanant days of the morrow. A wise man would tell his sons of this

Gen Z just need to check their attitudes as well. Lots of anecdotal stories that they don't finish their apprenticeships. Men talk rudely and the apprentices expect to be treated like a tradie with 10 years experience. No, you grab the broom and sweep the floor, it's not "beneath you".

I am 60, been a tradie my whole life. Construction is now a circus and definitely not worth it.

I don’t recommend going into the trades these days unfortunately it’s not very well respected and government and regulators snap declare skills shortages to import workers to drive down wages.
The only thing protecting plumbers and electricians higher wages are the trade unions but I wouldn’t count on that after what was just done to the CFMEU.

As a tradie I left the industry because of the pay system all on contract no perks just a flat rate to cover everything, I’ve made more money working at a school doing maintenance

Learn a trade but work at good workplaces. There's a lot of workplaces that take advantage of tradies. Even if the company goes bankrupt they'll try and take your tools!

This is really interesting to hear, especially given the hourly rate being charged by plumbers and electricians!!

The single biggest problem with building new homes is the price of land.
Working as a tradesman right now sucks ass.
Maybe invite some trades onto your program and hear it first hand unfiltered. They’ll tell you what you need to hear.

Just watched the clip again, (for the sakes of you tube robots i'll watch my words) look at immigration, where are they coming from, just go into at any Officeworks, 7/11, Coles, Woolly's, look at the staff, look at who works there, you don't need much training to do those jobs, also, clean and no heavy lifting, now talking about trades, go into Bunnings or any builders hardware store and see who the staff are, i look and look hard, the immigrants coming to Australia, especially from Asia do not do trades, do not get dirty, they employ other people to do the dirty work, this is Australia, we don't have that culture here, i feel this is the start of the slide downwards, give it 2 generations, this country will look like the country many left behind for a better life only to get the opposite, my family live in Europe, grocery prices are half of what they are here, fuel slightly higher, Australian imported beef is the same price there as it is here, the lucky country is running out of luck.

People are getting lazy. Every time I get a job offer the carrot is “you won’t be on the tools as much”.
I wanna be on the tools!

It is low pay but you get paid to learn instead of going on hex. Skilled labour really means cheap labour
