I like the TFP origin, I reall do. However, I actually prefer them both being working class labourers who were systematically opressed. Both of them go through the exact same journey and realise that they must overthrow the inherently corrupt government, but their opinions differ on how to go about it. The origins aren't THAT different but some of the minor changes really improve it for me.
Agree 100 %, by having Orion, and in turn the Autobots, start from a not as marginalized social class gives the nature of the conflict a deeper level, which has been only really explored in comics since most other pieces of Transformers fiction have to more or less uphold a black and white narrative (sometimes at the expense of one faction by making them either 100% right or 100% wrong)
Megatron: “Not bad for a librarian. You should’ve spend time more in the pits.” Optimus Prime: “And you should have spent more time in the library.” Fall of Cybertron is peak with that dialogue
There are pluses and minuses. I think the final 'definitive' origin (if there even can be such a thing at this point) will lean more in that direction but still bring in some of the new Transformers One twists. For example, I think TFO did a great job of living up to that 'more like Jack' example. And (while I think they took it a bit too far) I think an Optimus with a little bit of a misspent youth and some rebellion does a great job of explaining why he's such a great leader now. He's had more experience, knows how and where it's appropriate, and shows some intelligence. Being pure straightlaced from start to finish makes me think more of Ultra Magnus. OTOH, Transformers One, while doing a great job of showing how and why Meg's fell, made it too quick and a little too emotional. Megatron is best when he's as cunning as he's shown here, and he'd ask TFO Megatron "Okay, so why did you grant Sentinel the mercy of a quick death instead of either using him... or at least making him REALLY hurt?"
I enjoy both & I consider em kinda the same only in TFP Optimus is kinda more serious least that we see since we get no flashbacks to the Cybertron days
The way Starscream was terrified of him strongly hinted at that, but he rarely got to go on missions outside the finale of Darkness Rising. That changes soon.
My favorite moment from this will Always be Soundwave proving to be Megatron's most Loyal follower. The reveal that he's been at his side since Day One fully committed to his cause, from keeping Starscream from pulling his life support and Now Personal Manhandling (with help from Laserbeak) Airachnid denying her take over and further proving his Code of Silence, that Actions Speak Louder than Words And yeah What a Cliffhanger
This was the first time I was introduced to what is generally considered to be the standard origin of Optimus Prime. Which was part of why I was excited for Transformers One.
It’s crazy, you expect Megatron to betray them the entire episode, but it literally only happens after the deed they joined forces for was done and Optimus didn’t remember anything.

Soundwave is the best menace to society. I believe he was a gladiator with Megatron before the war, and he was the only bot who fought him and managed to bring the match to a draw. So yeah, very dangerous. I can't wait for you to see more of him.
It probably helps that Transformers One is recent, so the friendship between Orion Pax and D-16 is now lodged in most audience's memories. From what I gather Speed Metal seemed to be your least favorite episode because not much happened in it beyond the street racing. In that case, I can guarantee Season 2 will not disappoint. The war definitely picks up the pace from here on in.
I like how Transformers one got a lot of the inspiration of the story from the Transformers prime story that ratchet told like Optimus and Megatron being close friends and Optimus getting the Matrix from cybertron's core
I love how they did the backstory in this of Orion & Megatron the art style they chose was really cool & for me not knowing much on Transformers lore outside of the films and animations I’ve seen I’m interested to read some Transformers comics cause this was amazing & the story is just great it keeps evolving
If you're interested in TF comics, read the Skybound series (it's still ongoing, they're at issue 14). this series is so good that it actually outsold Batman, and other popular comic book titles. IDW has a ton of good stories too (btw Megatron's D-16 low caste miner bot origin is from the IDW comics, just like the caste system, and Sentinel being a corrupt puppet ruler) Tho in the iDW series Megatron and Orion weren't best friends, their friendship only lasted for a brief amount of time ( they're acquaintances at best). The D-16/Orion friendship was introduced by the Aligned continuity, but they have no comics.(they have several video games, which are very good, the WFC gmes) a series (you're watching it right now, TFP) and aton of books (I not recommend them, esp the third was so bad I could not finish it) Im personally don't like nor the G1 or G2 comics but could give them a try.
4:50 the slow-mo is meant to show that Optimus and Megatron moved in perfect sync with each other. It's further hinting at their previous history 5:48 Soundwave is really cool, and I think this is the first time we actually see him fight. He's one of those cons that normally stays inside the ship and does his job because no one else can quite do what he can, but he's perfectly willing to fight and get in the fray. In general though, i like how most villains are cool in some way in this show. like you hate them, but you also love to hate them
a great final episode for a show and this origin for Optimus and megatron here in prime is the one that many like and its pretty much the definitive orgin for them and it was good seeing Optimus and megatron fight side by side in this final arc and the way Optimus took down unicron was like in the 86 movie also that key card Optimus gave jack the key to vector sigma is important its pretty much in most continuity's the mind of Primus the creator of the transfromers and that corruption ratchet mentioned in cybertrons core was shown in the cybertron games witch are canon to this show to be because of Megatron and yes unicron is back in stasis for the moment he was defeated not destroyed he could come back and its the matrix of leadership what Optimus has
If you ever want to continue this journey, I would actually suggest watching Transformers Cyberverse over the 2015 Robots in Diguise. The show starts simple but actually goes deeper over seasons 2 and 3. I prefer that 3rd season over TFP's 3rd season.
Wait you hate TFP season 3 so do i. I dont know why people like this season the most people it has little to no character development aside from Ultra Mangus and WheelJack. And to mention Starscream and Ratchet were turned into idiots especially Ratchet turnig his back on Jack Miko and Raf in the season 2 finale just to stay on earth at the end of season 3.

I don't think that is true. When Orion/Optimus said Megatron's old name, Megatron the cunning warlord saw a chance and he took it. Megatron did not take Optimus with him because of empathy, or their past friendship. He took Optimus with him because he knew he could use Optimus' talents for the sake of the Decepticon cause,and for his own gain.

While you were starting your reactions to season 1, I was doing a rewatch of the show. It’s really one of my top favorite animated tv shows!! Definitely my 2nd favorite!! The Scooby Doo show you reacted to sometime ago is definetly my # 1 favorite animated show!! That show is so good!! I wish it went on for a little longer! I won’t say how to not spoil you but I’ll just say that Unicron does return eventually in a way and it’s pretty wild and cool!!

Excited for you to get into season two 🎉 Adding on after the part about Soundwave. His and Megatron's relationship is just too good in TFP. He's loyal to a fault and we know this, but here is where you learn that he is Megatron's best friend. He's been with him longer than anyone, even Orion/Optimus. It's not surprising that Starscream knew not to mess with him because he probably knows the history there. Airachnid didn't and that's why she just tried to seize control right in front of everyone. Starscream was always sneaky about it and even then, he was always looking over his shoulder for Soundwave. Airachnid learned the hard way that being second in command doesn't necessarily mean only it's Megatron that is above you in rank.
This was my go-to for how to do Orion Pax and Megatron's backstories for a long time. But TF One really made their version work just as well, if not better. It'd probably take a miniseries to delve into something like what Ratchet conveyed here.
Don't worry, Unicron will be back. Also the second season is better than the first one, and the third is better than the second one. :) I wish TFP made a better job of telling the backstory of Orion and Megatron. Wish they told about the Cybetronian caste/class system, how Megatron was right at first, being the voice of hope, and change util he was seduced by his thirst for power, and revenge.

Season two and three are definitely better, they incorporate the humans a bit more than season 1
